IndyGal, it is a race issue whether you admit it or not. I've never known a single white person involved in the "sport" (ha!) of dogfighting. It is primarily a hobby of black culture.

It's also white hoosier red-neck back country boys. Not just blacks. The guys who shot their dog in the head on the Bryant Gumbel special were white.

I am an animal lover - my dog sleeps with me every night and is my baby.
I don't ever want to see Vick play football again. I find his actions disgusting and sick. However, I hope he finds forgiveness from his maker and society for what he has done if he seeks it by his actions. I hope he learns from this and comes out of it a changed person. I have forgiven people who never asked for forgiveness and I hope many have forgiven me my trespasses though I did not ask them to.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but there were 53 diogs left on Vick's property, and today was the last day for anyone to step forward and claim them. Nobody claimed any of them. The judge then ruled that the state would continue to take care of them for the time being, but their days are probably numbered and they will have to be euthanized, unless any of you want to attempt to rehab one of them?? I don't even know if they would allow anyone to try and adopt them, to rehab them.

This is all part of the same tragedy; the necessity to have to euthanize an addidtional 53 dogs, who ended up in Michael Vick's Bad Newz Kennels.

Of course it did. Any dog that's been taught to fight other dogs can't be retrained not to fight.

The commentators on CNN were again remarking about the uproar this caused; so much more than an athlete abusing his wife, or even a murder.

I think it is because so many of us care for our pets so much, realizing that they need to be taken great care of, and they love you just as much, if not more, than you love them. We have very strong feelings about animals. especially our dogs, and cats, but all animals; they are all special.

Well since I like animals (espeically dogs) more than I like people, yes it makes perfect sense to me.

And another thing is, people can run away or call police and fight back. Animals are DEFENSELESS.

I want to chain Mike Vick and his cohorts to my car and drive around until there is nothing but rusty chains dragging along. Either that or stone them all to death!

The State of Virginia will be filing those charges against him. They need to obtain the Federal evidence; if that isn't forthcoming, the fix is in.

Reports: Vick's father says he asked Falcons star to stop dogfighting

ATLANTA (AP) -- Michael Vick's father said he asked his son to give up dogfighting, or to at least put property used in the venture in the names of others to avoid being implicated, according to a report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Also Thursday night, a report on ESPN.com cited an unidentified ESPN source saying Vick will not admit to killing dogs or gambling on dogfights when he enters a guilty plea in a Richmond, Va., federal court Monday. ESPN reported that Vick's defense team met with federal attorneys Thursday afternoon to determine the "summary of facts" to which Vick will plead. But ESPN's source said Vick maintains he never killed dogs and never gambled on a dog fight. The source told ESPN the Atlanta Falcons quarterback will plead guilty to the charge of interstate commerce for the purpose of dogfighting.

On Monday, Vick agreed to plead guilty Monday in the federal dogfighting case in Richmond. He faces up to five years in prison and the possible end of his football career. Three co-defendants already pleaded guilty and were expected to testify against Vick if the case went to trial. In addition, a Virginia prosecutor is considering bringing state charges against Vick.

In The Journal-Constitution report posted on the newspaper's Web site Thursday night, Michael Boddie, who is estranged from Vick and the quarterback's mother, also said some time around 2001 his son staged dogfights in the garage of the family home in Newport News, Va. Boddie told the newspaper Vick kept fighting dogs in the family's backyard, including dogs that were "bit up, chewed up, exhausted." Boddie claimed to have nursed the dogs back to health.

A government official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the terms are not final, told The Associated Press Wednesday that prosecutors will recommend a sentence of one year to 18 months. However, U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is not bound by that recommendation or by federal sentencing guidelines that will call for less than the five-year maximum.

The above is nothing more than a slap on the wrist. If the Feds do roll-over on this, I am only hoping that the State Of Virginia will prosecute all four of them, and get Vick on the dog fighting, and gambling charges.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick's fate to be determined by 'tough but fair' judge

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The judge who will determine how much time Michael Vick spends in prison has shown little mercy over the years for high-profile defendants.

Nobody knows this better than defense lawyer Robert H. Smallenberg. In 2004, he represented a city official who stole more than $1 million from Richmond taxpayers. He was well aware U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson had earned a reputation for handing down stiff sentences. "Tough but fair" is the description most often heard from lawyers who appear before Hudson, who owns a bichon frise dog and declined to be interviewed.

"He's a good trial judge, but on sentencing he tends to be in the middle or upper range of the sentencing guidelines," said attorney Murray Janus. "A lot of judges start at the low end. Not Judge Hudson."

Still, Smallenberg was caught off-guard by how hard Hudson came down on his client. The judge sentenced Robert Evans to 10 years in prison -- double what was called for under federal sentencing guidelines -- declaring "the abuse of trust here is absolutely immeasurable."

Thanks for all the updates Buzz! It's pretty sad though that he can admit to causing the death of 8 dogs, but the ban from the NFL would be for gambling. :furious: Maybe the NFL needs to revise their "code of conduct".

Help me understand this. Michael Vick pleaded guilty to fighting and killing dogs, and bankrolling the operation. However, he states he never bet and he never shared
in the winnings. He just simply wanted to keep putting his money into it and never wanted any of it back? It's not like he could use it as a tax write-off. Yeah, right.
