FERNDALE, Wash. — The Washington State Patrol released a Missing Indigenous Person Alert on Tuesday for a woman who was last known to have been in Ferndale on Saturday.

Angela M. Maguire, 38, is considered to be an at-risk missing person.

She is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

The alert was activated by the state patrol on behalf of the Lummi Police Department.

Anyone who sees Maguire is asked to call 911.

The new Missing Indigenous Person Alert System — the first of its kind in the nation — launched on July 1.

Missing Indigenous Persons was added as a specific designation to the Endangered Missing Persons Alert systems, such as Amber Alerts that highlight missing children.

In Washington, more than four times as many Indigenous women disappear than white women, according to research conducted by the Urban Indian Health Institute in Seattle.

The alert system will broadcast information about missing Indigenous people on message signs and in highway advisory radio messages. Information will also be provided to the media through press releases.
