I said I couldn't do another one but I did. I knew in my heart this is where we would end up.

How children get returned to drug addicts and unfit parents is something I will never understand. It is wrong on so many levels.

Poor little guy didn't have a chance.

I am sad beyond words and I know there will be more.

This is not necessarily about Noah specifically but there has been a LOT of misinformation on this thread about assistance programs as well as social services and I’d like to share some info so we can all be better informed going forward.

The absolute MAX in SNAP benefits a household of 4 could receive is $640 a month. There’s several factors to determine how much you may receive but that’s the federal max that JT and her 3 children would get a month. SNAP may only be used to purchase food items, no diapers, vitamins/meds, tobacco, alcohol, cleaning products, etc. it also cannot be used for hot/ prepared foods. The money is loaded on to a debit like card and there is no way that one could withdrawal cash from it or anything like that. Welfare fraud is also a popular topic, people believe there is widespread misuse of SNAP benefits (largely due to Regan’s “welfare queen” argument) however the fraud rate has been decreasing since the 1980s and today less than 1.5% rate of welfare fraud.

I’ve also seen several people comment that this woman, and others in similar situations, should be forcibly sterilized. This is 100% eugenics and the US has a very ugly not so distant past with sterilization policies. This is a human rights violation and previous policies targeted low income people and minorities. If you are unaware of this history I encourage you to research the US history of eugenics.

As far as CPS returning children to homes, their goal is to keep families together as much as possible because the science and statistics show that keeping families together is whenever possible has the best long term outcomes for all involved. Yes there are incredible foster families out there but often times the homes children are put in are not much better than the homes they are removed from. It’s been a minute since I’ve looked at the numbers, however last I recall around 1/5 children that are placed into foster care will attempt suicide before they are 18. CPS investigations are not planned, a case worker will show up unannounced if a report is made. The only visits that are planned are those that occur as part of a plan developed between the parent, social worker, and the courts after a case has been brought forth, however caseworkers can still show up at anytime to check the children with no advanced notice.

What happened to Noah was a true tragedy, however bashing social safety net programs and those who depend on them does nothing to help those children and further stigmatizes the people who depend on them
I am glad that someone took the time to clear this up. Thank you. It needed to be said.

Could be the child tax credit. All they need to make in a year is like $600 or something to claim all those kids at $2k/ea. My friends brother and his baby mama are on drugs and have five kids, no power, no food, youngest is being held back for the 3rd time in kindergarten for missing so many days because of lice. They use every bit of the $1200/mo they get for food stamps (bc you can apparently withdraw money off of the cards and they sell the rest) for drugs. Cps has been contacted no less than 15 times and no one has ever shown up. It’s awful, and it’s even worse when legally your hands are tied in helping. :(

Poor Noah. My prayers are with him, as I hold my almost two year old boy, I just cannot imagine hurting a child.
Advise the school of your concerns. They are mandated reporters and I'm surprised the school hasn't reported them already. As they say, it takes a Village and we're that Village.

Would like to say what I think about CPS and a system that was o.k. with a child being burned on a hot stove and not taken to the hospital for 3 + days --- and CPS did not take those children out of that home.

Would like to say what I think of single "mothers" who abuse drugs over their children to the point that some children have been removed... and yet nothing changes.

Would like to say what I think about a system that provides assistance without any 'checks and balances' for the innocent children who are supposed to receive food and clothing from those funds.

Will sit on my hands.

Feeling some hate for certain people -- not with the kind of anger that is bitter-- but a cold wrath that's wanting justice.

Is there no way to see children permanently removed from dangerous homes where no "effs' " are given, neither by the egg nor sperm donors ?

Homes where nothing is done no matter how many red flags there are.

Unfortunately, this will happen again.
I don't see a way to prevent this-- unless we as a society can start taking children from incompetent parents.
Laws need to be enacted to enforce the removal of innocent children from those who are not fit to be parents, like Noah's egg donor.

Rest in peace to Noah, who never stood a chance.
Hopefully the remaining siblings can be adopted out to decent people.

It is so infuriating this happens. My son and daughter-n-law does foster care. There are two children who they had for two years and against many people stating that "mom" should not get them back, the judge saw it different. Oh and while they were in the care of my son she had another child. They were home for two months, no check ups on the kids. It wasn't until someone from her church saw bruises all over one of the boys and called it in (thank God) did she get checked on. Within that short span of time, on of the kids fell out of a two story window...no one followed up on that, she was back to doing drugs and beating on the two older children. Thank goodness all three of them are back in the care of my son and daughter-n-law.
I just don't understand how anyone, especially a parent could hurt a child. I am so sorry for poor Noah but I feel almost worse for the other children that will have to live with the fact that they lost their brother at the hands of their mom. My heart breaks for all of them RIP baby Noah.

I don’t know...there’s always posts on Craig’s list selling hundreds of dollars worth of assistance or the food that’s been purchased with it. People say if someone doesn’t use the full amount every month, the amount will be lowered, so they buy everything allowed, then sell it. I have no idea how true that is. When drugs are involved, logic goes out the window, imo. I have no issues providing enough food for my kids, but now that one is a teenage boy I’d love another hundred or two in my grocery budget.
I'm pretty sure SNAP benefits are based on family size and income. The reason communities have food pantries is because the SNAP benefit usually doesn't last the month. That food is donated and I really would not have a problem if food is sold because it likely is being sold at below market rates to someone who needs it.

I can't speak for everybody else but I have no problem at all bashing a parent who commits child abuse or the safety net program that failed to protect the safety of the child. Not much of a net if the child can so easily fall through it.

There is still too much fraud in SNAP. That is a reality. The easiest way to defraud SNAP is not to report income or falsely claim custody of children who live with the other custodial parent. I don't know if Noah's mother defrauded welfare but it also won't surprise me because she's a criminal.

The goal of reunification should not be based on statistics but rather on the best interest of the children. The recidivism of drug addicts is very high. No child removed from drug addicts or child abusers should EVER be returned to the drug addicts/child abuser. That's just common sense.

There used to be higher standards for foster parenting. For example, in my state, the foster was required to have sufficient income on their own to support care of another child. The foster payment would then be added to the household income but allowing foster parents who take in children as a revenue stream is bad, bad public policy.

In the case of AJ Freund, social workers showed up unannounced but there was no law requiring the parent to let them see the child and AJ's parents didn't.

Noah is yet another child the system has failed miserably.

Oh gosh just checked in. Talk about mixed emotions. Sad all hope is lost and he was in fact found deceased. Comforted in the fact he has been found. But so angry he was dumbed like trash!!!! RIP sweet Noah.
So is this why she withdrew her bond request?
And who knew what she did? IMO Someone had to have tipped them off.
Thoughts with that poor LE officer who found him. I just couldn’t Imagine.
bbm
My thoughts the same. As soon as I heard he had been found, I just knew that someone talked to LE -- that person saw something or heard something that night (or whenever it was) and finally felt that s/he had to tell LE.
I certainly don't think mommie dearest said anything to help them find that little boy. I hope she has nightmares tonight about a needle in her arm -- but the drug is not her usual joy-juice.
If she is responsible, of course.

Maybe her future disability will be not living. I have not one shred of sympathy or empathy for this creature.
Same here -- She made her own decisions.
I wonder if she is or has gone through any type of drug withdrawal... I surely hope so ... maybe she has experienced the pain in her stomach that her sweet son did when he was hungry or when he drank spoiled milk X 100. Or the shakes like he may have had when she came into his room X 100. Grrrrrr.:mad:

Thanks for the good and informative post, Splash197.
I will say, too, that whenever I saw a post about sterilization, etc., I winced. That idea is abhorrent, IMO, and a dangerous slippery slope, and it really strikes at a woman's basic rights to make her own decisions about control of her own body. It also hearkens back to a time when some women were indeed sterilized -- the decision to perform it was often based simply on their background, color, address, etc. A shameful period in our history.
I knew that SNAP or WIC (Women, Infants & Children), etc., cards can only be used for certain items, and no cash is given back ever -- thanks for reminding us. And it is especially helpful to know that certain types of visits by CPS, etc., are not announced -- I know that this is true in N.C. and always has been.
Our protective system needs work, capable and dedicated people to assist and manage, and more money -- as so many areas of our lives do -- but it does help in a lot of cases where parents are really trying to climb out of a hole and have no family, etc., to help them. JMHO.

Re: government benefits, I live in NYC so I know a little... one way that recipients can get around using WIC/SNAP for healthy foods, is to shop at corner "package" or "bodega" stores that don't have cash registers that give line-item details; in much the same way a teacher friend liked to shop at non-chain bookstores, so it was possible to occasionally gloss over a $3.69 for cappuccino or greeting card, something other than textbooks, when she did her income taxes.

Often the bodega/package stores are run by recent immigrant community members who may not be "up" on all the regulations; and thus wave someone wielding a benefits card through with a pack of Marlboro Reds and kettle chips in their hands, if they are going to be rung up without any item description. Conversely, I've been in grocery chains standing behind people using their cards, who brought up a basket full of healthy, homey ingredients; and then, some kid tried to sneak through a box of sugared cereal at the end, only to have the clerk wagging a stern finger at them and sending it back to the shelf. (Not that I blamed the kid! I thought "While ham hocks and collard greens are good solid economical food, I myself would have hated to be, say, eight; and be fed on that type of food exclusively when my classmates ate God knows what junk in front of me."

RIP, sweet little Noah. I wanted a better ending for you, with your innocent hopeful little face.

Not to be a debbie downer...but the press releases I am reading have not CONFIRMED that the remains found are him, correct ??? Do we have anything verifying this??
