It’s a sad fact that these familial homicides are so commonplace nowadays.

That is a horrible name for a child. I am interested in hearing the whole story. What a shocking experience for the family and loved ones. Why did he have to take his little brother too? So sad :/

Just saw this -- another article re his capture -- from WaPo.
I must say that this headline desperately needs a comma -- between the words "brother" and "is" :eek:. (I just couldn't resist -- the English language is being slowly savaged. Anyway, back to topic...

A 17-year-old from Virginia was captured in North Carolina on Saturday evening and charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of his mother and 6-year-old brother inside their Fauquier County home Friday evening.

Levi H. Norwood, a junior at Liberty High School, was arrested by police after being accused of shoplifting about 5 p.m., authorities said. Fauquier sheriff’s deputies headed to North Carolina on Saturday night in hopes of interviewing Norwood, and the department scheduled a Sunday afternoon press conference about the case.

"Levi" is a popular boy's name. Matthew McConaughey and Sheryl Crow both have sons named Levi. It is #51 in popularity for boys in the U.S.

I'm sorry; I don't get why Levi is a horrible name for a child. Is there some connotation to evil with this name that I am not aware of? I recently worked for a doctor who named his child that, and in fact, Levi was a family name, from the wife's side, and related to the extremely wealthy jean company. Thanks for the info to anyone who knows. I hope this isn't a stupid question. MOO. Katt

Levi(the son of Jacob in the bible) is not the same as Levianthan/Leviathan, which is the serpent of satan defeated by Yahweh. I'm just looking forward to hearing more about this family or what Levi was experiencing in school/socially to understand why he did this. Here is what we know so far:

The violence also shocked the Norwoods' family members. One told News4 that Levi Norwood had trouble at home and she wants to hear his side of the story.

"This is the absolute most unimaginable, unthinkable, tragedy that anybody could ever endure," said Victoria Eaton, Josh Norwood's aunt.

"There were difficulties for him at home. It was not easy for him," Eaton said of Levi Norwood. "I wanna hear what he has to say."

Eaton did not want to go into specifics but pleaded with parents to take action on any concerns.

"Please pay attention to your children. Get them help when you see any red flags," she said.

Agree, and it’s super-weird to me that the father in this case is publicly labeling the son a “monster” and a “murderer”—IIRC, in several other cases from the past year or two, surviving parents of kids who have murdered their siblings or other family members typically haven’t immediately gone public with such harsh condemnation (and what sounds like an effective disowning) of their accused child! I definitely think there’s something weird about the dad’s reaction, not least because (MOO) some of his statements seem to make HIMSELF out to be the biggest victim here rather than his deceased wife and young son!

I live about 13 miles from there myself. He must have had family this way or he knew of the area due to the universities.

I don't intend to victim-blame here, but it seems slightly disingenuous to acknowledge that you've posted a white supremacist motto on your personal social media page and then to claim that "it's nothing I believe or stand for."

Slightly? I'd say incredibly disingenuous. You don't just go and post the 14 words quote, along with the white power symbol (cross inside of a circle) on your F B page if it is not what you believe or stand for. It also makes me wonder if the father's story about the murders are actually true - he seems shady. It's also strange that he escaped with only being grazed by a bullet. And, he had a gun on him and randomly fired it after being shot? I think there may be more to this story.

The kid's actual name is Leviathan, he just goes by Levi. His parents named him after their pet snake, whose name was Leviathan.

They started dating. And a year later, Norwood proposed to her at a Pantera concert. When they married in 2002, Jen was only 16. Her mother had to give consent, the relative said.

When the couple had their first child a year later, they named him after their favorite pet: a large snake called Leviathan.

“It was a strong name,” Norwood said. “Something unusual.”

To most people, the quiet boy with dark brown eyes was simply known as Levi.

Yes, I totally agree with you--it was a deliberate understatement. And I also think it's unusual that he described walking into the house, getting grazed by a bullet, searching for his family members, finding TWO of the three other Norwoods dead, and then blindly firing into the basement before fleeing. The WaPo story states he didn't learn the whereabouts of his son until the next day, and it doesn't really make it sound as though he was frantically searching for details on where the teen might be--which leads me to think he's not being quite truthful about having no idea/no prior warning that LN might become violent.

Agree -- I would assume that Levi was probably dead or injured as well. I'm sure I would be frantic about his condition, but I would not go through the house looking for him since the intruder/killer (I would have assumed) could still be in the house. Further, I am a wimp who knows nothing about using weapons. I would call/scream to him to see if he could be there somewhere, but I would get outside the house ASAP -- yes, even with a weapon and worried sick about my older son -- and call 911.
