Found Deceased WA - Arezu Kashify, 24, husband left country with one way ticket, Spokane, 25 May 2019

Thinking out loud, but what I can’t understand is why didn’t he just leave? He could fly back to Afghanistan and abandon his wife and kids. She wouldn’t have been able to force him to come back or make him pay child support. Why did he have to kill her?? (i am assuming that’s what he did)
The fact stated that she had limited access to money is a control issue. And if she defied him, he likely killed her because of it. I was married to someone like that. I made good money in my job, but I would go hungry if he was out of town as he would leave me no money for food, and I wasn't allowed to have a credit card in my name. He always threatened to kill me or himself. I'm still here. On the plus side, it spurred me to get a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice 20 years ago so I can get justice for those with no voice.

I am not sure you would flee to Afghanistan if you were afraid of having your head chopped off. It will be interesting to see how he fairs there.

Kate Kotenko works with Arezu, and has known her for about two years. She was shocked when she heard about her friend's disappearance.

She said Arezu loved her children and that it was out of character for her to leave them.

"She was always caring, always made sure they looked good and dressed ok and everything good moms are supposed to do," Kotenko said.

She said Kashify would confide in her about troubles in her marriage, adding the couple seemed to fight quite a bit.

"He was very, very controlling," Kotenko said. "I think she is a victim of her marriage. She was very scared of everything, scared of him. I don't know, I just wish she was ok."

KREM 2 talked to another friend of Arezu from work, who asked to remain anonymous.

She wrote in a statement, "Arezu was one of the kindest, most gentle people I've met. She was and is a great mother and really loved being a mom."

I wonder how certain they are that he was the one who got on the plane? Could someone who looks enough like him have purchased the ticket with his bank card and boarded with his passport? If those threats mentioned in 2015 were real I can't see him wanting to fly back to Afghanistan. It would be safer to hide in the US and risk going to American prison. IMOO.

I read where he bought a one-way ticket but I don't think I read where the ticket was to. Have any of the articles listed the specific destination as Afghanistan? Maybe I missed that detail.

Umm...oops. I somehow made a huge assumption without realizing I did. You are correct, it has only been stated he bought a one-way ticket out of the country.

This doesn’t sound good at all. :(

The timeline is confusing. May 25 was a Saturday. Are there schools/daycare centers open on Saturdays? Where was she last seen?

I noticed on this update, it is said that a friend reported her missing on the 30th. (Previously it was said to be the 27th, wasn't it?). Still says 25th (Saturday) as the date children were dropped off at school/daycare.

Someone mentioned the youngest is still breastfeeding... is there an article that says the age of the children? Is the eldest perhaps old enough to know slightly what is happening?

So maybe fingers crossed for extradition?

Though he was probably smart enough to fly somewhere where that won't happen.

I hope those poor babies have someone who can love and take care of them. I am sure they're missing their mommy. May she be found soon. </3

Am I the only one who is surprised that Police weren't able to get a search warrant for the apartment until today?

-no one picks up the kids (which would initially lead everyone to assume that trouble or an accident had befallen both parents I would think) No one could gain access to the apartment to check on them? Could have been two innocent people passed out from carbon monoxide poisoning that led to their not picking the children up for all anyone knew. It's sad access couldn't be gained prior to 11 days later....

The apartment complex could perform any checks or basic maintenance with just a 24 hour notice to renters, whether they are home or not. That wasn't a workaround that was considered in order to have at least management gain access sooner?

Just sad.

This "husband" obviously not only had no respect for his wife, but he obviously didn't care about his children either. It wasn't a "have to get out of the country fast and I can't afford 3 tickets" situation either. His ex partner/co-owner of Cougar Taxi said that the email that gave him full ownership of Cougar Taxi was unexpected/came out of the blue. If his word is true, that means that Kashify did not come to him beforehand between the 25-28 to attempt to get him to buy him out of his half instead, as a monetary means of purchasing those 2 extra tickets.
It's obviously for the best....this guy, in addition to being "controlling" and "terrifying" is also someone who can't control his rage and is a murderer. The kids are better off without him. But the fact he had absolutely no desire or care to attempt to bring them with just makes me think he's more of a monster devoid of genuine emotion.

So many people clamoring to get into this country to make a better life and this psycho blows it, takes out his wife and deserts his kids. So, now we bury her, raise their kids and he gets off? I sure hope we can extradite him and give him a "little juice to go with his breakfast."
