I'm sorry. That's great that they are keeping in touch with the family but I still don't have much faith in their abilities to bring this person in. I hope I'm wrong.

ETA: CAgirl, I didn't mean that to be directed to you or be rude. I just have lost ANY confidence I had in them.

I have zero faith in PPD being able to solve Meghans case. I grew up in P-town (moved when I was in my mid-twenties I'm in my fifties now) and PPD has always had a reputation of corruption and bumblers. I don't say that to be insulting, it's just the way it is. At one point there was a huge conflict between the P-town Sheriffs office and P-town Police. Last I heard there were still tensions there. It seems that PPD is the lowest paid in the area so they have a hard time keeping personnel. I really hope that justice is found for Meghan and her family. I feel for the family, especially the step-dad, it would be my worst nightmare to find one of my family like that.

Meghan was murdered around April 11. The perp should have been arrested weeks ago. IMO the case along with the forensics were bungled.

  • #606
I didn't want to say it before but I've heard (and I tend to believe the person I heard it from) that the forensics dept. of the PPD leaves a lot to be desired.

I was hoping with the new Chief that things might step up a bit. I guess you can only do so much with what you have.

Wasn't the Govt forensics at the scene hopefully they are more proficient.

I read through here and didn't see this posted yet. Developing New Stuff.

There are links to PDF's that show the Affidavits for search warrants.

MM good find! and did you see who filed that report it was Andy Fox.

Personally, I can't stand Andy Fox, I've had a couple encounters with him in the past. Funniest thing I ever saw was when the Transvestite Hooker in Olde Town beat him up, come to think of it, that would be funny even if it happened to someone I liked :) .

I normally check the news when I get home and it was there, I think it was on the 6 pm news here, lately I've had no time to do anything but today was a rain day!

Thanks for posting that MM. I just hope it's not too late and they move swiftly to get justice for Meghan. Anyone that would do something like that to a little kid should not be running loose.

i just sent a message to mmmbrownies.. decided to copy & post it here as well.... somebody do something!

outrage!!!!

it's 6 weeks since this child was killed, & this week detectives have decided to check out the computer forensics!

no matter how short-handed, over-worked, under-paid the cops are, this should have been done a day or 2 into the investigation!

i have been anxious for an arrest..... now, i am only hopeful her murderer will eventually be found.

mmmbrownies, thanks for your posts & local news. how do you assess the public mood? i know there have been very few official statements about this. are locals still talking? isn't it time for another community-wide vigil in support of identifying her killer? something must happen to spur this on.

noZme I felt the same disbelief this morn. when I heard on the news they are just now checking the computers .Weeks later?!

Well, I guess I'm not the only one. This should have been done a long time ago. Even I, who knows nothing, knows that invaluable information on crimes can be found in Myspace. Look how much information websluethers garnered over the years just by reading someone's myspace.

I think maybe NCIS is pretty sure they have their man. I think he's involved in something much bigger than Meghan's murder and they want to get him on all of it.

Mmmbrownies, I didn't want to say anything because I figured I'd be the minority but I can't stand Andy Fox either. I see him more as a buffoon than a reporter and I couldn't believe it when he ran for office.

I don't spend a lot of time chatting with neighbors but I've heard absolutely no one mention Meghan's case. Either everyone is afraid they'll say something that might harm the investigation or, I hope I'm wrong, they've forgotten that a sweet little girl was murdered in her own home, and whoever is responsible is still out there.

I would think the residents of the Simonsdale and Hodges Manor area are scared out of their wits, knowing that there is such a violent and heartless murderer running loose that seems to be familiar with their neighborhoods. I read the "comments" following stories in the local paper (virginian pilot), and remember some of the comments posters made a week or so after Meghans murder. I live near a poster named "Rose" and she had posted doubts about PPD's ability to solve this case. Many other posters slammed her for her comments. As it turns out, I guess she was right in expressing doubt in PPD. I grew up in that area and as I've said before, anyone that is familiar with P-town knows not to trust or count on their LE very much. I guess they're just one the cities that seem to always have problems with their LE.
I agree with the anti Andy Fox comments. I kept hoping he'd maybe get a tap from one of the cars he was chasing all over the road during the "road rebel" segments. Twice he has been busted with alcohol and driving, what a great example he is. It seems most of the local tv reporters here are loosers that couldn't make it elsewhere. That's not to say we don't get a good one from time to time, it's just that it's more the rule than the exception to have bad ones here. I think I'd rate andy fox as the most pitiful one though. I figure he must not get paid much and that's why they keep him.

Trust me, I don't take any comments regarding the PPD offensive or against me. :) I am aggrevated as well that this is taking SO LONG. I don't understand WHY, after the weeks it has been since child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 was found on said Navy man's computer, they are JUST NOW filing search warrants for Meghan's computer.

One can only hope this is the case. I keep waiting to hear of an arrest, and each day that goes by I get more angry that it hasn't happened yet. The family still holds out hope that this will be "the day", but the waiting surely sucks for all involved.

To Portsmouth area WebSleuther's:

I would love to co-ordinate another vigil or rally to draw attention to this unsolved murder... if only I lived nearby. The 2 month mark, is rapidly approaching. Can one of you spearhead a local effort? I am willing to do anything from here in support.

The news article Steve referenced in post #1 has names of neighbors who may be able to help. Perhaps the Youth Ministries Director at Pinecrest Baptist could help organize a rally... "in support of police" in finding Meghan's killer. There may be a homeowner's association, civic or student organization who would take on the project.

Participants could meet in a park or at her school. If it's feasible, they could walk to city hall or the police station. A short ceremony could include statements by youth pastor, a school official, city and police representatives. The group could sing a song, maybe a hymn. A friend may want to read a poem or something and have someone do a benediction.

After having so little to report after the 1st few days, the media would likely pounce on the coverage. A bank or business may be willing to have "Remember Meghan" tshirts printed for participants. It would be very inexpensive for several businesses to join in underwriting the costs (contribution proportionate to the size of their logo on backside of shirts). I would ask the newspapers, tv stations, Meghan's parents workplaces, businesses nearby (what are anchor stores at shopping center behind her home?), her dance/martial arts studio, insurance agencies and realtors for support..... but, to be ready in time, someone needs to get the ball rolling right away!

The murder occurred on April 10th. June 10th is a Tuesday.

If anyone is able to take on this project, please reply here or send me a personal message and we shall put our heads together in support of Meghan.

Thanks.

noZme

I don't now or ever will I blame people in law enforcement for what their shortcomings are unless it's appropriate (meaning the officer actually did something wrong). When I look at things, operation, time frames on investigations and things like that I tend to look past that and look to what limits people from doing what they're supposed to do. More times than not, I end ultimately placing blame on politicians rather than the people doing the job. The police are overworked, underpaid and underfunded (in all cities, not just this one) so logically you have to look to who determines pay, funding and workload or more appropriately the people that do the budgeting and approving of policies and budgets. I have nothing but respect for police officers, however, I have nothing but disdain for most politicians (not to mention alot of not really nicely worded questions).

The people that I know in this neighborhood are alot like me blue collar, middle (ish) income folks. I know that it hasn't been forgotten, I know that people are generally wondering why it's taking so long, what happened, and things of the like, but we all tend to soldier on, grumbling under our breath about what's wrong :) I don't see an overall terrified outlook on things either (from me or anyone else I know here).

It does sound like they're onto something that looks to produce some sort of resolution. I hope they button it up tight enough so that if this is the guy, then there's no way he'll walk away from it (literally, face up on a gurney is completely acceptable).

noZme, I wouldn't do anything like that without having the family's approval. I don't want to do anything that would upset them or cause problems with the investigation. Their silence must mean that they are okay with the way the investigation is being handled. Believe me though, one word from them and I'm sure there would be hundreds of people willing to march, write letters or whatever it is they wanted or needed.

I haven't heard from anyone that they're frightened. Yeah, every once in a while when I'm walking to the garage and it's dark I think about there could be someone out there. I think most people believe that this wasn't random and therefore don't have anything to fear personally.

mmmbrownies, I'm sure there are some hardworking men and women on the police force but there are just some things that I've heard that make me have doubts in their ability.
