Here is a recent report about GEDMATCH. Of course GEDMATCH was recently sold to a private company and there are a number of private companies who have a vested financial interest in the use of investigative genetic genealogy and gaining more access to innocent peoples DNA at databases. I say gain that I believe investigative genetic genealogy is a flawed and imperfect science that has actually been used to wrongly accuse a number of innocent people of crimes they did not commit including in the Golden State Killer case where in my opinion the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson. We all want to see offenders caught in cases like the Amber Hagerman case and I want LE to continue to try and protect innocent people including myself and there should be justice for victims like Amber and all victims of violent crime. However it should be the right person accused of the crime or that just creates a whole new group of victims and this is the wrongly accused and it threatens the very difference between right and wrong:

“Justice for Amber’s family as well as thousands of others is possible through GEDmatch,” said Allison Nunes, chief operating officer with DNA Labs International. “Our goal with the #DNAOptIn campaign is to bring awareness to the public about why opting in is so important for solving cold cases as well as current. Those buying ancestry DNA kits as gifts this holiday season should tell their loved ones about why opting into GEDmatch is so important, and they both can make a real difference.”

As people may or may not care I only have one suspect and my suspect in the Amber Hagerman case would be the I70 Killer who also struck near Allington Texas. It may be him or maybe someone else but it is important that it the right person and not an innocent person wrongly accused through the use of investigative genetic genealogy as it is good PR and profits for private companies:

As I have said on this thread I do not believe that Joseph DeAngelo is the Golden State Killer and is actually an innocent elderly man who has suffered greatly after being misidentified as the offender through flawed investigative genetic genealogy science when the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson. He is of course due to appear in court again very soon. Here is a video about his arrest:

As I have stated on this thread I am in favour of killers and criminals being caught and I am in favour of DNA databases like the one set up in California by Detective Larry Pool and the Harrington family to try and catch the Golden State Killer or EAR/ONS. As I have said before I believe flawed DNA 'science' has lead to an innocent man being accused or these crimes and that there have been many other cases where investigative genetic genealogy has been used to identify a criminal suspect where it is likely other innocent people have been wrongly accused of crimes and another case in my opinion is the NorCal Rapist case where the same flawed investigative genealogy science was again used to wrongly accused another innocent man of the crimes of Ralph Jackson. This is not a political argument as it is my belief anyone can be wrongly accused of crimes through the use of these flawed and in my opinion unscientific procedures. Republican, Democrat or non voter and it does not matter if you are black, white, yellow or a mixture of these. I make these points because I am going to post this article because it is about DNA databases and again in my view any DNA databases may be used by genealogists to accuse an innocent person of crimes they did not commit:

Here is a report in a case where the suspect was identified through the use of investigative genetic genealogy. Again I make the point that in my opinion flawed investigative genetic genealogy 'science' was actually used to wrongly accuse an elderly man of crimes he did not commit in the Golden State Killer case:

The suspect in a 43-year-old double murder case will undergo a competency exam.

The attorney for 82-year-old Raymand Vannieuwenhoven is asking for the review.

The Lakewood man is charged with killing David Schuldes and Ellen Matheys in Marinette County. The Green Bay couple was camping at McClintock Park in July of 1976.

Prosecutors say DNA ties Vannieuwenhoven to the murders.

Here is another report about the above story relating to DNA databases:

This DNA biometric information will be used to “create profiles in a massive national criminal database run by the FBI,” and the information will be held “indefinitely,” according to FOX 17 News.

The first move is part of the Trump administration’s five-step plan initiated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) “to consider most immigrants entering the U.S., even those who come to legal ports of entry, as criminals,” The Crime Report detailed in October of 2019.

CBS News reporters write how DHS officials, citing the DNA Fingerprint Act of 2005, said that “those who refuse to consent to the new DNA collection efforts could be referred for criminal prosecution.”

Advocates and immigration attorneys are sounding the alarm bells.

Stephen Kang, an immigration attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), told CBS News, “This is going to be a massive intrusion into individual privacy and it seems to us like a way of just collecting a DNA databank of people who are in immigration custody — which we view as really problematic.”

Here is a report about a case in Utah where investigative genetic genealogy was used to identify a possible suspect in a serious crime spree:

Man’s DNA allegedly linked to sexual assaults in Arizona, Utah:

Authorities say his DNA matched that of an assailant who sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman after breaking into her home outside Flagstaff in 2003. DNA from that scene was later matched to DNA from a 2004 sexual assault of a young woman in Cedar City, Utah.

Again it is worth stating in my opinion Dr Barbara Rae-Vemter was part of a process that misidentified an innocent man as the offender in the Golden State Killer case when the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson and this has relevance to the case above in my opinion and all other cases where investigative genetic genealogy has been used to identify possible suspects in criminal cases inspired by the Golden State Killer case which as I have said in my opinion resulted in an innocent man being wrongly accused of the crimes and this man has been incarcerated for well over a year with declining health. Today Mr Waller appears in a court in the NorCal Rapist case and again in my opinion he is an innocent man wrongly accused of crimes he did not commit through the same flawed investigative genetic 'science' that made the mistake in the Golden State Killer case. In the NorCal Rapist case I believe the offender was again Ralph Leon Jackson and the NorCal Rapist crimes can been seen as a continuation of his NorCal Rapist crimes and I can see it is him in the CCTV behind the clear hockey mask with his rather prominent nose and powerful neck and shoulders.

And for what it is worth I am not a betting man but if I had to bet on who the offender was in the Utah and Arizona rapes which have similarities in the NorCal Rapist and East Area Rapist cases I will only give people one guess.

Here is a report about a case where investigative genetic genealogy was used to identify a suspect:
email.svg

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - (CBS2/Fox28) — On the 40th anniversary of the grisly murder of Kennedy High School senior Michelle Martinko, the man accused of the crime is fighting the evidence police say definitively points to him as the murderer.

Court documents filed December 18th show Jerry Burns is trying to suppress evidence that may be used against him in his February trial.

Defense attorney Leon Spies writes that the state intends to introduce statements Burns made to investigators, as well as forensic evidence. They want that thrown out, saying:

the Defendant contends that any scientific evidence or expert testimony regarding any claimed 'match' between the Defendant’s genetic profile and the profile obtained from biologic material obtained from the Martinko vehicle or the victim’s clothing is inadmissible, as are any statements obtained from the Defendant during law enforcement interrogation.
After Martinko's 1979 murder, investigators collected blood they believed belonged to her killer. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation submitted the DNA to Parabon-NanoLabs in 2016.

In 2017, Parabon helped create composites of a suspect from DNA found in Martinko’s car.

Using that same DNA from blood found on Martinko's clothing and the gear shift in her car, police were able use genetic genealogy to compare their unknown suspect's genetic material to DNA from family members, using a public database called GEDmatch.

Spies says the search of GEDmatch was warrantless, as were subsequent collections of DNA from Burns' relatives.

Investigators ultimately narrowed down their familial DNA search to Burns, covertly collecting a straw they used to test his DNA against the sample found at the Martinko scene. Police say the chance the sample would match anyone other than Burns is 1-in-100,000,000,000.

Spies says these searches violated Burns rights to expectation of privacy and unreasonable search and seizure.

I do not know who the offender was in this case but I would urge any Public Defenders in cases where a potential suspect has been identified to read what I have said on this thread about what I have said about possible flaws in the science behind investigative genetic genealogy which generates supposed DNA hit that are presented as being a trillion to one when in reality I believe they do not exist in cases like the Golden State Killer case where I believe the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson. I also believe this is the case in the Washington State case of Mr Talbott which resulted in a wrongful conviction when the science behind what I believe was an erroneous DNA hit was not challenged and just accepted.

Here is another report about investigative genetic genealogy:

But according to Professor Graham Coop and postdoctoral researcher Michael 'Doc' Edge at the UC Davis Department of Evolution and Ecology, someone with a bit of expertise in genetics and computing could design and upload DNA sequences that extract far more from these databases than some lost cousins. It may be possible for an attacker to pull out the genetic information of most people in a database or to identify people with specific genetic traits such as Alzheimer's Disease.

Coop and Edge notified the database companies of the problem in July, 2019 to allow them time to put countermeasures in place before publishing a preprint in October.

As I have said about if any Public Defenders think their clients are innocent in cases where they have been identified through the use of investigative genetic genealogy they challenge the supposed DNA hits as I believe in many cases they in reality do no exist because the science is flawed. I am not a scientist but this is likely because of the processes the DNA has been put through and of course processes are subjective and involve people. It is my opinion that Sacramento LE have likely arrested three innocent people alone in the Golden State Killer case, the NorCal Rapist case and another rape case. In my opinion Ralph Leon Jackson was definitely the offender in two of these cases and it would not surprise me if he was responsible for the crime where a stun gun was used on the victim as well. Here is a report about the case mentioned in the above post:

Here is some of the above article:

In a previously filed motion, his attorney argued authorities didn’t have a warrant when they allowed the private Parabon-NanoLabs of Reston, Va., to upload a DNA profile developed from blood stains on Martinko’s dress and gearshift of her car to the public genealogy database GEDmatch — the first step in connecting the DNA with Burns.

Defense attorney Leon Spies also argued that the warrantless seizure and search of biologic specimens and DNA from Burns’ brothers and other relatives during the investigation violated his “expectation of privacy in familial DNA,” according to the motion.

Another investigator began to testify Friday after Denlinger was finished, but 6th Judicial District Judge Fae Hoover said because of scheduling issues, the hearing would continue next week. A date for that wasn’t set Friday.

In my opinion it is more the other way around where the mistakes of ParaBon Labs and LE with the use of flawed investigative genetic genealogy are being suppressed including in the case of Mr Talbott where I believe there was also no legitimate DNA hit:

Denlinger told the court he began working with the company in 2015 as a way to help generate more leads.

"DNA could provide more information than just that our suspect was a male. So I was kind of interested in trying to determine how we could get that information from our sample. Could we get information such as race, or hair color, things that could help generate more leads or narrow down our suspect pool," said Denlinger.

The recent advances in the field allowed the company to take that DNA profile generated from a bloodstain found on the back of Martinko's dress and build a family tree from it to find relatives.

Parabon used that DNA profile and uploaded it into a free online database, GEDmatch which eventually led them to a woman in Iowa.

"We found a living relative, Janice Burns of Lisbon, Iowa," said Denlinger, "I made contact to see if she'd help."

Burn's lawyer did not cross-examine Denlinger before the state called their second witness, a CRPD Lieutenant, David Dostal.

As I have said on this thread it is my opinion that LE do not understand the science behind what they call investigative genetic genealogy and made many mistakes with their use of it wrongly accusing innocent people of crimes they did not commit including in the Golden State Killer case where the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson. Of course therefore I am concerned about the continued spread of investigative genealogy and the access LE and genealogists manage to gain to innocent peoples DNA to use. Here are details of a investigative genetic genealogy training course within Kansas LE:
Course detail: MCIGG - Midwestern Conference on Investigative Genetic Genealogy
The Wichita Police Department is hosting a two-day conference with the "A-Team" of the revolutionary crime-solving technique of investigative genetic genealogy. Conference topics will include law enforcement's use of IGG, use of public DNA databases, sample processing, genetic genealogy, prosecution, best practices.

Each participant will receive a DNA kit.

I have stated about that in my opinion the process used to identify Mr DeAngelo in the Golden State Killer case was scientifically flawed and hence those involved in it were involved in wrongly accusing an innocent man of the crimes. Also in my opinion the conviction of Mr Talbott in Washington State was a wrongful one as there was no legitimate DNA hit because the science was again flawed and the FBI were aware of this fact at the time of his trial as they are aware of it today and they are in my opinion also aware Mr DeAngelo is not the Golden State Killer and that the actual offender was a man called Ralph Leon Jackson and have been aware of this since 2010. I say this because again Mr DeAngelo is due to appear in a court room despite deteriorating health and in my opinion if this happens it will because of and to cover up the mistakes of LE.
