Another local article. I find it a stretch to link this disappearance with Ethel's. This is really up and to the east, and while the drive is possible, why would Hutto have gone to VT? It's hunting season, lots of people from all over trying to get a bear, etc. I would think the two cases are unrelated, though may involve a stranger. What made me wonder, though, was that the FBI was quick to get involved and assume foul play, despite it appearing otherwise. I feel really bad for her children, all in from out of state to help and wait. Hopefully, this will end well.

I agree with krazyfingerzz. It seems like a stretch for the same suspect wanted in Ethels case to go all the way to Vermont..but the fact that FBI is involved (especially so quickly!) makes me think that they have some suspicion of that.

Police Look For New Clues

The search continued all weekend for a grandmother in Sheffield who police say was abducted from her home and they are asking the public for leads.

Police say 78-year-old Pat O'Hagan was kidnapped from her home on Route 122 last Friday. On Saturday ATV clubs from across the state scoured the mountainous terrain around Sheffield and Wheelock looking for evidence that may help police crack the case. More than 100 ATVs participated in the search.

"We have access to trails, we can go way back off the trails, we can go way back off the mountains in case somebody has done something with her up there or whatever," said Keith Smith of Sheffield.

One of the biggest public events in Sheffield in recent weeks was the annual Sheffield Field Days on Labor Day. Police want anyone who was at that event to give them snapshots, home video, or even cell phone photos. They're not saying exactly how the photos*may*assist them in the O'Hagan case.

Friends of another missing woman say any clues from the public may help O'Hagan's family avoid a lifetime of wondering. "Seventeen years is a long time, but it's just like yesterday for a lot of us," said Lisa England. England and her husband have spent nearly 20 years wondering what happened to their friend Audrey Groat.

"We kind of know what we think is the worst, but we can't prove it," Steve England said.

The Englands called police when Groat didn't pick up*her daughter up from their house in August of 1993. The Northfield woman is presumed dead; the victim of a homicide, but her body has never been found.

Now, the*case of another missing Vermont woman, Sheffield grandmother Pat O'Hagan, hits close to home for the Englands. "It brings you back to that day," Lisa England said.

Vermont State Police*say O'Hagan was forcibly snatched from her home on Route 122. Her family says she was not wealthy and was a single widow. They don't know who would want to target the popular and outgoing grandmother. Detectives and the FBI are now piecing together her travels, moving their operation this week from Sheffield to St. Johnsbury."

It's been 10 days since a Northeast Kingdom woman was reported missing, and still no sign of her. Police say they believe Pat O'Hagan, 78, was abducted from her home.

Tuesday, Vermont State Police refused to answer whether they are terming the case of the popular Sheffield grandmother a "search" or a "recovery effort" at this point. But the O'Hagan mystery has the family of another missing person wondering if they will ever find closure themselves. "I just can't close that door," Amy Currier said.

I wonder why police believe she was 'abducted from her home' versus her merely going for a walk and becoming disoriented, or going for a walk and being abducted from that point. Seems VERY unusual to abduct a senior from her own home. Even the family suggests there was nothing of value and no reason she would be targeted. I wonder if there are signs of a struggle in the home.

A candlelight vigil was planned Thursday for Pat O'Hagan, who missed a rug-hooking session she'd planned to attend Sept. 11 and is now believed to have been abducted from the home where she lived by herself in Sheffield, a place so small it has no stores or stoplights...

For now, ground searches have been called off barring any new leads, said Sgt. Tara Thomas, a spokeswoman for the Vermont State Police, which has been joined in the investigation by FBI agents. But the investigation remains "aggressive and active," she said.

"We're following up on a ton of information and interviews," she said. "When you talk to one person, that leads to one or two more people, and we're following all those leads."

Again, nothing really new, though the award is now up to $20,000. I was hoping that she went off for a vacation she forgot to mention (My neighbor did that. There were search boats in my backyard, they printed all her personal information in the paper, and a few days later, she came back and had no clue what happened. Her relatives thought she'd sounded suicidal.) I guess, though, that they must have some evidence of an abduction and whether or not her cards are being used. It doesn't appear that that's happening.
