Wow. I’m going to need some time to absorb all of that. Thank you for sharing.

Agree, there's quite a bit to process in this story. Thanks, Strawberry, for posting the link.

One thing I noted is that the story states is that there was pre-meditation to kill the Fricker parents. He apparently posted about it several times online. At one point he considered killing his girlfriend, too, but changed his mind. The story says he was in his girlfriend's bedroom, waiting for the parents to come in so he could kill them.

The rest of the story is somewhat rambling, composed to elicit sympathy for the killer's mother, but not for the killer. It's also interesting that this story and details of the murders are being released to the public when LE has revealed very little. Kind of like trying to tell their version of the story before LE reveals the details.

It's also somewhat confusing as to whether the mother did cut off her son's access to the internet as ordered or didn't. One place she says they did, but later she says she wishes she had cut off access. Which is it?

It read to me as if he had planned to kill the girlfriend then himself rather than the parent. It’s a damn shame she kept a weapon accessible with such a troubled son in the house. I always feel for these parents though. Imagine having a kid and he begins having mental issues in the second grade? And never has friends. Must be so hard. And apparently she never knew about the swastika mowing incident

Well, this explains one thing...

Penny Potter, a neighbor, said in December that other neighbors had brought the swastika to the attention of the teen’s parents, but in recent days she said she was mistaken. Neighbors never told the teen’s family or the police and the teen’s family said they never saw it.

The bit about the Kindle... Maybe she didn't realize it was possible to access the internet on it until after.

That's possible. It just doesn't sit well with me that she got this big sympathetic story out in the national news media before police have even released any information about the killer and events leading up to the murders. It's like she wanted to get her version of the story out to the public before LE.

If local LE decides to continue to keep details about the suspect and murders from the public using the "juvenile" shield, well its even more suspicious. The killer's lawyers are already arguing he's mentally incompetent to stand trial. Perhaps LE wants to go this route to ensure the killer gets a light sentence, if any. Perhaps they feel sorry for him because he was injured in his own murderous attack. So, they have the mom put out a news story sympathetic to the killer and his family to blunt public outrage when they let him off with a slap on the wrist for premeditated murder. JMO, it's only a theory and I hope its wrong.

Let's hope that's not what they're doing, but it's a plan that seems possible to me. JMO Given this story landed in the Washington Post makes me think they're using professional PR services. It's routinely done by families who can afford it when a member of the family kills someone or is suspected of murder.

I just did a screen shot of the entire article. Upon reading it a second time, I can see where the article has been changed slightly.

This statement in bold, was changed slightly from the version online yesterday. Yesterday it was worded a little more clearly to indicate he snuck inside and was waiting in the girl's bedroom specifically for the parents to come in so he could shoot them. My bad, I should learn to keep screen shots of these things.

The family later discovered the messages on a Kindle, and the teen’s 15-year-old sister reviewed them before the device was seized by police.

“If you do this, it’s eternity in hell,” the sister said the acquaintance wrote in one message. The teen replied: “That doesn’t really matter if [the girl] and I are together.” In another, the teen said he was “saving” his girlfriend. One of the last messages came from when he was on the Frickers’ front lawn.

Once inside the home, the teen waited in the girl’s bedroom.

When Scott Fricker entered, detectives told Janet Kuhn, the teen opened fire. He then shot Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, who was trailing her husband, Kuhn said. The daughter then called 911, according to a recording of police radio traffic.

The new phrasing leaves some wiggle room to say he shot in self-defense. He waited. They came in and he opened fire. The pre-meditation language is missing.

Mom and family are also still anonymized in this article, so it could indicate LE and judges plan to continue to keep his criminal files secret. JMO, this is really shady. They keep his information secret, but allow the mom, anonymously, to selectively reveal information about the killer and crime.

I hope the family of the deceased Fricker parents pursue every legal remedy available to them to ensure this whole thing isn't swept under the rug and to ensure justice for them. This killer shouldn't be allowed back into society for a very long time.

Another unusual quote:

She loved her son, but as doctors prepped him for surgery she blurted out a dark question she still has trouble believing any mother could utter: “Why are we saving him because he killed two people?”

She claims she wanted to let her son die?

I do think something may be there but I lean left of center. I grew up in a politically diverse family. I have family of various political persuasions and none preach hate that Im aware of. One of my parents is what I'd call a conservative dem, the other a more conservative Republican, and neither are single issue voters. Neither understand what has happened to our country. They are in their 80s and just dismayed. With that said, Ive got friends of all political stripes. Ive also got kids, raised under the same roof, all bio sibs, who are on totally opposite ends of the political spectrum. No one, in my family, has ever murdered anyone, to my knowledge. I blame unfettered access to firearms, and meeting up with other disgruntled teens/adults, on the internet, for much of the violence, perpetrated by these young people. Lock the *#×%"! firearms up when there are kids in the home. Even if you don't believe your child will kill anyone, it is possible they could accidentally shoot themselves, and bleed out, before they reach an emergency room.

Most people do not take a weapon and kill someone. Rather, their voting and espousing certain views allows for such things as cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, massive incarceration, leniency to wealthy rapists, that hurt people tremendously.

Her son, accused of murder, is being called an 'alt-right killer.' This mother blames herself.

http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2018/03/her_son_accused_of_murder_is_b.html

I agree with others, mental illness had little to do with this murder. At the age of 17, most people know that it's wrong to kill people and that pro-Nazi hate groups are bad. This guy had a lot of people trying to help him out and he refused all of it. This was premeditated murder. He planned it and discussed it extensively with others on social media. He had plenty of time to reconsider and he knew the consequences of his actions.

It's dangerous to the public when these violent alt/right people are portrayed in a sympathetic manner. What is the criminal justice system saying if it doesn't take on hate crimes?

Another way to help save things is to save them on the internet archive - just copy and paste the page and it will be saved exactly as it appeared at that moment.. and that means others will be able to see it too.

Agreed --

From MSM, the swastika was fairly large -- on a google map, the area where it was done was facing a street in the neighborhood -- seems to me, it would have been difficult not to notice it. JMHO

On another note, he could have taken that gun to this school... but he had narrowed down his target, seems to me. Awful results, just awful.

Yes, according to the article and others, he was discussing with someone online (at one of the alt/right sites) who he wanted to kill. Police have interviewed the person he was discussing it with online. He originally wanted to kill his girlfriend and his parents, but posted that he changed his mind and would not kill his girlfriend.

Yes, it sounds like they have enough evidence for pre-meditation. However, LE is still keeping his case buried from the public and the news media. They're considering whether to consider him incompetent to stand trial, etc. They're tap dancing as hard as they can to keep this out of the news media and let this guy off. Maybe people who live in that area think that's ok, but I wouldn't.

We're considering taking a historic road trip through that area. I'd prefer to avoid it if it's filled with a lot of gun toting alt-right folks.

IMO any weapon should be locked up or have a trigger lock (or whatever they are called) in any house. When you know that you have a depressed person living in the same house, be s/he 13 or 93, it seems to me reckless and just asking for trouble not to lock it up. SMH. An ounce of prevention... Oh, well, c'est la vie et c'est la mort. Oh, how tragic for all of them.

I wonder if they have diagnosed the son with any psychological disorder and are medicating him? IANAD, but seems to me that medicating for psych disorders after brain surgery (I assume he had surgery) could be tricky, dunno. I do wonder what his current thoughts and day-to-day life is like -- remorse, anger, depression, calm, etc., etc. If he is not competent to go to trial, so be it, but I hope he is diagnosed as competent. If he is, I am almost certain that he will not testify.
Still hurting for those children.

The bullet skimmed across the teen’s brain, and he remains confused about what happened that night, the mother said. She also said it has become all too clear what she didn’t do:

She should have been better educated about his mental-health issues. She should have safeguarded him from going online. She should not have allowed a gun in a home with someone with mental illness. She should have listened to her instinct that something was off about him this time.

Yes. That's exactly what she should have done. It's what the next parent needs to do.

An in-depth article about the growing popularity of American Nazism in young folks. Very disturbing and a tragic amount of murder and mayhem involved. The article focuses on groups like Atomwaffen, the group that the young man was involved in before killing the Frickers.

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/all-american-nazis-fascist-youth-united-states-w519651

Arthurs told a different story. "It's all there specifically to kill people," he said. Sitting in a small interrogation room in his sweat socks, he explained to the cops that his roommates were "national socialists" and members of a neo-fascist group called Atomwaffen Division, German for "nuclear weapons." Russell had founded the group, which Arthurs – who'd recently converted to Islam – claimed had about 60 or 70 members nationwide. "Atomwaffen is a terrorist organization," he said. He'd taken part in online chats where Russell and the others discussed plans to bomb power lines, synagogues, even Miami's Turkey Point nuclear plant. "Brandon is literally somebody that has the knowledge to build a nuclear bomb," he said. "I'm not meme-ing about that," he added, Internet-speak for "****ing around."

The detective, striking a dubious tone, asked him why his friends would make bombs. Arthurs looked at him, dumbfounded. "Because," he said, "they want to build a Fourth Reich."

Good thing the Marines are doing this, but there are probably more extremists in the US military than this one suspect. It's almost as if some folks don't want anyone digging too deeply into these groups to find out how much violence and crime they're facilitating through social media.

I hope Buckley Kuhn Fricker's family applies some pressure to LE and news media to properly investigate and cover this horrible crime.

Teen Charged With Killing Couple Still Incompetent: Judge

Judge will review the case again in November to see how the defendant is progressing in his recovery.

Fairfax teen accused of killing parents of former girlfriend remains incompetent to stand trial, judge says

During Wednesday’s roughly three-hour hearing in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Judge Thomas P. Sotelo listened to testimony from five witnesses, including two clinical psychologists who have worked with the teen and three employees from the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center where he is being held.

The psychologists each suggested that brain damage the teen suffered after shooting himself have rendered him unable to fully understand trial proceedings and sufficiently assist his attorneys.
