some updates from this morning:

On Wednesday, jurors watched video of the interview on Jan. 27, 2016. Prosecutors say that’s the day Nicole disappeared after climbing out her window to meet up with Eisenhauer.

Eisenhauer’s lawyer has told the jury that his alleged accomplice, Natalie Keepers, could have killed Lovell.

The defense wants to call Keepers as a witness, but her lawyers oppose that. The judge said he won’t make a ruling until Eisenhauer’s lawyers call her to testify.

Longtime lurker and thank you to everyone posting updates. I wanted to mention, as a local, I have never heard it referred to as the "cross country pond".
Locally and on campus, is almost exclusively called the "duck pond".

Both my kids attend/graduated from VT (Keepers was actually in the same dorm as my son) and both agree they've never heard that reference.

It strikes me as something exclusive for this case.

Did the judge call nap time? Wonder why no info now? It's a cold, dreary, rainy day in VA. Kinda fits my mood during this trial.

There's something a little icy about him. Lacking in emotion, imo.

I saw on a video yesterday and another one today when he entered the courtroom after lunch, that he has walked in with both his fists loosely clenched.

Did anyone else see that? At first I thought he was handcuffed until he was seated, but today I saw he clearly wasn't.

He's tightly wrapped as we used to say

I noticed that too and actually blew up the photo as I thought he had handcuffs on.

This twitterer is late to posting, but I'll take it:

1:40 p.m.: Detective Mike Czernicki from the Blacksburg Police Department is now giving testimony. He helped during the investigation at the pond at Virginia Tech. He explains he obtained the paint can after it was collected from the bottom of the pond.

The commonwealth switches gears to a few days before. Czernicki was also called to Craig Creek Road. He was looking for an area known as a paintball field, two or three miles outside route 460. He, along with other law enforcement officers saw lots of footprints and tire marks in the snow.

He was called to another location on Craig Creek Road, about a half mile from 460. There were tire tracks, and a red stain on the road. It was determined to be blood through a series of tests.

Czernicki searched Eisenhauer’s car, after getting a search warrant. The car was transported to the Radford Police Department in a temperature controlled bay.

Pictures of inside the car show a GPS device, a bottle of cleaning fluid, and a shovel. In the trunk of the car were paper towels, wet wipes, and a large deposit of blood. Some of those items had blood in them. Detectives took samples from the trunk to test for blood.

There was another stain of blood found on the outside of the car on the front right tire of Eisenhauer’s Lexus. There were also blood stains on the shovel and on the back seat.

Czernicki also showed the shovel, by taking it out of the evidence bag and showing it to the jury.

Eisenhauer’s attorneys begin asking how the evidence is collected, numbered, and stored.

<modsnip> there is a SECOND duck pond out on the 3.1 mile VTXC buford meredeth cross country course, and a creek.

its on the far south end of the campus

But is that the one they are referencing? I seem to recall the one near vet med being searched at the time.

I noticed that too and actually blew up the photo as I thought he had handcuffs on.

And both times, he holds them clenched at about waist/hip level.

O, Wait a second...that may be similar to a runner/racer's position and clench.

The shovel wouldn't have fit into the trunk, so I guess it was in the back seat. But why in the heck would have they brought the shovel back with them? Would have made more sense to get rid of evidence, instead, they held onto blood stained items. So glad they were stupid!

These kids sure did NOT do a good clean-up job. I think this will be part of their undoing.

Oh, and thanks to BettyP for answering my question about the cracked vertebrae. I had wondered if there's a possibility it could've come from throwing Nicole out of the trunk, or into it. If she had it before death, I don't think it was from being thrown down the mountain side in Lowgap although that was one of my first thoughts upon hearing it. I pray she didn't have to feel pain for long <please, God>.

Look at that photo of David. We were talking about the tie being tied so lose, but notice the top button isn't even buttoned. Makes me wonder if David has an issue with something being tight around his neck.

This morning when court started, there was something about one of the attorneys may have to leave early today. Wonder if that's what's going on? Surely they would have told us.

keeleydoll, thanks for that visual! I had totally forgotten about the third one.

Yes, I am tucked away in the courtroom. Shhh! Here is an excellent shot of Keepers being the "inscrutable, brilliant mastermind" in charge of the operation: her bloody palm printe' on the Lovell shovel:

Youre welcome (even you too Beaty ;))

So what's going on in that courtroom?

So it looks like court is done for the day. What's everyone's assessment after day 2? Worried? Confident? In between?

Some random thoughts:

- He's very lucky he's got those attorneys

- Not worried at all today

- Things are moving along quicker than I expected

- Attorneys on both sides appear to be very prepared, focused & professional (no theatrics)

I'm confident at this point. They have a lot of evidence.
