I really have a tough time getting on board with a stranger theory. HOWEVER, a case that I am (sadly) extremely close to, was a broad daylight abduction with a knife, in a pretty busy area. The abductor was a complete stranger on the prowl. I will say, he left the area immediately, and the victim was taken far from the area. It's hard for me to believe that a stranger would keep her in that area. It's just so risky!

Just my thoughts on the "stranger" theory. I know all perps aren't the same, and don't think like we do, so it's hard to say...

Ever met a junkie addicted to hardcore drugs and desperate for a fix? They don’t use logic, they will do anything to get money, they don’t care how they have to get it.
Now THIS is a good point! I hadn't thought of an addict doing this... But killing her? And leaving her body right there?

I don't know...

I'm strapped for time, hopefully have a chance to be here longer later today, but I wanted to say I agreed with a lot of what I think it was Steelman said in the long post a couple of pages back. I'm kinda just putting this here so I don't forget to come back to it later.

Right now, to me this is starting to look a lot more like a stranger was involved. Not every criminal makes a career out of it or is even well-versed in crime. It might be that a hidden body is hidden body to them, and whether that's in a culvert in a decently populated area or far out of town in the woods might not matter to them.

It's also quite possible they did not have the means of transportation to take a body far away to hide.

If they're really looking for her glasses in the area she was found, maybe she was killed there too. If she was transported there after she died, IMO it's more likely her glasses had already fallen off somewhere else (wherever she was killed).

My thoughts at the moment are Cheryl was standing by her car debating on losing her spot and driving, or jogging home, or was already jogging home, and she got pulled into someone's car just because she was an easy target. They kept her for a while (anywhere between that night and the 14th), in their residence close to the culvert, then walked her there and murdered her and hid her.

On Google Streetview, if you turn left off 244th, on the (then) left hand side of the road (still Cedar Way?) is a house for sale. That picture if I recall correctly was from either November or December, so fairly recent. I'll have to look again but it looked to me like it could be empty. If it is, I hope LE are searching the premises (house, any sheds or garage) for signs of breaking and entering etc..

Very interesting. That sounds like work clothes to me. Not so much Sunday clothes.
I think it's hard to say. Jeans and say, a black Patagonia jacket could fit this description as well. I hope it's work clothes, though. I really want to know!! I suspect most of us do! ;)

“At this time we don’t see a concern for people’s safety or threats to others,” said Pickard."

http://q13fox.com/2016/02/15/family-employer-identify-body-found-in-culvert-as-cheryl-deboer/

I never like the sound of "no concern or threats to people's safety" when discussing a case. Although I would like a case to be solved, either they have someone in custody or they are looking at someone close. My guess it might be someone close. Ughhhh.

Or maybe they think possible suicide.

I know it's not a theory many here will consider but I can't shake it from my head. The image in the link of the culvert. It's actually quite big, certainly big enough for a person to walk into. Well clearly, her body was found in there.

She could have sent the text to her friend so she wouldn't be waiting for her and so as not to concern her. She then could have just simply switched the phone off and walked away from her car. Jmo of course.

I'm sure many saw Sally Allan's thread at Christmas. It was very sad.
Thankfully, she was captured on much CCTV which proved she didn't come to harm at the hands of anyone else. Nobody that knew her could believe she would take this route. I think Sally had passed away, after a 10-11 mile walk, before her husband had even woken up that morning. [emoji885][emoji257] for Sally.

I am looking forward to the autopsy results. But more than that, I wish the carpool people would speak up.

I keep going back to how we act here in the Seattle area...There are certain things that we do around here - in the rain - for instance we like to park out of the rain when we can. Unless we are really outdoorsy and or truly don't care what we look like when we get where we are going. Or you have very short or no hair. ;)

I am curious where the normal meet up spot was; whether in or out of the well lit, covered and video cammed garage.

Someone mentioned why the carpool wouldn't have driven to her house... My carpools have had a "central meetup" spot. Building in time to go to individual houses would've added too much time... And as a result, people often didn't know where the others lived.

Traffic is awful here, especially during commute time. I don't know about other areas but carpooling is highly encouraged here and extremely common. It would be weird not to have a normal spot to meet. And her family specifically and repeatedly said it was not Cheryl's intent to take the bus, so she was intending (according to them) to get out of one car and into another.

But the police are calling her death suspicious and they said some of her personal items are missing. I take suspicious to mean “we think this was a murder” and wouldn’t her personal items be with her body if it was suicide? Why would she get rid of or hide her belongings and then kill herself? Just doesn’t make sense. But then again, not a lot about this case does.

Cheryl was said to have carpooled for years according to Pickard in the presser. I would think after a few years someone would know where Cheryl lived. IMOO.

Sadly, yes, and you are right. I am just thinking that if it were a robbery - unless Cheryl resisted - I have trouble picturing it involving kidnapping. It would be quicker and more efficient just to shoot the person who was resisting, then take the stuff. (I hate typing that.)

It's true, junkies can be irrational so who knows what might have happened. I am just having trouble picturing it here, with witnesses around and the police so close.

I hope we find out soon. My brain keeps spinning on this one.

ETA: regarding suicide, I would think that if the police felt this was possible, they would go ahead and say that her husband saw her last. I dunno. LE's caginess makes me think Bombshell, if you'll forgive me quoting Nancy Grace. All IMO of course!

Could very well be. It is a good point. But, I would think they would not be back at the scene scouring for her items if they thought it was a suicide. I will feel better when the mystery is solved.

Yes, the husband was the last to see her, so he gave the description of what she was wearing.

Her credit cards have not been used.
Wouldn't someone intent on robbing want access to her credit cards, perhaps?
IMOO.

I was thinking this, too. And taking it a bit further, I would think she would offer up pin numbers, etc., to try to save her life. :( so sad. I hate thinking these things, but I just can't get her off my mind.

I heard there were multiple people in the carpool. And early on I saw what was reported to be the texts. I'll find the link to the article if I can - where the carpool asked how long it would take to go get her badge. Cheryl's response was "10 minutes". That would make sense with 4 minutes each way and two minutes in and out of the house.

It just struck me as they didn't know how far away she lived.

Unfortunately the only concrete fact that we have is she was found at 1230 on 2/14/16 in a culvert. Other than that...we don't know if any of the sequence of events actually did happened on 2/8/16. So it is impossible to make any conclusions until we get more information.

Hopefully they do disclose COD and TOD today.....

I know they say suspicious and it may prove to be.
When I watched the press conference from yesterday, Pickard wouldn't discuss if her personal belongings were missing but said there were items they were looking for. He didn't state what these items were.
I did say I can't shake it from my head, not that I thought she definitely had. I certainly wouldn't like to hazard a guess why anyone takes certain actions.

Or maybe they didn't know if she could locate her badge, like where it was in the house, and if there was other work there she needed to pick up as well, and asked how long do you think it will take?
IMOO.

I wonder if anyone on the street where her car was found has cameras on their house.
