BBM~ :floorlaugh: You've asked this before! Do you think she snapped? Something triggered to go East (Utah) instead of North (AZ) on Jun3 9pm-ish. It was Travis- she was obsessed with him and she tried to go under the radar, but made huge mistakes along the way. moo
This was my response to the original poster a bit upthread:

Perhaps she just wanted Ryan to "think" she was coming straight away (part of her alibi), when she knew all along that she would blame her late arrival on getting lost/being an airhead/falling asleep in the car--and of course she couldn't call him because her phone died/she lost her charger/had crappy cell reception.

Jodi was headed to Travis's with murder in mind, but she didn't know exactly how much time she'd spend at his home before she killed him. She couldn't very well tell Ryan that she was taking a detour to Mesa, and there was no other way to explain her whereabouts, so WHAT'S A GIRL TO DO? Tell Ryan that she's on her way and she'll see him soon, then shut off the phone, drive to Mesa, murder Travis, then be on her way to Utah and tell a bunch of lies to Ryan.

I am very curious about this guy, Matt McCartney. Has anyone ever met him? Does he even exist? It's like he's a phantom. Sorry if this has been asked and answered somewhere.

I could not believe it when he said that!

Was he trying to say to the jurors? - this is not personal, so don't judge Jodi just because I can't stand her 90% of the time. :floorlaugh:

I couldn't believe that JA chuckled like she did when he said it. It was truly a dysfunctional moment.

When Jodi was arrested, I would guess that she probably had a net worth somewhere between -$20,000 to -$50,000. She owed money to her parents, her grandparents, Travis, Darryl, and no telling who else. Her mother said that she charged her $3,000 mortgage payments to her credit card. This must be counting paying for food, electricity, and other things because I think Darryl said the total mortgage payment was $2800. Her mother said that she had declared bankruptcy before. She sure was the businesswoman.

okay - no cell phone here, yeah, I know... probably the only one on this forum who STILL has ONLY a landline!! :floorlaugh:

But was wondering if the might be an EMAIL ALERT anywhere to sign up for??

TIA!!

:seeya:

BBM
You're not alone, I've never had a cell either (and if fortune continues smiling upon me, I never will. lol).

I wasn't saying it was NEEDED to view/post on WS, just that for me personally I thought it was easier/more convenient than using a browser. Lots of peeps here actually have/use it. :)

MOO

oh I know. I was just stating that for people who may not know. :)

I guess it's not politically correct to state this but really, this woman had been living on her own since she was 18 and at age 28, she had all of $750.00 to her name? Geez...Talk about NOT taking responsibility for herself as an "adult"!

Sorry if I offend someone who has found him/herself in a bad situation but I don't think I've had that little money since I started working part-time.

moo
She is different than someone who hasn't faced true hardships. Some people just don't save money when they are young...they figure that there is no need to.

I'm still catching up but I had to comment on the phone ringing in court.....

It caught me and KN off guard...LOL

But I focused on 'what" was playing....the particular ring tone.

I don't know the whole song but it says something like "light u up like it's dynamite"....

When I heard that I instantly thought of Travis.....he was trying to tell us what's going to happen in the days to come....

After Jodi is lit up with the first degree murder conviction....."we're going to dance all night".

I know I am.

She didn't plan on lingering around for as long as she did at Travis's house. She did expect to arrive later than the time frame she told Burns, but not that late. I believe she planned on telling the "I got lost" story from the get go. It's part of her coverup. We know that she planned on turning off the cell phone for at least 10 hours (the time it would take to get in and out of Arizona as quickly as possible). She knew this cell phone issue would look incriminating. If she had told Burns that she'd be arriving at 2PM instead, she'd eventually have to account for the missing 10 hours. Detectives would have noted that this cell phone time gap gives her enough time to ghost her way in and out of Mesa for the murder. To help get around it, she tells Burns that she'll be arriving at 9:00AM -- this gives impression that she is 1) innocent of premeditation and 2) that her original cover story of getting lost in Nevada is true (hence the reason she couldn't find her cell charger or buy a new one to charge her battery). Basically, the "I got lost" story was concocted to explain the cell phone, and telling Burns of an earlier arrival helps to corroborate that as her DELAY is proof that she got LOST. Get it?

I'm sorry. There's nothing for me to "get." I guess it's my fault for not writing out the conclusions I had already come to for the ONE question I'd been asking before. But we hashed this out in another thread a few days ago, and I came to the conclusion that she'd planned to kill at 4am, but Zach was home.

Since Zach was home, the killing was out of the question until he was gone, and the tired Jodi wound up sleeping till the afternoon. At that point, she had a fully awake Travis that she had to figure out how to get into a vulnerable position.

Had Zach not been home, she wouldn't have been "that late" getting to Ryan and she could have explained it away a lot better.

But yes, this was a stickler of a question for me for sure a few days ago.

I have wondered if an underlying hostility might exist by the jurors toward the defendant due to her belligerence, lies, dragging out the testimony by being cagey and uncooperative with the prosecutor, etc.

They will probably be more mature than me, but I would be miffed at her from the get-go due to the above behavior. And I think that would affect my point of view. Who likes being lied to? It's insulting that she tried to play them as though they are peons.

I bet they stoop to using the gm in the sentencing phase if they come back with M1

I still think JM should have highlighted the fact that JA asked during her interview if her $200 check to TA was going to be cashed. As if she had nothing else to worry about.

$200 .... Nope. Wtheck.

Some of these jurors on the extended After Dark show don't understand the difference between a premeditated rage killing and manslaughter/heat of passion. Scary.

Well, apparently he does. JM alluded to the fact that he deposed him. He teased JA when she was on the stand, inferring in a round about way that he was going to call him as a witness which of course never happened. He made a few comments something like "well you think MM would say blah blah blah" and "he would never betray you?" blah blah blah. It was odd because we never heard a peep from the guy.

Don't feel it's wise to get high hopes as to the verdict, past one's have indicated such and rather anyone thinks "they know" this jury doesn't matter, no one does. My opinion regarding this trial has been the total opposite of my "norm", and I'm just one person.

It will be what it is, and could be a hung jury, who knows.. wouldn't be a surprise to me and that is.....jmo

I hope you are wrong. I think the FCA trial rocked us all.

If Juan Martinez says that he interviewed MM (and he did), then I believe he exists. ;)

I'll say it louder for you.

Throw out the sex tapes....throw them out !!!

I totally understand why you would like them thrown out, but I have to say I am so happy that tape survives. If not, once again JA's lies would be unopposed. She spent a long, long time in front of this jury attempting to project an idealized image of a girl wronged. She didn't want the sex, she felt degraded, she was only trying to "cheer or sooth him" with her compliance. That tape was irrefutable evidence she was as engaged and vested with the sexual relationship as he was.

YES! No backbone to the defence. I didn't expect this. It was weak. He offered some alternate possibilities but that's it. Nurmi didn't paint a strong portrait or picture anywhere.

I think he did what he needed to do with what he had. A fair trial is what his defendant deserved. He had witnesses, He had Jodi's story. What else did he have to work with His client is a class A liar. I don't think Nurmi could make any of it right nor could Wilmott. He can't make a guilty person appear innocent without making himself and co-council look like complete idiots. Now it is in the jurors hands. What an amazing 2 days.
