Jeana, I certainly stand with you on your above statement. Also, to me, it isn't just that Vick is a law breaker. What kind of human being subjects other living creatures to the abuse of dog fighting and show such disregard for life. It is a sorry state of affairs that anyone supports barbarian behavior let alone the fact that by his actions Vick also appears to be a blatant, self-serving liar.

Well, look what O.J. Simpson did. Didn't deter anyone from sticking by his side. Even people who claim he "let their people down in the past" came to his defense. I don't see how we as a country can ever get past the race issue when the line is drawn in the sand everytime a famous black person commits a crime and so many are willing to overlook it.

I agree. The Tennessee puppy mill owner I posted about earlier in this thread was white. It never occurred to me to mention her race nor even think that a person's skin color has anything to do with whether or not they are a barbarian. She was in a vile business just like Michael Vick is in a vile business. I could care less about their skin color. People who prey on anything weaker than themselves are sorry excuses for human beings in my book no matter what their color.

Jeana, the blacks, who are supporting Vick, are attempting to make this a racial isssue. They need to understand that when it comes to any individual being involved in such a hideous pastime, race is not the issue. The issue is the ignominious deed itself, and black, white, yellow, red, or green, anyone involved should be despised, regardless of their race.

I think Michael Vick is history when it comes to the NFL. I don't expect him to ever play again.
Like Jeana, I don't understand it either. This is about the dogs who were tortured and killed during and after this so-called sport of dogfighting, and Michael Vick happens to be the one main person behind it. Don't these people care at all about the animals? I guess not. IMO, anyone who supports him is as bad as he is. :banghead:

Speaking of him playing football again, some TH last night was saying that he'll be back in maybe 2 yrs. if he takes the plea deal. GMAB! Since when does the NFL allow convicted criminals to continue playing after serving a prison sentence?

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear (with apologies to all the female pigs I've met ... pigs are very smart animals).

thank you :) but this just makes me so mad that people will overlook what he's been charged with and can only think of him being "persecuted" by the govt. because he's an African-American. Thank God we do have animal rights organizations that care about the dogs!

How very true that is.... They should get it to the fullest extent of the law. Peta will make mince meat out of this loser.

Absolutely!!!! If this turns into a "race" issue, we know where it came from and its very sad indeed.

He is persecuted by the government because evidence suggests he broke the law, a law built around the principles of humanity and not the color of someone's skin. He is receiving fair and impartial treatment based on his actions, not his color. I thought that was what equality was about.

Actually, after what I've heard about his continued lies to the NFL after his arrest and them finding out about it, I'd be more surprised than ever if he's allowed to return to football. Of course, there may be another commissioner in place by then who might not care as much as the current guy. I think the NFL is pretty pissed off at him right about now. Given the fact that there are some known rabid PETA supporters, I think the NFL knows this is a very touchy subject. Most people would rather have a human executed than a pet.

Yes, and it seems a lot of evidence suggests it. I think everyone is being more than fair toward him, from the government allowing him this extra time to agree to the plea, and the NFL for not yet formally terminating him.

Label Vick a dog killer

Co-defendants say Falcon QB killed 8; plea deal seen

Mike Vick reportedly was negotiating a plea deal late last night.

Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips (below) linked Vick to the dog-fighting ring after copping pleas.

RICHMOND, Va. - Michael Vick executed dogs that didn't perform up to his standards by hanging or drowning them, posed for a picture with one of his pit bulls before a dog fight and exclusively funded an interstate dog fighting operation that included gambling, according to court documents signed by two of his former co-defendants.

After ex-cohorts Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips fingered Vick with more damaging evidence in U.S. District Court yesterday, the elusive Falcons quarterback seemingly has nowhere to run. Vick was said to have agreed to a plea deal in principle but spent the day hammering out the details of the agreement, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The source strongly emphasized that a plea deal could still fall apart before it is finalized.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank told the Associated Press last night, "It seems a pretty clear indication there will be some sort of plea entered. When? I'm not positive."

I hope that his plea deal includes jail time. I also hope that the NFL comes down hard on him. What a sicko.

Does anyone know why Vick was allowed to continue the plea past last Friday's supposed deadline? TIA

Michael Vick is probably having a hard time accepting that they could do this to him, for what he considers a minor indiscretion. I think he thought he was too big of a name, and the NFL fans needed him.

I saw where the State of Virginia plans on filing charges against him within a month.

I think we will see an agreement just before the Grand Jury indicts him for racketeering.

If he only gets one year in jail I'll be very disappointed. I would rather see him go to trial and get 5-6 years. He can QB the prison flag football team. The other prisoners are probably looking forward to his arrival.

Because he's a celebrity, a NFL player, probably. If he bankrolled the fights and gambling took place then he could be banned from the NFL for life on the gambling charges alone, that have nothing to do with the dogs. The cruelty to animals, & dogfighting are other things the NFL can kick him out for.

Let me be the first to go out on a limb and say that Vick will NOT...NOT plea bargain this case.

In the egomaniac's mind, his fans still luve him. He is listening, wisely, IMHO to his attorneys who are telling him to take it to trial. They looked at a plea bargain that saves the career but the NFL Commissioner is apparently not going to tip his hand on what will happen to Vick if he pleads. Couple that with the fact that the judge told the other two thugs "you do understand that I don't have to abide by the recommended sentence in the plea, don't you?".

Vick isn't going to risk a plea that might net him real jail time and a lifetime suspension from the NFL via this tough judge and the new tough commissioner.

I think he is going to take it to trial and look for the lone, racist juror who will buy the whole "if Michael Vick wasn't black, we wouldn't be here nonsense".

You heard it here first.
