WOW ! ! ! That is a lot of cars to go through. Those lame copes are not going through them.

Yeah, exactly. Just scoot the page around with your mouse, and it's friggin' UNREAL. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a GOLDMINE of evidence there. I hope that LE is seeing this case as a one in a million chance to REDEEM themselves on many levels, and so perhaps they'll look into JM Autowrecking . . . with a fine toothed comb, so to speak.

I found a video that shoes LE towing off the van. here (Unsolved Kidnappings Lead to New Search...)There's a good shot of it, but I wasn't able to get a still copy.

I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT...
But I did move the page around with my mouse....That is when I realized that the cops can be there for a year. lol
Molino can be out of business if they Yellow tape it as an investigation site.
Not that I care if he happens to be guilty of aiding that SOB.

Creepy! Tim Binder, a suspect in many Bay Area's missing girls cases had a van that looks just like one of Garrido's. Is it possible they knew one another? There is a picture of the van on Ilene's charley project page.

It's the same make and model, but the back windows are different.

JVM also showed a video clip of a compact car with a clear shot of the plates but I wasn't able to record it. Did anyone else see it?

I think it's the van they had towed because it was in the way. So, it would be the same one, I think.

Interesting ... that van looks to be older than the licence plates on it are. Seems it is probably a Dodge model from the 1960's.

http://www.allpar.com/trucks/vans.html

I think those plates had to have been issued between 1970 - 1982 if they are blue/yellow (not if black/yellow)

http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/plates/licenseplthistory.htm

I don't know that any of this is pertinent, but I am curious how long Garrido owned that van (of course it might not have been his either).

This is going way back, but if you go to his high school at classmates.com, someone started a discussion about him, and I found it really weird that it is a VERY short discussion. (I'm pretty sure if someone from our high school had been accused of this kind of crap there would be a ton of discussion about it, which really makes me wonder if ANYONE in that high school knew Phillip at all???) Anyway, one person asked, if they were referring to the Phil who drove around a Blue Chevy Supersport. Is that the car that his father says his mother gave him? If it was a brand new car, and it didn't get wrecked or something, I'd guess he drove that car a long time since it was brand new.

Heck, it appears to me like he has kept every car he ever had so I wouldn't doubt it's still around. I don't know what car he was given (I could be misremembering, but I thought his dad gave it to him).

On another note and to correct myself, I think that very old army green Dodge van does have black and yellow plates. I think that means it was licensed before 1970 and still has the original plates. That makes it more likely, since the van appears to be about circa 1966, that it was purchased new or at least when it wasn't too old. Although it could be older than '66.

I forget, can the old license plates in Cali transfer to a new owner?

I'm sure they are cataloging and researching these vehicles. I hope their descriptions and license plates could prove useful in cold cases - who knows, it's possible even if it is thin circumstantial evidence, something like that could provide just one more clue as to what else Garrido did. I can't imagine all of his crimes have already been found.

He seemed to own alot of vans !! I cant help but feel there is a reason he didn't sell these but keep them hidden away out of view. After all he was friends with a guy who owned a junkyard he could have easilly had his friend haul them away right?
Molino did report that the only times he was at the property was to tow a couple of PG's cars.
He did not say one car
seems PG knew just how far to push it; I imagine he did not want to raise any red flags by having
too many on his lot.
I wonder if those were dismantled for parts.
But he did seem to have too many vans...I hope LE can get at least one strand of hair form them,
about other girls missing.... :(

THAT IS VERY INTERESTING...

LOL! It does, huh?

From this article:http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-phillip-garrido5-2009sep05,0,3336769.story?page=1

Garrido received a new blue Oldsmobile as a graduation present in 1969, evidence, his father said, of how "spoiled rotten" his youngest son was. "Anything he wanted growing up, he got."

I guess I just assumed by the way the father said that, it sounded like it was his mom that gave it to him. Anyway if we are indeed tryng to tie Garrido to any of the earlier crimes/disappearances (early 70's), it's important to know what he was driving then.
Garrido himself confesses to doing things in his car as far back as 1969/70. And my guess is that was probably the car he was driving during the alleged rape of the 14 year old girl. It would be interesting to know how long he drove it for and what happened to it. If his Dad's memory is correct it was an Olds (Cutlass maybe?) but if the gal at classmates is right than it was a Chevy S/S. But both agree on the color blue. (Someone out there somewhere, must have seen this guy, he says he was "exposing himself" for cryin' out loud,..... wait......maybe no one was looking! LOL)

In the early 1970s, according the U.S Parole Commission, he was arrested twice for marijuana possession and placed on probation both times.

But his own court testimony shows, Garrido also began to act on his sexual compulsions, including public masturbation, exposing himself to children and peering into women's windows as they changed.

He was arrested in 1972 on suspicion of drugging and raping a 14-year-old girl in Antioch, a case dropped after the victim declined to testify.

Billy ... great post!

I think tracking down his vehicles is very important too. From the article, it does sound like Patricia arranged to give him the car. Shouldn't they be able to do some historical car registration investigating and find out all the cars he has owned and whether they were ever sold, even for scrap?

This is a small thing but those records would reveal who he purchased them from which could in turn place him in a particular place - I'm thinking like in Nevada for a purchase, although I think there is a slim chance of finding something like this that would connect to the time someone went missing or was murdered. Interesting to know what cars he got rid of also? Wonder if he kept so many of them either to protect evidence or to relive scenarios? I digress!

Thanks you for the humor break also. We probably really need that.

BTW... has anyone looked back at the Google aerial photos or the pics taken by LE to see if a big old blue car is there? I was shocked at how obvious the yellow van was in them.

I would think the respective DMV's would have that info., CA & NV. However, I don't know how far back they keep records. Or maybe his insurance companies would have that info.??? LE SHOULD be on it, but I just thought I'd throw the importance out there. I really can't figure out why someone didn't see this jerk(off) and report him back then. If they can figure out his whereabouts this way, with cars or sightings it might just lead to crackin' a case!

Too bad they didn't search the DMV records for a Yellow Dodge van within even 5 miles of the 1992 sighting. I can't help but think it was probably the only one in the area.

Interesting point. I wonder if they did and perhaps it was in someone else's name???? Or then of course, it came up one "Phillip Garrido" and THEY DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS A REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER!!!!!!!!:banghead:
