VA - (Trigger warning) Explosive allegations made about Fairfax County, VA school system

  • #121
In Washington state you don’t need a parent’s permission to receive an abortion if you are underage. I am aware of this happening in the 1980’s in California. You get a ride, have the procedure done and tell your folks you are having a bad period and go to bed for a couple days. So is the issue the fact that a counselor assisted her? It seems to me that is where you would go for assistance if you couldn’t go to your parents.

Here is a breakdown by state: Abortion Laws by State - Center for Reproductive Rights
As we see from the article, Virginia is a non-protected state. In the state of Virginia you need parental/legal guardian written consent and in person. It's the law.

I wonder who signed the consent form and appeared in person. I'm pretty VSP, Fairfax County School Administration, and Virginia Attorney General already have the answer. Moo .. I do believe we will see charges being filed. I certainly hope the social worker is on administrative leave until this investigation is complete.

Do you need parental consent for abortion?

For minors under age 18, Virginia requires that an authorized representative (examples: a parent, grandparent, adult sibling or legal guardian) with whom the minor lives give permission (written and in person) for an abortion. A judge can excuse someone from these requirements.

If you are under the age of 18 and need help talking with your parents or seeking judicial bypass we can help.

The investigation into the allegations has been going on for over a month. I wonder how long it takes to get past "allegation" and determine facts. Seems like the allegations are living on and being repeated, but has any progress been made in the actual investigation? Or a deadline set to report findings?

From the article linked above your post:

  • FCPS has been ordered to submit records, policies, and communications related to abortion referrals and parental notification by Oct. 17.

I'm waiting to hear from Virginia State Police and Governor Youngkin. I'll reserve judgment until their investigation is complete. Moo ...

From the link, bbm:

The 61-page interim report concludes the teacher who made the allegations fabricated a disturbing narrative about the student abortion after she’d been disciplined for allegedly helping another student get a pregnancy test.

I just read the 61 page intern report. Interesting it focuses in Ms Perez. It does NOT disclose the school interviewed the public health nurse, FCP health nurse or the social worker involved. Mainly consists of FCS policies. It defines what schools "should do", does NOT document what actually happened.

From the report, the student was undocumented, homeless and placed with an "Uncle" who denies having "legal" guardianship. The student is listed as homeless status with school. The students parents are not located in the US. The student has since vanished.

Interesting the 61 page report doesn't address the discipline report on helping a student obtain a pregnant test, by Ms Perez. I hope the disciplinary report is released.

It's hard to give up a conspiracy theory, but I think this has been one from the start.

I fully believe the student received assistance in obtaining healthcare for her unwanted pregnancy. I don’t believe much else in these reports released. The school is doubling down on their denials. And now it feels the sequence of events has changed from what was previously reported (i,e., the timing of the pregnancy test accusation). I could be remembering wrong. I could also be misreading it now. 🙃

I look forward to seeing the results of the VA State Patrol’s investigation. Not that I think it will change any minds, regardless of their findings. Admittedly, I am not worried about needing to change my mind but I am willing to if evidence is released that indicates I should.

Hopefully Perez got booted from teaching at the school and whatever necessary discipline measures were/are being taken so she loses her teaching license.
imo

"The investigation spotlights a handwritten letter Perez provided to the blogger who first told her story. She says it came from the student describing the social worker’s help with an abortion, but investigators allege Perez wrote the letter herself, citing the identical way “ESOL” was written in the letter and in another document signed by Perez."

Local news video coverage including Perez's letter that she gave to "W.C. Dispatch" which started this fiasco claiming the then teen age student wrote it but when compared to her handwriting investigators say she wrote it herself.

The report says Perez was disciplined in May 2022 for the pregnancy test issue.
What timeline are you referring to?

Snip:

As explained below, the facts presently known to FCPS suggest the following:• CHS social worker Carolina Diaz did not encourage, facilitate, or pay for anystudent abortion.• Former CHS Principal Chad Lehman did not “cover up” any such allegations orrelated facts; he promptly investigated Mrs. Perez’s allegations in 2022 anddetermined that they lacked factual support.• Mrs. Perez’s claim that Mr. Lehman “didn’t do anything” to investigate herallegations is false and inconsistent with her own contemporaneous writtencommunications with Mr. Lehman.1 This Statement responds to Questions 3-4 of the Department of Education’s September 29, 2025, letter and toQuestions 7-9, 12-13, and 15-16 of Chairman Cassidy’s September 22, 2025, letter.Page 2 of 40• Because Principal Lehman’s 2022 investigation showed that Mrs. Perez’s factualallegations lacked factual support, there was no need for him to escalate the issueto FCPS senior Division leadership.• FCPS Superintendent Michelle Reid and other senior Division leaders did notlearn of Mrs. Perez’s allegations until after they were made public in August ofthis year.• In 2022, Mrs. Perez knowingly withheld relevant materials then in her possessiondespite being asked during Principal Lehman’s 2022 investigation if she hadadditional information to share.• Mrs. Perez appears to have knowingly procured a false statement from the formerCHS student (Student B) whom she claims obtained a school-funded abortion in2021.• Contemporaneous documents show that Student B was properly referred by Mrs.Diaz to the public health nurse and that Student B’s legal or de facto guardianwas “aware” of her pregnancy and abortion.• Mrs. Perez also appears to have manipulated the content of a statement sheprocured from another student (Student C) whom she claims was pressured byMrs. Diaz to obtain a late-term abortion.• Student C has reported that she was never pressured by Mrs. Diaz or others toobtain an abortion, and that the public health nurse clearly communicated thatparental consent would be required in the event Student C wanted to proceedwith an abortion.• Public statements by Mrs. Perez’s lead attorney, Steven Aden, claiming that Mrs.Diaz provided Student B with a “white envelope” full of money to pay for herabortion are not supported by any known facts, or Mrs. Perez’s own contentions.• Mrs. Perez prepared a complaint to Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares inMarch 2023 in which she specifically detailed her allegations of schoolfacilitated, school-funded abortions.• Evidence discussed herein suggests that Attorney General Miyares’s Office mayhave known of these allegations a year or more ago and declined (possibly forjurisdictional reasons) to investigate; we are not aware of any prior referral to theVirginia State Police for investigation.• Other evidence discussed herein appears to indicate that it is possible VirginiaGovernor Glenn Youngkin’s Office may have also known of these allegations fora year or more before calling for a State Police investigation.'
