I'd be extremely concerned about the sadistic nature of these crimes. He needs to be caught, asap.

Definitely disturbing. According to msm the cats appeared to be "posed" and left out in public areas where they were likely to be found. In at least some cases internal organs were removed.

‘Disturbing serial crime spree’: A 12th cat found mutilated in Thurston County
Washington state sees 12th feline mutilated amid fears of a serial cat killer

We're all aware of the implications when a person has an obsession with cutting animals open along with an apparent need to have his/her "handiwork" found and witnessed by the public. At this point it seems clear that the person is killing live cats which makes it even more important to find whoever is responsible.

@MsMarple, they may have the killer's DNA!
"Olly, a seventh cat, who was found dead on Aug. 3, reportedly fought back against her attacker. Animal services said they collected DNA samples from underneath the cat's claws and sent them to a crime lab to check for the possible DNA of whoever killed her."

The hunt is on for a serial cat killer in Washington state, as the grisly death toll of mutilated felines reaches 13.

The slayings are horrifically public as the carcasses of each cat have been found surgically slit and laid out on front lawns, church grounds, and public parks.

The 13th cat was discovered on Thursday in Olympia on a private property, according to Thurston County Sheriff's Detective Ben Elkins.

Police believe one suspect is behind the string of slayings that started in February. Cops say the violence is ramping up as eight cats were found in August alone.

I hope they catch this monster ASAP. What a very sick and evil individual this must be.

There is a serial cat murderer in England too called the Croydon Cat Killer who is believed to be male. He has killed numerous cats across London and England.

I hope they are all caught and punished to the fullest extent of the law. Unfortunately the sentences for animal abuse are farcical here in the U.K and they badly need a serious overhaul. I don’t know what they are like in the States.

Up to 2 years per cat, at least that's what law enforcement is saying in this particular case.
They have a 10 people task force assigned to finding this man whose killings are escalating. 7 cats were killed in August alone.

So disheartening thirteen now.
Someone knows who this sick puke is. No way this guy is out sneaking around Mutilating cats, and not one single person knows.
I know the police have some tips, but clearly It's not enough to cuff him,and put him in the slammer.
Poor kitties.
Hopefully someone out there will nail this puke before he does it again,or catches him in the act.

I'm thinking this guy has a cat trap,or maybe more. Set out in various spots.
I believe you can get them from the humane society,or maybe veterinarian to catch them, and have them spayed,or neutered.
I have a sister in Cali who has done that with feral cats in her yard. She found homes for a mama, and her litter.
I wonder if they can track this guy from the cat traps manufacturer, retail, veterinarian, or the humane society.

Apart from being owners of cats who have been killed, what else do the owners have in common, if anything?
It would be interesting to know more about that because the killer might be targeting their cats specifically. Say for instance, the owners are elderly, or all female, something like that.

Brainstorming:

The killings are happening between 11p.m & 6:30 a.m.

LE says they are not chosen at random.
So, when are they chosen & how are they chosen?

When: During the day.

How: What job would allow one to be in the 3 counties during the day?

I'm thinking someone who spends more time outside than in. Like a landscaper, for example. Someone who doesn't draw suspicion because he's supposed to be there, rather than some guy wandering around looking for victims.

Have any of the victims recently had landscaping or similar work done shortly before their cat was killed?

He's free to come and go between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
He lives alone, no-one else at home to question his late night excursions. Or he lives with elderly parents who turn in early at night.

I was thinking it is probably someone who lives with an older person or two also.
They can sneak out,and Grandma/Grandpa would never know.
They hate cats having free run of the neighborhood, making ungodly sounds when they fight, poop in people's gardens, kill wild birds ,etc.

The article is not for the faint of heart. The upshot is that necropsies show not only mutilations but also blunt force trauma. The vet said:
“The suspect appears to be motivated by anger, control. There's maybe a little bit of interest here to see how everything works but they are also putting these animals out on display for everybody to find so I think it's also wanting to see a reaction,” said Johnson.

She’s hoping DNA results come back soon from the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab on claws she submitted. It’s possible one of the cats scratched the killer while being taken.
‘It’s absolutely horrific,’ says vet performing necropsies on mutilated Thurston County cats

This happened in Florida when I lived there. The perp caught was a teen, he said he was studying for medical school, and was using "homeless" animals for dissection. His parents were very wealthy, he had attorneys, it was sick! These were not homeless animals! They were friendly, neighborhood pets!

I was involved with this, and I don't care that he says he is not guilty. I believe that he is.

The sickest thing, not mentioned in the articles, he left mutilated animals on the sidewalk, I believe he enjoyed the horror factor of children seeing the eviscerated cats and kittens. He didn't throw them away, he wanted to be caught, and then, deny his involvement. I believe that there is a lot of mental stuff with this guy.

Accused cat killer took anatomy class, police say - CNN.com

He’s not a ‘Serial Cat Killer’ After All
