WA - 3 children, ages 13, 9 and 7, among 5 killed inside Fall City home, 15 y.o. in custody - 21 October 2024

The state is particularly interested in those materials obtained on Oct. 29, because KCSO was not permitted to observe defense counsel or their agents as they spent hours in the residence, and a comparison of the photographs taken in the front entryway of the residence, as well as from the boys’ and girls’ rooms before and after their presence there suggests that they exceeded the scope Certification and Motion to Compel Discovery permitted by the Court’s order,” Brookhyser wrote. <modsnip: copyright> MORE AT LINK…

ETA: Two days after the "unsupervised search" on 10/29 by Parker and co-counsel Molly Campera, they filed a notice to the court that they were withdrawing as counsel for the 15-year-old. His defense is now being handled by Attorney Kristen Gestaut with the Obsidian Law Offices in Seattle. Not a good look by these two public defenders. JMO

Not a good look for him, certainly.

Just an idea to throw outside the box..
He may have been a sharp kid and figured it out. The vast majority of people use a loved ones bday or significant date as a 4 digit code.
I mean, he could have tried a bunch of bday, or anniversary combos and figured it out.
Or overheard a conversation talking about it.
Saw dad put the code in from a side eye.
Little ears and eyes see everything. And if he was planning something, murder in the 1st requires aforethought, maybe he was working on getting the code.

Also, it's not unreasonable in what seemed like a conservative family with the propensity to see the need for a gun for personal protection, that the eldest son would be given access for protection in case of an intruder. He would be in charge of protecting the family traditionally. If 15m has demonstrated safe gun handling skills, practices use, and has been a generally well adjusted individual, I don't think most families that would tend to be part of this demographic would ever think twice about trusting him with it. That adds up too.

I would almost bet that the answer to this comes our later. The 11f knows why he has it. Either it was a secret or dad gave it to him.
Maybe, but I doubt it. I think 11f would have said that right out of the gate, it would have been part of the natural flow - after saying her brother was the only one, other than her Dad, that knew the combo.

Maybe she did- we don’t have a transcript of her interview I don’t think-

Serious allegations made by the State, is that why they withdrew?

To be fair, other than the few words published, we really don't have any idea what all she has said to those interviewing her. To me it's equally possible that either dad gave him the combo because he showed himself to be trustworthy, or, he snooped around and found it, and the surviving sister knew about it.

A box, even with a combination, is not a safe gun storage. Period. It is elementary safety.

Gun boxes can be perfectly safe if used properly - and we do not know how he got the code- only he was the only one who knew it -

For one, a gun box can be stolen and transported. I am in the same corner as you, I live in WA where half of the people hunt, and since I eat meat, it would be hypocritical to protest gun ownership. But can we mind safety? if the perp didn’t have a gun that day, his family would have been alive…

I prefer the biometric lock boxes for safety- the simpler 4 digit code ones with bright red numbers make it easier for others to see the code, same with keys, kids often know where the keys are stored-

15 yrs ago I had a close family member lose their middle child as a toddler due to an unsecured hand gun, the child shot himself in the head at home- and all the other children saw the aftermath and grew up without their sibling, and the parents never recovered fully- beyond tragic and traumatic- AND completely preventable I’m acutely aware of the need for gun safety-

In this case I’m not going to blame the victim, he had his gun secured- obviously the boy accessed 2 weapons and used one of them, I’m more curious where the second gun came from, the one he staged with his brother-

Regardless of how the accused accessed the family gun, it does not negate or change the fact that he stands accused of using the weapon to viciously murder his parents and siblings and engaged in an elaborate coverup, which to me shows a cold premeditation that I've not seen in such a young defendant before.

The responsibility of these deaths fall on the 15m Defendant IMO. The 13f is lucky to be alive and able to work with LE in figuring out what went on in that home that day/night, not that it will ever make any logical sense.

Yes all true. I was thinking, if 11f did say her brother figured out the combo on his own. The previous defense team, likely wouldn’t have insisted 13m was the one who murdered the family.

With the States recent allegations, the case is already starting out badly. Hopefully the new team provides a more realistic defense. He is entitled to good legal counsel.

True every Defendant is entitled to a competent and vigorous defense, it's our Constitutional Right. Thank you for reminding me that is was an 11f that survived and it was the 13m that the 15 yo Defendant is accusing.

Wow, it is already a bad and tragic case no matter the outcome. :(

I don't think there will be further hearings until April 2025 to determine if the State is going to charge AH as a Juvenile or as an Adult.

I am linking the AA under spoiler, I am not posting because it does contain disturbing info. :(

If she has always been home-schooled, then it would probably be best not to change that routine. Hopefully there is a family member who can provide a home schooling environment for her.
According to the AA, the Maternal Grandmother has supervision/custody of the surviving 11f. I can't think of a better place that I would like to be than at my G Ma's home for comfort and security.

I am always interested in the "back story". What happened? What triggered this rage? Had there been an incident that created this reaction? Could intervention have made a difference here? We don't know.

I'm thinking the backstory is overcontrolling parents, down to being told who he could be friends with, and possibly in trouble for watching p o r n. I think the p o r n comment was actually about him, and not his brother. All MOO

It's sounds like they were very controlling parents from various things I've read. Upthread there's been discussion that he had "gotten into “a lot of trouble” for failing some tests", and now this...

family insiders told DailyMail.com that their idyllic existence had a dark side, with the ultra-religious parents imposing a strict schedule on their five children and having extremely 'high expectations' of them.

The source described how the family maintained a small tight-knit circle and had caused some bad feeling in the community over the summer after ordering their eldest sons to stay away from the children of LGBTQ families living nearby.

'Mark found out that the boys had made friends with those kids and insisted they didn't see them again. Everyone was quite upset about it.'

Interesting that he had "gotten into a lot of trouble" recently when his lie to the 911 Operator was this:

He told 911 operators his younger brother shot his family and himself after "he had been caught looking at p o r n o graphy the night before, and that he was about to get in a lot of trouble," according to court docs.

Why even tell 911 that? I just find it interesting that the surviving sibling said he'd gotten into "a lot of trouble" recently... then the same words are used with 911, only about "P", and not failing school tests. And getting into a lot of trouble is NO reason to take out the entire family. Sounds like he went for them all, and not their pets, since they are looking for foster their pets out (saw it stated upthread).

It's almost like he knew there would be a digital investigation on the all the electronic devices in the home and that investigators would sure enough, find that content...
