Byrne’s father, 79-year-old Leonard Thompson, was last seen Monday night.

He was caught on surveillance footage getting gas at the Exxon station on Pacific Boulevard (Sterling) around 8:39 p.m.

Before that, he attended a funeral and had dinner with friends.

His car was discovered early Tuesday morning, around 3:30 a.m., on Interstate 81, outside of Roanoke. Byrne said his car was left parked in the right lane, not the shoulder, with a flat tire.

“He wasn’t in it, his keys were gone, and no one has seen him since,” she said.

DC News video shows him on video at Exxon station. His daughter says he would have had no reason to be in the Roanoke area which is around 200 miles from his home.

"We know nobody in Roanoke, Virginia, and he's not the type of person to drive at night, nor to drive long distances. He generally doesn't usually leave his house after eight o'clock.” said Byrne.

Byrne said her father, who is a diabetic and on medication, may have gotten confused or lost when he went to get gas.

*****
“He's got a bad ankle, so he couldn't have walked far,” said Byrne.

Thompson may have gotten into a car with a trucker and could be states away, said Byrne.

“We're running out of time. He's elderly, he doesn't have access to his meds. And you know, time is of the essence in these cases,” said Byrne.
