"Man hears noises in missing mom’s home"

http://www.whidbeynewstimes.com/news/306328131.html

A man living in the home of a missing woman reported hearing mysterious noises in the attic and crawl space.

Marvin Willey, the missing woman’s son, was so scared that he armed himself and called police.

Tews’ other son, Raymond Willey, was questioned by deputies about her disappearance and then suddenly left the state in 2011.

Before she went missing, Tews sought protection orders against Raymond Willey, who lived with her at her Sonic Lane residence. She accused him in court papers of pointing a gun at her head.

Disappearance likely to remain unsolved after only suspect dies

http://www.whidbeynewstimes.com/news/374321201.html

The only suspect in the 2011 disappearance of an elderly woman from her North Whidbey home has died, leaving investigators with no leads in the case.

Betty Tews was 81 and medically fragile when she went missing sometime prior to June 21 of that year. She is presumed to be dead, but her body was never found.

Detectives with the Island County Sheriff’s Office long suspected that her son, Raymond Willey, was involved in her disappearance.

Earlier this year, Detective Laura Price was notified by authorities in West Sacramento that Willey had died. A friend found him dead in his apartment on Jan. 6; he passed away from natural causes.

Even if Willey hadn’t died, detectives would have a difficult time ever charging him with anything related to his mother’s disappearance, Chief Criminal Deputy Rick Felici said. There’s no physical evidence and no body.

“I don’t have a clue where she is,” he said.

Betty is still listed as missing

  • Race White
  • Date of Birth 09/06/1929 (96)
  • Age 81 years old
  • Height and Weight 5'1, 140 - 160 pounds

  • Medical Conditions Tews needs daily life-sustaining medication and is considered to be medically fragile. She has a history of alcohol abuse.

  • Distinguishing Characteristics White female. Gray hair, hazel eyes. Tews previously broke her hip.
<<Tews was fearful of Willey and in March 2010 she had sought an order of protection against him, claiming he refused to leave her home when she asked, drank heavily and acted paranoid. She said that when she fell at home and broke her hip, Willey refused to help her and she lay at home for hours before calling a friend for assistance.

The order was granted, prohibiting Willey from going to Tews's home or contacting her, but a few months later, Tews asked for it to be terminated. She asked for another order in September, saying Willey had pointed a rifle at her head and threatened her life. This second order was granted temporarily, with a permanent protection order hearing set for a week later, but Tews never showed up for the hearing and the order expired.

Investigators searched Tews's home, vehicles, garage and computers, but found no evidence in her disappearance. After she was reported missing, Willey was uncooperative and evasive with the investigation, and quickly moved to California. He died there in 2016.>>
