Did anyone notice in mentioned Thurs or Fri he gave our Social Service workers mask. We have NO as in Zero PPE in rural VA for our unpaid volunteer rescue squad, we don't have a paid service,

Finally, the Richmond Times Dispatch speaks out... models and CONCERN of wide spread transmission, highlights lack of test, and preparedness.

Virginia likely has more COVID-19 cases than state numbers suggest. This is why.

As of Monday, 24,521 people in Virginia had been tested for the coronavirus and 2,878 tests had come back positive, confirming infection.

Virginia falls in the middle of the country when comparing how many COVID-19 tests have been completed — placing 23rd out of 50 states and the District of Columbia, in spite of being the 12th most populous state in the country, according to an analysis of data reported by the COVID Tracking Project and the World Population Review. North Carolina, for example, had gotten results back on 40,045 tests and Maryland had gotten 29,617 test results back as of Monday.

Virginia Hospital Associate release dashboard, number on ventilators, number awaiting testing and no of hospital that will run out of PPE/critical supplies within the next 72 hours. We are already at 27% usage on ventilators with few days til April 20th peak. Governor refused to even acknowledge the Washington model, you know the one Bill and Melinda Foundation is funding, yes, the one the WH uses.

What in the SAM HEdoubleL can we do as Virginians.

@Simply Southern (insert sarcasm) we could always go golfing!

Yes, but I've chosen to spend my time today, firing off emails with links to the governor's press conferences, articles from Richmond Times, and all the information I can find.

We are in serious trouble in the rural communities. Governor hasn't done anything to help with testing except to praise Sentra his old stomping grounds.

Media exposures is out only hope and NONE of our legislators in the western part of the state will step up.

Never thought Virginia would turn its back on the taxpayers.

Lol....

It's really odd, the numbers are the same except for a zero.

Listening to him now. More of no information. Now blaming the federal government. When they ask aout what support for Northern VA, where 45% of cases are. He answered with the mayor iof DC was working on DC. No answer about northern Virginia.

My blood pressure goes up every time he's on TV.

MOO....

Mine too! He makes my blood boil. Of course he will blame the federal government. It's all come down to a blame game. IMO

Thanks good article and explains models well.

All models changed based on the previous weeks trend. The original model from Washington University was based on the previous two weeks with NO social distancing. After two weeks the model formular was revised to reflect a greater impact of social distancing. As each states closed schools, stay home orders, and closing businesses, their model projections changed with in 24 hours. So far WU model is tracking right on target. You can click on a date at the bottom of each graft, it will give each days projection or the previous projection and actual.

I cannot wait for the UVA model, those folks are amazing as well. MOO..I think the UVA model is compete and they are tracking for accuracy prior to releasing.

Replying to my previous post.

I did notice more national coverage of Northam, after MANY of us retirees fired off emails for three days. Unfortunately, they didn't address his lack of preparedness, but choose to feature the mask our prisoners made for him.

The article has a link to an IHME, that reflects current beds available. The model is a little different than the one we be been lookng at.

Coronavirus ‘Hot Spot’ Prince George’s County Prepares for Surge

The county is preparing for "a surge in the next couple of weeks" by making more hospital beds available, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said in a press conference Thursday. But concerns remain over the ability to meet the need for critical care in intensive care units and with ventilators, health officials said.

Virginia ABC closes a dozen stores in NOVA

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority announced Thursday it's temporarily closing down 12 stores in the Northern Virginia area starting Monday.

ABC officials said as the region continually sees some of the highest rates of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state throughout the crisis, staffing has dwindled and operations aren't sustainable.

UPDATE: The Virginia Department of Health is introducing enhancements to our COVID-19 reporting structure. The count of new cases on Sunday, April 12 may be underestimated. The report on Monday, April 13 will return to normal procedures, including all cases identified by 5 pm the previous day. This effort will enable VDH to provide more detailed data on COVID-19 in Virginia moving forward.
