BEAVER CREEK FOREST, Wash. -- A massive search effort is under way near Mount Rainier to find a man who’s been missing since Memorial Day weekend.
Dozens of searchers have been looking for 72-year-old Chang Soo Kim in the Beaver Creek forest area.
Deep in the wet, muddy, steep rocky forest, search and rescue teams from Pierce, King, Thurston and Kitsap counties were back, combing for any signs of life.
“For the family and friends and everybody that’s missing him, they will want some closure -- hopefully we’ll find him and get him back home,” said Detective Gary Sanders with the Pierce County Sheriff Department.
...
Rescuers said Kim has no medical issues and he has survival skills and experience in the outdoors, so they’re hoping that's helping him endure the tough elements.
“We’re at that pivotal point of the longer were out, the less probability there is,” Sanders said. “Best outcome is going to be finding Mr. Kim. He’s hunkered down somewhere, he’s been camping, using his skills and we find him today and we get him out and we take him back home.”
Rescuers said Kim does not speak English. He was last seen wearing a brown and navy jacket, blue shirt, jeans and black shoes.
