I don't think anything she allegedly did that morning (skipping carpool for bus when noticing her badge was gone, parking outside the garage before it was full, running back for the badge rather than leaving it) is at all unusual - it's a pattern likely followed by dozens of commuters every week. I'd have done all the same things. Without knowing her normal practices, it's hard to guess what any of it means.
What I wanted to add as we think of what others may have seen or not seen: Think of how rushed the morning commute is on a Monday morning and, as a result, how self-absorbed we all are. Yes, if someone was abducted inches from us and screaming we'd notice; in any other scenario, it could go undetected. There's certainly periods where an abduction could easily happen even during commuting hours there. Heck, someone could be abducted two steps off my front lawn at that hour and I might not notice because I'm shuttling myself and kids through breakfast and the morning routines to get them off to school and me to work. My guess is much of MLT might have similar mornings. :)

I know we're all hoping for some answers to make some sense of this awful tragedy but sleuthing people that haven't even been named as a suspect or POI is against TOS here. Just a friendly reminder :)

THANKS, I needed that.

Regarding the area where she was found, there does seem to be some foot traffic in the area. You can see that at least a few people run in the area, according to this Strava heat map:

It doesn't mean much, but I know when I'm out running, I always look down in drainage ditches when I pass by them.

After reading the thread, my insomnia compelled me to contribute something, no matter how insignificant to the thread.

ETA: the green color on the map indicates someone has logged activity using the Strava app using data from their smartphone or gps running watch.

And I look in drainage ditches, too.
Particularly if I am close to the ditches while walking our dogs.
The dogs are always interested in those ditches and walking them on leash, they pull to look, so I pull them away, and I get a good view of those ditches.

KCPQ news in Seattle is anticipating word this morning from the medical examiner as to cause and manner of death. They say there will be a presser at 8:30 am Pacific Time.
Thanks. It should clear up a few things

I think suicide in a culvert is about as unlikely as alien abduction. jmo

I'm going with job related on this one. She may have been in over her head or simply knew too much. I can see her blowing off her carpool, meeting someone at the car park, them getting into her car (or she in their car) - they go for a short drive and maybe park and walk. While walking, she is killed - pushed into the ditch and the killer walks on.... JMO, MOO ....

I'm trying to understand your train of thought, here. So you think maybe she found out something about misuse of funds? Or?

I'm not being snarky, I just don't know much about her position or anything. This is way out of my scope! :)

But it sounds like a possibility... I just want to know more.

If she really did send that text, why would she leave her badge home on purpose?
I mean, if she needed to see someone secretly, she could have brought along her badge, but say that she left it at home.
Her mother confirmed that her badge and ORCA card were indeed at home.
Do you think she left it there on purpose, incase she sees her husband at home and that would be an alibi of why she didn't carpool? He would be none the wiser about her secret meeting?

IMOO.

I have no idea what her particular job there was, but IMO, cancer (health) research is BIG business - from funding to drug companies competing, to government guidelines vs the private sector, etc. Insider trading of secrets or awareness of something illegal going on could be a motive IMO.

That, and I just really don't want it to be someone close to her....

I would definitely leave my credentials at home as an alibi - that and I wouldn't want to have them on me, so that they didn't fall into the wrong hands. I may be totally off here. Just throwing it out there. :)

Well, that's a very ambitious theory! Motive?

Well....sexually motivated, fantasy driven ? This woman was said to have been pretty street savvy and careful when it came to strangers and that daily commute. I just can't see her grabbing her purse and phone and hopping into a vehicle with someone she didn't know or barely knew. There have been indications from the cops that she was in fact there that morning, so I'm basing everything on that.

A strong armed abduction most likely would not have resulted in her taking along her purse and phone, not to mention it would have been violent and noticeable to just about anybody paying attention. She would have also been fighting and screaming and putting up a fuss.

Her exiting one vehicle and getting into another one under her own power wouldn't have raised any suspicions at all, and would have gone largely unnoticed. I'm simply approaching this from the vantage point that everything her husband said is true, everything her friend said is true, and that Cheryl parked her car and then realized she left her badge at home.....all of which was reported initially. If all of that is true and accurate, then the only thing left is to try and figure out what scenario played itself out to the point where she would have voluntarily gone with someone and then been found dead in a ditch 6 days later.

Or as simple as letting someone go (firing) and them holding a grudge. I got the impression that she programmed and have no idea if she managed anyone but if so - I'm guessing they and former employees will be looked at closely. Honestly, it sounded like everyone who came in contact with CD loved her ....so this is probably not what happened but I saw a similar incident locally where a beloved employee was shot at the bus stop. Luckily cameras caught it and it turned out to be a co-worker who was about to get reported for mishandling funds. The victim was his manager.

Well we should know more in about a half hour

Suicide deaths.....personal and hurt me to the core.

Knowing their killer....the betrayal we see so often in cases here. But thinking the person you last saw was a loved one is just too awful. I don't want that for Cheryl either.

Stranger killer.....while the scariest is many aspects, but you never know who they are, if you could have been a victim of theirs, and knowing they are all among us, and any of us could be a victim is frightening. But to the loved ones of the deceased, I think it would be easier to deal with. I don't know. It just seems to me it would be easier than another family member. Losing a parent would be horrible. Losing both would devastate me.

I don't want to see anyone murdered, EVER! Yet I know that's not reality.

Looking at a work related issue might be a stretch, but really am looking for a motive.

Everyone naturally dying in their sleep, or doing whatever they love would be the ideal way, if we got to choose, but....

Just adding to this - maybe someone (could even be a stranger) used a ruse to get her to enter their vehicle.

What if someone disabled her jeep so she had to take the white car - and they were hiding in the white car when she got in it?

Seems like LE would figure out pretty quickly if someone had tampered with the jeep though.

I think most of us are approaching this as "What would I do?" Or "What would the average person do?" I think it helps to have lots of different perspectives.

I was actually replying to a question about my earlier post this morning... # 1011 . It's a theory I came up with this morning while drinking coffee and trying to make sense out of all of this.
