Vigil set for Haleigh Aug 10th - Balloon release Aug. 17. for Haleigh's 7th Birthday

  • #21
Haleigh should be celebrating her 7th birthday.

She should have had her kindergarten graduation.

She should have started 1st grade.

She should have had the chance to make new friends in 1st grade and to have a best friend, someone she would sit with and play with at recess every day.

She probably would have either lost her two front baby teeth or would be close to losing them by now, she might have even had the nubbins of her permanent teeth showing.

She should have a cake with seven candles and her presents to open, not balloons released in her memory. :(

JMHO.

A simple "Thank You" for this isn't enough...this brought tears to my eyes. :(

:waitasec: I wonder why they would have a vigil for Haleigh today? What is different today than it has been the past 18month? We all know she is missing and/or murdered. So why the vigil? Why not have it on her birthday?

Snipped & BBM

Probably because today is the day that marks 18 months that HaLeigh has been missing. There have been other vigils on "milestone" dates.

The balloon release is on her birthdate, just like last year. Balloon releases are often used for missing children/people and have been used at such events as International Missing Children's Day:

To commemorate International Missing Children’s Day on 25 May, participating countries will release balloons displaying photos of missing children from around the world in the hope that someone, somewhere, will recognise them.

The Hope & Hearts Run:
Do we need to bring our own balloons for the balloon release?

The balloons are provided by Missing GRACE Foundation at the event. We blow them up and provide Sharpie pens to write messages to your babies on the balloons.

And many individual balloon releases, most recently Kyron Horman.

I am glad there is going to be events for HaLeigh. It keeps her name in the media (for something positive and to do with HaLeigh and HaLeigh alone)! And why shouldn't she be honored and have her birthday celebrated? She should be home celebrating her birthday and getting ready to blow out her candles! Some of you do not like one side of her family or the other. This is NOT about them - this is about HALEIGH!

That picture is heart wrenching! Can there be many things sadder than the loss of a child? Maybe people lying about where she is???

Haleigh Cummings Vigil tonight, August 10 at the First Baptist Church of Welaka at 6:30 pm

Grandmother Says Family Is Holding Onto Hope
POSTED: 11:18 am EDT August 10, 2010

"Snip" http://www.wesh.com/r/24577723/detail.html
PALATKA, Fla. --
Tuesday marks 18 months since Haleigh Cummings vanished from her Putnam County home.

Her father's family will hold a vigil Tuesday night at the First Baptist Church in Welaka.

I think a vigil is a wonderful community activity and if it helps those in need for whatever reasons, GREAT.

What I cannot get out of my mind today, 18 months after I first saw the Amber Alert on tv in FL--is what do the parents of her classmates, friends, etc say to their own children? How or why are they secure. I'd be glad to participate in anything to honor Haleigh, but right now--I'd think I'd be organizing a march on city hall. ENOUGH ALREADY. jmo

For the record I don't have a problem with Haleigh being remembered and honored in special meaningful ways by anyone..
I do have a problem with the Cummings Clan showing up at a church holding a vigil, still pretending she was abducted 18 months ago and claiming they don't know where she is or who is responsible.......PEOPLE OF THE LIE... All of them...JMHOOTS

Haleigh, wherever you are , just know that you are missed and loved by many, many people. Some of us have never even met you, but we think about you every day . Yes, you should be home to celebrate your birthday, and start school in a couple weeks, and if there was any way on this earth that would make that happen, I'd be first in line to volunteer . The vigils, celebrations, whatever, should be able to happen without others condemning certain family members. Yes, we all know what we would've done differently, but you can't go back in time . Regardless, TN and GGS are missing their grandaughter and I can't begin to imagine the pain they feel inside .If it helps them get through that day, then I pray that it will help them get peace . I stopped posting for awhile because I was not accusing either biological parent in this case and since I wasn't , my comments were very unpopular, however we are all entitled to our opinion and thats all I am stating . I respect others opinions also even if I don't agree with them . We all want the same thing . Justice for this precious little girl .

Why not have it on her birthday? TN said she was going to talk to Merchant a week or so ago, after someone's hearing. Either Tommy or Ronald's. I wonder what she and Merchant talked about?
Maybe I am just overly suspicious of the Cummings family.

I am quoting myself. Maybe I came across the wrong way, I am in no way
condemning any family member for Having a vigil. Not Haleigh's family nor anyone.
I have no problem with anyone having a vigil for a love one.
I was only wondering if TN got any news from LE regarding Haleigh and maybe that news is what led them to want to have the Vigil tonight. I had thought they would of had a vigil or some type of Celebration of life on Haleigh's Birthday.

No, no , I was not saying you or anyone in particular at all . I dont understand the reason for tonight either as I would have thought it would've been on her birthday too .

I know what you are saying MADJGNLAW, I know that I would rather celebrate my loved one's birthday instead of the very day that she was reported missing. I'm hoping that this vigil will stir something in someone's heart and conscience and just maybe that someone will finally come forth and tell the truth and let Haleigh be put to rest in a respectful way.

This is only a guess - regarding why the vigil is tonight (the 18th month milestone) vs on HaLeigh's birthday: I'm thinking that a vigil is a bit more of a somber event. There are usually tears and it's sad.

Releasing balloons for HaLeigh's birthday is something that can be considered more a "celebration" for her birthday since balloons are something that you would see at a child's birthday. There are a lot of children in the family (both sides) that can feel like they are still celebrating HaLeigh's birthday by releasing balloons on her birthday - even while she is not there. It has to be very hard for the young kids with her gone.

Granted, no event is going to be a "happy" event with HaLeigh missing. But perhaps that is the thinking? I really am just guessing. Maybe there is no reason at all, maybe that's just how it worked out?

I hope the vigil went well tonight and all of HaLeigh's family was there praying for her.

I wonder if the Sheffields showed up to that vigil?

I believe Haleigh is safe in heaven. No tears, sorrow, or pain. She is in Glory!

The balloon release is for those who loved her that are here on earth.
My heart hurts for those that loved Haleigh, especially her momma.

I pray they find her murderer...

No one from that side of the family was there. :(

I was wondering that after I watched the video footage titled "Moms Unite For Haleigh Vigil" and didn't see Crystal in the video footage, thought I could have missed her. Diena Thompson was there, that is one of the moms they are referring to.
There are 2 videos, the other is titled "Family Holds Vigil for Haleigh".
Link to story below and links to video is there, too.

Vigil held for Haleigh Cummings

WELAKA, Fla. -- The family of a missing Putnam County girl says they don't believe she is dead.

Haleighs grandmother isn't giving up hope. She won't accept that her granddaughter isn't coming home. "We believe Haleigh is alive. Her daddy loves her and no one will stop looking for her," said her grandmother Teresa Neves.
