GUILTY VA - Lenny Harris, 53, robbed & murdered, Alexandria, 21 Sept 2011

  • #161
Weird, I woke up after having a dream we were back living in MD, and practicing our ride to the hospital (my first was born at Holy Cross in SS, and I still remember the exit off the beltway was 31A, because we went over the route so many times  ) and while on the beltway was saying if we keep going wed end up down where Lenny disappeared. When i woke up of course my thoughts immediately went to Lenny, thinking of the DC area so much with this case must have made me dream about it! I wonder if his car was found in northern PG county somewhere(tho I know SS is Montg. cty)?

I don't usually put stock in my dreams, but it was so vivid. And now I'm rambling and need a cup of coffee. Just had to check first and see if there was any news of Lenny :(

This probably is not related, but I thought I'd post it anyway, just in case. I personally think he's somewhere in PG County; Anne Arundel County is the next one over.

ETA: Nevermind - it's someone else... Prayers for this man's family as well as for Lenny's.

Police have identified the body found Sunday in Hanover as a man reported missing from Montgomery County last week. Police are investigating his death as a homicide.

:bump:

Still thinking of Lenny and wondering what happened/where he is. I don't want this to be a cold case...

Thinking of Lenny here too, especially as we approach the holidays. His family needs and deserves answers. :rose:

You read my mind Garden.

Thinking of you Lenny. You are on the minds of so many people! Thinking of your family and community as we approach the holidays.

Please please let today be the day you are found safe.

Last night I drove past the rec center where he was last seen, and they were having some sort of dinner/reception/meeting (from what I could tell through the windows as I drove past). I thought of Lenny... Where are you, Lenny?

Thinking of Lenny and his family this Thanksgiving. I know it must be a hard time.

Here's the latest info, which really isn't much - except the part about the posters (bbm):

Two Months Later, Few Updates in Search For Harris

....“It is frustrating,” said Meg Booth, a Del Ray neighbor of the Harris family. “I don’t know a lot about law enforcement and missing persons. [The police] found Lenny’s car. They did a canine search and a helicopter search of that area. It just seems the police may or may not have leads they are not telling us about.”
.......
Booth said someone who volunteered to tack up posters of Harris in hopes of generating information noticed a large number of the fliers were mysteriously taken down shortly after they were posted in one distinct area of Alexandria.

“It seems like there’s some info out there,” Booth said. “I think people start circulating [the photos] at work one more time, maybe we could get something.”

I hate seeing Lenny down on page 3, so giving him a bump back up to the top.

What a good article that is from patch.com. Every news item about Lenny has nothing but lists of the good works this man has done for others. Someone needs to step up and do something for HIM now, and tell what they know.

Thinking of you Lenny and your family, friends and community. Like Cubs said- let's see a Christmas miracle come true and let you be safe and sound.

I search the news daily. There is nada, as I'm sure all of you have found as well. And there is no talk whatsoever about him around town. It's almost as if it has been swept under the rug.

I am losing hope that his case will be solved. There is another case in mind that makes me think that. The sheriff's wife was murdered in her home on Dec 5, 2003. She was our realtor at one time. The case has never been solved, even though folks have their suspicions.

Despite being part of the DC metro area, Alexandria is quite small compared to Arlington, Fairfax County, Washington DC, Montgomery County MD, and Prince Georges County MD. For example, there's only one high school. I don't think the local LE is accustomed to solving major crimes/murders and it is a relatively small department. I also wonder if, being smaller, the power is held by a smaller set of folks and is more political. Make sense? Being local, I feel that I can say that, but it is only my opinion, after all.

I so wish they would solve this case.

I really, really hate when the media seems to go silent on these cases. I realize that they may have no hard new facts to report, if LE is being silent, but would it really kill them to devote a couple of paragraphs, or a minute or two of airtime, to keep the missing person's name in the news? Maybe a brief interview with family or friends, a recap of the circumstances, anything at all?

if I have time later I'm going to look through e initial media coverage and see if there is any one reporter who did more than one article on Lenny's case, and shoot them an email to ask if there's been any developments, or if they're planning to do any more stories. If I get a reply I will post the details here.

Meanwhile, I'll still be thinking of Lenny and his loved ones, along with all of you here.

Well that's strange, a lot of the original articles seem to have disappeared off the net? I'm getting 404 errors, and on the few that remain I can't find a reporter with more than one story.

I'll look more later...but wth? Poor Lenny. :(

Here's a local paper with two names that keep coming up on his articles - maybe this will help you find someone to e-mail:

Local TV news (DC) is reporting that two fisherman found a man's body in the river near Alexandria this morning (I think they said near the GW Parkway). ME is searching for a COD as there was no obvious source of trauma. No word on an ID at all, but I couldn't help but think of Lenny.

Where are you, Lenny? I think of you every time I cross the WW Bridge on the way to/from work, or pass the Charles Houston Rec Center.
