So sorry to hear this 2Hope4. They become our other children.

As a mother who has lost her son, I can tell you it is truly devastating. I can't imagine how Nicole's mom is having to handle this with her child murdered this way and having to go through the two trials. My heart aches for her.

1:25 p.m. UPDATE:

Julie Wesel, a Virginia Tech employee who works at the Hokie Passport Office, was called to testify by the Commonwealth Thursday.

Wesel explained that a Hokie Passport is used for access to resident rooms, gyms, meal plans and used to show visual identification for services across campus. She said passports are issued to students, faculty and staff.

Wesel testified that the use of Hokie Passports are also electronically recorded when they are used to enter a campus building or facility. She says those logs are kept by the Virginia Tech for 365 days.

During her testimony, evidence was entered that shows a log of David Eisenhauer's and Natalie Keepers' use of their Hokie Passports for January 1, 2015 to February 4, 2016.

Wesel testified that on January 26, 2016 the night Lovell was taken from her home and scheduled to have a date with Eisenhauer, he used the card at the Ambler-Johnston West dorm building at 11:21 p.m.

His next log into the dorm was January 27 at 2:32 a.m. at the same dorm.

According to that same testimony, Natalie Keepers last log on January 26 was at 11:05 p.m. at Lee Hall dorm. Her next time logged into the system, using her Hokie Passport was at 11:35 a.m. into Lee Hall the next day.

Forestics person says Natalie Keepers CAN be eliminated from the foreign DNA on Nicole Lovell, but David Eisenhauer CANNOT be eliminated.

  • #786
WideLake13, so what's your theory as to what happened? Do you believe David was involved at all? Was he present when Nicole was murdered?

Harold explaining how she tested the foreign DNA that was found on Nicole Lovell’s body. “David Eisenhauer cannot be eliminated as a contributor,” Harold read from her analysis report. “Natalie Keepers can be eliminated as a contributor.”

Natalie Keepers and David Eisenhauer were both eliminated from being part of the DNA profile found on the shovel but Nicole Lovell was not. In short, that means that Lovell's DNA was found on the shovel, but scientifically and legally they say it differently.

Good question. Did this mystery person do the killing? Who was that person, how did they meet DE and why would they participate in killing NL? Or is this just another defense "red herring" to plant doubt in the minds of jurors? If so, it's a pretty weak red herring. According to the testimony earlier by Jones, DE was randomly cruising all around the area in the hours before he killed NL.

Harold also testified that there was “not enough” DNA inside a pair of cleaning gloves found with Nicole Lovell’s blood on them to determine who had worn them. Wow.

Harold says they swabbed to get "wear DNA" from the inside of the gloves, but they didn't get enough DNA from that to go forward with DNA typing.

Check out the odds:

She said during her investigation she found DNA under Nicole Lovell's fingernails. She said that she can eliminate Natalie Keepers DNA from that evidence, but could not eliminate David Eisenhauer's DNA.

Eisenhauer's DNA matched that evidence enough that Harold said she would only find that exact DNA one time out of 2.3 billion Caucasian people.

The blood on the shovel, Harold testifies, belonged to Nicole Lovell.

Has it been established yet whether the shovel was even used at the crime scene or what it was used for or if at all?

Could it have not been used at all and had NL's blood as a result of transfer?

Could NK have used it the next day in a lame attempt to bury her at the original crime scene? I wish we knew more about that scene. One of the officers testified they saw an area of blood on the roadway at the crime scene. Did he just stop on CC Rd, get NL out of the car then kill her right there on the roadway?

Just trying to sort this out.

2:10 p.m. UPDATE:

Forensic Examiner Travis Harvey with the Blacksburg Police Department was called to testify Thursday about the forensic exam was that performed on David Eisenhauer when he was arrested.

Evidence taken by a forensic nurse from Eisenhauer's body was entered into evidence.

Detective Mike Czernicki, with the Blacksburg Police Department, was called back to the stand after Harvey entered that forensic evidence into the courtroom.

Czernicki testified that the evidence was securely kept and unopened since its recovery.

Nicole Harold, the forensic biology section supervisor at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science was called to testify next.

She explained what DNA was to the jury. Multiple items collected during the investigation were entered into Harold's department for DNA analysis by investigators.

Harold examined some of those items and prepared a certificate of analysis confirming her findings.

She explained that certificate compares DNA samples taken from evidence and DNA taken from suspects in the case.

Harold said she obtained blood samples from Nicole Lovell, David Eisenhauer and Natalie Keepers and used those samples to compare against evidence taken.

Using those same type of statistics, Harold also said the blood found on and in the car, as well as the blood found on items in the trunk, such as wet wipes and cleaning supplies, belong to Nicole Lovell.

Blood found on the shovel also belongs to Nicole Lovell.

No, that's huge

That' enough for me.

Wonder how he recruited and communicated with this mystery accomplice? He was very careless with his online and cell phone communications. He left an electronic/social media trail a mile wide. Didn't bother to get a burner phone or anything. If he had a mystery accomplice, how did he communicate with him? He didn't, because there was no mystery accomplice.

Yeah, he didn't get a burner phone, but they turned off the cell phones...and had that GPS going...not too swift, eh?
