Verdict: GUILTY for both Millard and Smich of 1st degree murder #3

The fifth estate is doing a show on Tim. Dec 2nd on CBC. Not sure if this was posted here yet.

They had originally planned to do it tonight and pushed to to December 2. Just an FYI if anyone had set their timer for tonight and thinks they missed it somehow.

Here is an article that gives a few highlights of what will be covered in the Fifth Estate program tonight.

Thanks.. that is horrifying that there seems to be so much that police failed to follow through on. But yet some on WS seem to get in such a tizzy if a WS member might say anything to even remotely question an aspect of an investigation (any investigation, no one in particular). We are apparently supposed to just trust that police are all knowing, they've looked into everything possible, they have all the answers, they're just holding them 'close to their vest' - they *know* who the perps are, they just need enough evidence to bring cases to trial.

In reality, for whatever reasons, whether they don't have enough manpower for all of the crime that goes on nowadays, financial reasons, too many hands in the pot causing things to be missed, or other reasons like perhaps can't be bothered with certain types of cases, incompetence, laziness, etc. Whatever the reasons for things falling between the cracks in at least some cases, it seems it may be worthwhile to ask questions and not assume that all the things that we think are being done in the background are in fact being done.

What time is the fifth estate program on? TIA

I love the photo of Laura from the article. She was a true beauty. The photo of Wayne is also one I haven't seen before.

Their website says it's on at 9pm EST. But I asked my son to set it up to record for me, and he found it at 8pm in one place (listing it as 'new' and about the Bosma case), and at 9pm somewhere else, neither of which seemed to be called CBC. I'm disabled when it comes to the whole TV thing, but you had best check it out ahead of time with your own cable provider to make sure!

Fridays at 9 PM on CBC. Watch episodes online at http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/ | Send your story ideas to: [email protected]

Wow, this really sounds like it's going to be interesting. Would opening these things up and asking these hard questions not potentially create the possibility of a lawsuit being launched against police in that they conceivably may have been able to prevent some of the things that took place?

I've just set up the PVR for tonight's show.

Warning, this post contains tizzying.[emoji3] There are always people who feel LE don't to their job properly but there are some things that just aren't actionable. Correct me if I'm wrong but DM was questioned about the disappearance of LB and the last phone calls. He could have said any number of things: she called me for a booty call, she wanted my grandmother's cookie recipe or she called said she never wanted to see me again. Those aren't actionable. I'm not up-to-snuff on the LB investigation but she was fragile and I don't see any red flags that LE ignored information pointing to DM. LE can't follow up on leads that aren't there. Family and friends like to complain sometimes that LE didn't do enough. Gut feelings like "I told LE that they should look at so and so..." is not actionable but "she told me he threatened to hurt her" "he beat her around a couple of times" is. Like it or not there are warrants and other mechanisms to protect rights and freedoms. Like I said, I don't know everything about the LB investigation so I'm sort of speaking in generalities.

Didn't CN complain that she and her friends were being harassed for a statement? LE couldn't make her talk and therefore that lead was cold until other evidence led them back to her.

It's when LE is relentless after someone without following the proper channels that opens them up to liability.

I think this article was written to spark interest and controversy. It quotes a lot of instances where LE never said anything about_______... Well, LE doesn't have an obligation to say anything and that doesn't mean they didn't investigate. That quote from ABro "one question is, how was the death of Wayne Millard deemed a suicide?" makes it sound as if she meant, how could LE possibly deem his death suicide when it was obvious otherwise. But the simplicity of her question is fair.

I guess we will find out tonight.

All JMO.

Well, I'm watching the Fifth Estate and just as I think I am finally going to see Igor we switch to an Amber Alert. Not complaining one little bit. I can only laugh at the timing.

On the lookout for a missing little girl in my area now. Glad the system works!

Someone needs to find the clip of what we missed.... I thought the same thing - Igor! Finally! And then a red screen....lol.

Watching the home videos made me so sad. Actually hearing Tim talk and sing and laugh..ughhhh my heart just aches for this family!

I was shocked to find out that Sharlene didn't know how Tim was burned until the trial. I'm trying to think back to when I knew about the Eliminator and having a hard time trying to put a place and time to it.

I can't imagine how distressing that would be for the family. I always thought they knew.

I expect they knew as much as we did. It was intimated early on in the investigation. One thing in that show I noticed was SSs father in law talking about how scared he was at the sight of a stolen truck......amongst lots of stolen vehicles. What was so sickening at that point before anyone knew what happened to Tim?

We heard from SS's father in law. Surprising. Also an anonymous female friend from the past who said that DM had a God Complex and felt he was untouchable. He had parties with hundreds of people attending. his events. He did different types of drugs. They also showed more of Josie I didn't want to see (blurred out). I had only seen the cleaner ones I guess.

The program really showed up the shortcomings of the Toronto Police - and rightly so. It's already been discussed here, how SL did everything in his power to inform them about his suspicions, and gave them Laura's last contacts, and he even met with DM himself, which could have put himself in danger, but it seems nothing much was done. The guy whose bike and trailer were stolen, told LE that there was probably video footage of the heist, and where to find it, but never heard a thing back from them. And did they even check on Wayne's "suicide" to see if it was feasible that he shot himself?

Of course, none of these failures to follow through, would have come to light, if the suspect wasn't a possible serial killer.
