Can I report on hearsay if I identify it as such?
I have seen other threads with the disclaimer Local Gossip says...

Alright, local gossip says that she was in the ER the night she crawled up into the ceiling tiles because other female 'guests' at the regional jail gave her a few bruises. The story goes something like this, they asked who she was why she was there, she said "oh you don't know? I'm Monster Mom". After the ER visit and return back to jail she was then placed by herself for her own protection. She was moved from there this past Friday and he was moved Monday morning.

By Shannon's lawyer saying "There are pictures of a healthy child in what looks like a normal relationship with her parents. What switched, flipped to change that relationship is the big question mark in this case" -- does that mean he is admitting Sunshine doesn't have cerebral palsy / Down's syndrome, but is instead just suffering the effects of her abuse/isolation?

Under that scenario, I don't believe she would have had her purse with her.
My take on the lawyer's comment is he is going to do "whatever it takes" to save his client from an early death. He undoubtedly knows there is no excuse for what she has done, so he is going to ignore the truth and try to devise an alternate reality - one where for whatever reason the Gores didn't get prenatal care, a BC or ever take their children to a doctor, but the children were loved and cared for "normally" otherwise. We all know it is bull chit.
If Sunshine has Downs or CP he would be using it to his client's advantage (poor Shannon was just overwhelmed by the responsibility of caring for her disabled children). IMO the disabilities are going to turn out to be caused by abuse, starvation and neglect. It was previously said that Sunshine could walk before she was locked in the cage, now she can't. Sunshine is said (now) not to be verbal - another sign of long term neglect.
These poor children were born into the home of monsters - if the pregnancies where such a colossal "sin" the children could have been handed over for adoption - for some sick reason this didn't happen. I have never heard any church advocate torture and murder of an innocent child to make up for the mistakes of the parents, so it is safe to say this line of reasoning will not pan out. (Not to mention SG is also under investigation for stealing.)
Mr Smith you go right on thinking Baby Boy died from "natural causes" - I guess you need something to help you sleep at night, anyone with half a brain knows that failure to provide medical care is a crime and can be prosecuted, so good luck with that (not!).
I think by "healthy" he means she wasn't starved, caged and sitting in feces in those pictures.
Children with Down syndrome can certainly be healthy. Mine definitely is now. Down syndrome does not guarantee they will be unhealthy, it puts them at risk for certain things.
In pictures (or in person) my daughter would definitely be described as a very healthy, happy, vibrant, alert child with lots of personality and attitude. She just happens to have that extra chromosome too.
Princess Sunshine could not walk when she was found.
That wouldn't likely be from Down syndrome past age 3.
It could be from Cerebral Palsy. But, it is more likely from being caged.
I think the "Cerebral Palsy" may actually be simply the affects of her being caged... the name that the defendants gave it to help justify it in their minds.
CP is something far more difficult to diagnose at home. There are other possibilities for a diagnosis with those symptoms.
Down syndrome is generally much easier to identify with the physical features, although it does require a blood test to verify. I was 18 when my daughter was born and knew immediately when she came out. Down syndrome is generally readily visible to most anyone who is familiar with it.
I don't have a hard time believing she has Down syndrome and they knew that. It's pretty straightforward.
