Last seen at her family’s home in Middletown Springs, Vermont on Feb. 8, 1991, Wilbur was in the custody of the state at the time of her disappearance. She was living with a foster family in the Rutland area but received a weekend pass to visit her biological family in Middletown Springs when she went missing, Vermont State Police said in a statement.

It is believed that Wilbur left on her own accord. Over the years, there have been unconfirmed reports of her living in Florida, according to Vermont State Police.

As recently as the spring of 2012, information was found suggesting Wilbur may have been arrested in Florida, Vermont State Police noted.

“Heide’s family believes that she moved to Florida and has been living there for years,” Vermont State Police said. “A family member has also reported that they believe they saw her at Disney when they were on vacation.”

In 1991, she went missing in Vermont; 33 years later, case is still cold

This week marked the 33-year anniversary of the disappearance of 16-year-old Heide Wilbur in Vermont.
