GUILTY VA - Shannon Gore charged in death of infant, child abuse, Hayes, 2011

Can I report on hearsay if I identify it as such?

I have seen other threads with the disclaimer Local Gossip says...

Alright, local gossip says that she was in the ER the night she crawled up into the ceiling tiles because other female 'guests' at the regional jail gave her a few bruises. The story goes something like this, they asked who she was why she was there, she said "oh you don't know? I'm Monster Mom". After the ER visit and return back to jail she was then placed by herself for her own protection. She was moved from there this past Friday and he was moved Monday morning.

I don't really feel bad that she got a "few" bruises.

Can you imagine saying you were monster mom?

Under that scenario, I don't believe she would have had her purse with her.

Her using the term makes it seem like she's proud of it.

By Shannon's lawyer saying "There are pictures of a healthy child in what looks like a normal relationship with her parents. What switched, flipped to change that relationship is the big question mark in this case" -- does that mean he is admitting Sunshine doesn't have cerebral palsy / Down's syndrome, but is instead just suffering the effects of her abuse/isolation?

Bless you Jinxy. Thank you so much for your onscene observations and your local flavor. We so appreciate the updates. Glad to hear Sunshine is doing better. Poor little sweet pea.

Well her lawyer is going to say mental illness brought about the poor treatment of Sunny. The untreated mental illness brought on by Brians poor treatment of the mother of the child and not being allowed to care for her. After the murder of the other child Shannon could no longer function.

BS

I think Sunny was a witness to the death of the other child and they did not want her to tell. So they locked her away hoping she would die too. And she almost did. Thankfuly Shannon's mental health was well enoughe to poorly plan robbing someone she knew and trying to fence off very uncommon objects to a predictable place. That saved Sunny, Stolen Gold.

I wished we would know when BG and momster became a couple. They were engaged in 2008,the boy died in 2007 .This new information almost has me convinced Bg is not the dad of the first 2 children. He is the one "going to church" as far is we know.It would not be the first time a mother chooses a man over her children.Maybe she convinced her family the dad took the babies? I don't buy the hidden pregnancies and no birth certificate stories anymore.

I think by "healthy" he means she wasn't starved, caged and sitting in feces in those pictures.

Children with Down syndrome can certainly be healthy. Mine definitely is now. Down syndrome does not guarantee they will be unhealthy, it puts them at risk for certain things.

In pictures (or in person) my daughter would definitely be described as a very healthy, happy, vibrant, alert child with lots of personality and attitude. She just happens to have that extra chromosome too.

Princess Sunshine could not walk when she was found.

That wouldn't likely be from Down syndrome past age 3.

It could be from Cerebral Palsy. But, it is more likely from being caged.

I think the "Cerebral Palsy" may actually be simply the affects of her being caged... the name that the defendants gave it to help justify it in their minds.

CP is something far more difficult to diagnose at home. There are other possibilities for a diagnosis with those symptoms.

Down syndrome is generally much easier to identify with the physical features, although it does require a blood test to verify. I was 18 when my daughter was born and knew immediately when she came out. Down syndrome is generally readily visible to most anyone who is familiar with it.

I don't have a hard time believing she has Down syndrome and they knew that. It's pretty straightforward.

Cerebral Palsy is a broad diagnosis too, it has many different variations. Many times it is a catch all for unspecified defects of the child's brain, be they birth injury, neurological based issues and the brain with oxygen deprivation of some sort.
Also I can relay that it has been stated that Sunny is non verbal as per her physicians.

I think her not been able to work has nothing to do with cerebral palsy. From the way it was described, I envision she was sitting in that "cage" on bended legs (since she had pressure sores where her hills were pressing against her buttocks) so that could have led to her losing the ability to walk.
Regarding down syndrome, the parents could have easily figured that out, but authorities so far haven't confirmed she has it.

It is my understanding that the scenerio of her in the ceiling tiles and such was the Thursday they orginially took her in. Her treatment for 'bruises' was a day or so later. So you are very correct, for this visit she didn't have her purse. She was in custody and I can guess only had her clothing she was wearing.

My take on the lawyer's comment is he is going to do "whatever it takes" to save his client from an early death. He undoubtedly knows there is no excuse for what she has done, so he is going to ignore the truth and try to devise an alternate reality - one where for whatever reason the Gores didn't get prenatal care, a BC or ever take their children to a doctor, but the children were loved and cared for "normally" otherwise. We all know it is bull chit.

If Sunshine has Downs or CP he would be using it to his client's advantage (poor Shannon was just overwhelmed by the responsibility of caring for her disabled children). IMO the disabilities are going to turn out to be caused by abuse, starvation and neglect. It was previously said that Sunshine could walk before she was locked in the cage, now she can't. Sunshine is said (now) not to be verbal - another sign of long term neglect.

These poor children were born into the home of monsters - if the pregnancies where such a colossal "sin" the children could have been handed over for adoption - for some sick reason this didn't happen. I have never heard any church advocate torture and murder of an innocent child to make up for the mistakes of the parents, so it is safe to say this line of reasoning will not pan out. (Not to mention SG is also under investigation for stealing.)

Mr Smith you go right on thinking Baby Boy died from "natural causes" - I guess you need something to help you sleep at night, anyone with half a brain knows that failure to provide medical care is a crime and can be prosecuted, so good luck with that (not!).

Gold bullion brought this case to the light. Little girl is being called Sunshine, baby boy I am going to call Golden Boy.

If everything was 'normal' in that home then Mr. Smith should be able to provide names for the children, dates of birth and birth certificates, shot records, records of doctor visits and a death certificate. Come on Mr. Smith, show me that things were 'normal'.

If everything were 'normal' there should be an explanation for why Golden Boy was found hidden away, buried with no recognition that he had ever lived. When was the visit to the emergency room or last doctor's visit, when Golden Boy die?

Come on Mr. Smith let's sell a few of those pics to get money to pay for the defense. Show us the 'normal' family where the children were 'loved.'

I didn't mean to imply a child can't be healthy and happy with Down syndrome -- or with CP for that matter. Just that since the parents seemed to be blaming any physical problems Sunny has on the combination of these two issues, the attorney's statement seems contradictory. He seems to be admitting that her poor health (starvation, etc.) are from the parents' neglect, not due to CP or Down syndrome.

I think the attorney will be using some combination of the following BS defenses:

1) Sunny and the deceased baby boy were both born prematurely -- and mom didn't realize she was pregnant until she went into labor. She didn't avoid prenatal care on purpose. She has always had irregular periods, etc.

2) Both children were well cared for, but the defendants didn't want specific people to know about them (judgmental or abusive family members). Especially with their disabilities. So they hid their existence from those abusive people. Other people will be demonized as the mean ones, not these poor bewildered parents.

3) Both were born with disabilities/CP due to being premature, and Sunny also has Down syndrome. Baby boy died due to these disabilities/natural causes/SIDS and Shannon was devastated but soldiered on caring for Sunny.

4) Shannon bravely struggled to take care of Sunny, but two weeks before giving birth to her 3rd child Connor, she was so heavily pregnant she couldn't pick up/handle Sunny any more and confined her to the crib for her own safety. Then after giving birth 6 weeks ago, she experienced postpartum psychosis and everything went to hell in a handbasket. So Sunny was only confined/mistreated/barely fed for two months. And it is Brian's fault for not intervening and getting Shannon help when she lost touch with reality.

This is the direction I predict Shannon's attorney will take. And I think it is BS. I had a friend experience postpartum psychosis once (not PPD, which is different and doesn't involve a break from reality). The friend was asking me if her baby was the devil, was running away from her husband screaming that his eyes were evil, she was rolling on the floor, singing to herself, etc. When I tried to take her to the hospital she was flailing all over my car so I had to pull over and call an ambulance. Shannon couldn't have seemed normal for 6 weeks as she showed off baby Connor if she was having postpartum psychosis... and she couldn't have robbed someone and pawned the goods either. She is very calculating, not nuts, IMO.
