VA VA- Unidentified 12-year-old abducted in Spotsylvania, 4 July 2013

  • #121
Maybe he got in trouble for leaving his bike (due to flat tire) and was walking back to get it. That would make sense why a parent would be upset. But why wouldn't they pick the bike up and take it? This is just so strange. I hope this young boy is safe. So scary.

More than 500 interviews were conducted Thursday by investigators, including residents of the neighborhood and others who contacted police, according to Capt. Jeff Pearce of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.

Officers would be in the neighborhood overnight working on the case, he said.

The case is being treated as an abduction after a woman told police that she saw the van pull aside the boy earlier in the afternoon as he had stopped beside his bike, pull him against his will into the van and speed off, Pearce said.

He said the boy was reportedly screaming and resisting, and that the van sped through two stop signs in the neighborhood, leaving in an unknown direction.

The 1:40 p.m. call kicked off hours of searching, and state police and the FBI were called in to help. A helicopter searched overhead, and crime scene tape enclosed an area on the subdivision’s main thoroughfare.

At a news briefing Thursday night, Pearce provided a more detailed description of the van. He said it was medium blue, with two doors opening on the rear. The door on the left had a tinted window; the right one did not. There was a primer spot on the right side and a decal was on the bottom left door.

The suspect was described as an Hispanic male, in his mid-20s or 30s, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, and about 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a black tank top and black cargo painter’s pants that were dirty and stained.

Meanwhile the boy was described as “very, very slight,” 5-foot-2 with brown hair in a Justin Bieber-style haircut. He was wearing a red-and-white striped shirt and blue cargo pants.

Now they are reporting the bike is black. I saw an earlier picture and the bike was clearly gray.

the article above #89 is now saying a child of 10-12 years old with long brown hair going down his back, I know that the witness is saying boy, but what if it was a girl on a boy"s bike,

To add to the confusion bdawk.

So was the boy riding the bike, got off and was walking when the man grabbed him? Wonder if the van was following him, or maybe even bumped him?

Good question. Alot of confusion with this one. Not the least of which is why nobody is missing this kid yet.

I had to read this again. The boy was not riding a bike, he was walking, and stopped to look at a bike that was laying on the ground.

I've read somewhere since then that it was possible he was ON THE BIKE..something about a neighbor that was interviewed said her babysitter thought she may have heard him riding the bike outside with a flat tire, prior to the abduction.

edited: sorry I didn't read before posting this, I see it was already clarified about the bike situation...my mistake...please disreguard this reply.

I don't think a parent would drive through two red lights. Once you had your kid in the car, there would be nothing to fear. If LE stopped you it would be easy to explain your child was grounded and out with no permission and you were doing a 'tough love' scenario. The cops would probably praise you if you could prove it was your child. JMO

I can't make up my mind if that is indicative of a non-abduction. The neighbor who saw him ride by on the bike, seemed to think no one knew who he was.

It's sad and scary that we still don't know the identity of this boy. I hope and pray that it was a parent grabbing an unruly child, but I fear it is an abduction.

Another possibility- a raging, run away foster child. If my 13 year old son were raging in the car, you can bet I'd run a couple of stop signs to get him home. Would explain some, but not the bike being left behind.

Still not convinced this isn't a fake story.

Since no child has been reported missing so far hopefully it was a domestic issue. Maybe the boy was late from coming home (again). Maybe his family had big plans for the day and they were suppose to have left already. Maybe the child always blew out his tires and the father as he was pulling up saw the blown tires and tells him your not taking the bike, now get in the car and a argument ensued. My Grandson at that age was always damaging his tires because he would ride on bannisters/curbs in the park. I'm just hoping this is the case. :please:

That's a good description of the van, and it's not as common as a white van. If this van is parked in a driveway, someone will spot it and report it.

If the child was not neurotypical and as such was prone to violent outbursts and the parent was alone, they might absolutely blow stoplights, if the kid was attacking the parent. I know children who must be physically restrained in a full body hug to be calmed. (I'm not talking about abuse, I'm talking about just holding the child tightly, to avoid injury and to provide comforting sensory input.)

The streetlights have been on for a long time now. I'm hoping this was a non-event because the other possibilities are frightening.

Oh gods. I know I shouldn't be laughing, but your question made me picture a Justin Bieber mullet. And, because this is the internet, I had to share the terrible mental image with others.
