WA - Cascade Mall, 5 fatalities, Burlington, 23 Sept 2016 *Arrest*

Authorities say a gunman who fatally shot five people at a Washington state mall initially entered the shopping center without a weapon, but 10 minutes later, went inside Macy’s with a rifle and opened fire.

I'm inclined to believe this report over the previous one. Sounds like they obtained the info from LE.

So either he came into the mall earlier with the gun and hid it somewhere or he worked at the mall and brought it in and hid it at some point or someone else brought it in for him.

I would exclude the second one because if he worked there someone would have identified him already.

So where did he go in those 10 minutes?

I live in the area and most people are saying based off the scanner that they do know who he is because one of the victims was his girlfriend. Having said that, yes it's a small town, but that mall gets patrons from Canada (many many Canadians), the Olympic Peninsula, and the San Juan Islands. I can't think of any store in that mall which would sell weapons, Champs included as I've been there several times. The gunman entered the mall (not sure if it was macys or the mall itself) unarmed, left, then came back 10 minutes later with the gun and opened fire. More than likely this person is local but you never know. He looks young, and hunting is very popular here so it's not unusual for someone to have a rifle in the back of their vehicle.Or for a kid (he looks young) to take a hunting rifle from their parents. I hope they find him by the end of the day. We are close to Canada and about an hour from Seattle so it's easy to go to Vancouver or Seattle and blend right in. I hope they find him soon! People are terrified!

Welcome to WS! Thank you so much for pitching in.

Great to read your post, and that more may be known, because if the perp didn't know the poor unsuspecting victims and it was about the location, I would've guessed a former employee or a person in disguise, from the way out there theory side of things. Having tweaked the face for hours, I could find no contours of cheek bones, etc, or much definition beyond the hint of defined lips and a chin, then the eyes, but no eyebrows. I'm used to faces showing more specifics, especially pictured relatively clearly. I don't think this could've been the only time this person was in the Mall, seems well planned.

Ok, I had a play about because this is bugging me.

The shaping of his back looks like he could have the gun under his shirt. So what is he carrying in his right hand? As you can see it is curved, it looks like he has a bag. It could be a bag with the gun in it, but he is holding a bag handle. The gun has a strap and it could be he is carrying the gun by the strap but I can't see why you would do that, and what is that grey area? It looks like a hastily done blur job by media or LE.

I'm not sure if that achieves anything but there you go lol

I explored the Champs Sports link I posted earlier a little more. I didn't find a way someone could order a hunting rifle through Champs and then pick it up at Champs. Instead, I found a directory of gun dealers in Burlington. The closest one to Cascade Mall, that I could see, is Holiday Sports. Again, Google maps show it just over a mile away from the mall, but that's taking an indirect route by foot. Still, it would take him more than 10 minutes to leave, buy a rifle and then return by foot. I think he likely had a car and drove to Holiday Sports and purchased the rifle (maybe had pre-ordered it, if that's possible) before returning to the mall. He was probably gone by the time 1st responders arrived on the scene.

ETA: Here is the link I'm speaking of: http://www.americanfirearms.org/bus...ields[14]=Burlington&listingfields[15]=Skagit

I found the link when I Googled Champs Sports earlier and when I clicked on the business website link, it took me to the Champs Sports website. But, I think it's just a directory listing. There's also a link to Holiday Sports' website under the gun dealer listing.

Is the perp wearing something over his face?

Police said they were looking for a man wearing black and armed with a “hunting-type” rifle. The description, including that he appeared to be Hispanic, was based on statements from witnesses, said Given Kutz, a spokesman for the Skagit County Emergency Operations Center.

Premier Christy Clark tweeted her condolences on Saturday, saying: “The hearts of British Columbians go out to the victims and families impacted by the senseless shooting in Burlington.” Many British Columbians know the area well, and it is frequented by Canadian shoppers.

hmm, okay, still out there, wig, longish hair underneath because of the shape of the head. Face masked, very well adjusted for cameras and eyes, only lips, and smallish chin showing of the real. Could be a full head mask, covering the neck too, thus the weird neck thing, body shape. Again, this comes from staring at it too long and it's just the play of light and distortion these kinds of images are prone to. LE's description seems pretty solid, based on witnesses who saw him "face to face."

If the victim was really his girlfriend, wouldn't they know his identity by now?

I'm not picking up on him wearing anything but a shirt and shorts. The eyes look dark due to overhead lighting and his hair is kind of shaggy. That's what I see, JMO

In one picture he seems to have a large tattoo on his lower right arm. But in other pictures it isn't visible and in one it has been blurred out.

I noted earlier I thought it looks like he's wearing a black skull cap over his head and eyeblack around his eyes. On closer images that FindHG and Skibaboo have posted, his eyes look too black to me to be from lighting; it covers a large area around his eye. MOO.

I think he is wearing a skull cap because the top of his head is smoothed down, but the hair in front is shaggy and pushed forward.

Lighting in an indoor mall is terrible - all kinds of hues, different walls, different heights - I think that's why it's hard to get a clear image of him. They all look slightly different.

This is TOO close to home for me! My son lives in Seattle, and I'm on the East side of the mountains..

I'm hoping he's not headed to Seattle!

Looks to me as if he has very thick eyebrows.

He was headed towards Rt.5, so he could have had a ride waiting for him, and they hopped on 5.

Maybe this was already discussed but the first two photos - those are him entering the mall and then second two photos appear to be when he was in Macy's and that is when he had the rifle. Does this Macy's have a direct exit/entrance to the parking lot or does all foot traffic go through the mall?

I can tell in the first photos that they are entrance from outdoors because I can see grass. In the second set it looks like it is tile on the other side of the door but it could be cement.

In the pic where he is walking through the doors it looks to me like he may have a tattoo on his lower left leg. VERY hard for me to tell but it looks like something is there.
