Interesting that they mention two small cuts that were "self-inflicted." So could that be the source of the blood that was found? I know I cut my fingers constantly, it seems... paper cuts, opening up packages, etc. Wondering why they are releasing this info...

IF they are trying to allude to suicide, a few superficial cuts on the fingers doesn't sound like much of an attempt to me? This is definitely becoming more confusing by the minute.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner took custody of and performed an autopsy to identify the body and determine the cause and manner of death. The Medical Examiner positively identified the body as DeBoer and is awaiting further test results before making the final determination of the cause and manner of death. The autopsy did reveal small cuts on two of DeBoer’s fingers that according to the Medical Examiner appear to be self inflicted.

Mountlake Terrace detectives continue to investigate this case as a homicide. However, other possible causes of death are also being investigated.

A very strange comment, IMO

Well that didn't give us much. Small cuts could be anything. Chopping food, paper cuts????? Lordy!

  • #146
Possible cuts could have occurred during a struggle. Contact with sharp edges of material in the car perhaps under the dashboard.

I still think suicide is highly unlikely. Highly.

Is it possible that they still haven't found a significant injury to her body? I mean, aside from the fact that she's deceased. I just don't understand why or how a couple finger cuts are significant or relevant. As others have said, they could be from anything.

I wonder which two fingers? If it would be two fingers on her right hand, that could possibly be how it got on the inside of the passenger door? Was she sitting on the passenger side?
IMOO.

How can they tell if they're self inflicted cuts?

She's not diabetic that I know of, right?
I mean if she was and she pricked her finger to check her blood sugar, I would think she wouldn't be bleeding much and wouldn't she have had a kleenex or something?
Just throwing thoughts out there...
IMOO.

If you cut your finger with your own fingernail, would that be "self inflicted"? Maybe she was trying to leave clues...?? Long shot, I know...

I really hope her husband and son are receiving more information than we are. I know that I feel quite a connection to Cheryl, at this point. I'm so invested in her case, and hoping she gets justice. That said, I can't begin to fathom what this is like for them. You know what I mean? They must be going crazy right now! I wish there was anything I could do to help them. :(

How can they tell if they're self inflicted cuts?

The angle of the cuts perhaps and which hand she used, maybe?
Did they find a knife or something? a metal nail file for her nails?
IMOO.

I think when she first went missing, they would have said she had diabetes. Usually in cases where there's a medical issue, it's highly publicized. Also, pricks, aren't the same as cuts... Right?

Great thinking, though! I hadn't considered this. At this point, who knows.

Perhaps the cuts were from a knife while she was cooking dinner recently and her husband confirmed it? What a weird thing to release..

I think it was random. She parks, gets out of her car, goes to passenger side to get her work stuff. Passenger side door is open. A mugger comes up behind her and tries to grab her stuff. Struggle ensues. She gets hit HARD and goes down. Blood gets all over passenger side.

She is dead or dying and criminal panics. For some reason he opts to put her in his own vehicle, maybe thinking to take her to the hospital even (panic and hesitation about what happened and what to do). She dies. He doesn't know what to do so dumps the body at night.

It seems weird because it was unplanned and unexpected.

Oh !! I see what happened now !!

After texting her friend, Cheryl inexplicably punched herself in the face. She hit herself so hard in fact, she ended up face down on the passengers seat. She then turned her cellphone off and was so angry about leaving her badge at home, that she opted to get out of her car with purse and cellphone in hand, and then began walking 1.2 miles down the street without being seen. After having walked the 1.2 miles down a busy street in the rain and with no one seeing her, she decided to enter a concrete culvert via a flooded ditch and crawl on her hands and knees to the far side as water flowed through the culvert.

After taking a seat in foot deep water, she took out a penknife and slashed a couple of her fingertips. Afterwards, she swallowed an entire bottle of prescription pills and made sure all the evidence was swept away in the current. Phone, pills, knife, purse, all swept away.

It was right there in front of us all along......can't you guys see it !!??

Once the M.E. pointed out the tiny cuts on her fingers, of which he has no idea if self inflicted or not, that just opened everything up for me.

What a crock of Sh%&%*t

Just a point to ponder regarding the Husband being cleared. Perhaps it took a bit longer to do a thorough Investigation. Even tho it was evident the Husband was not physically responsible perhaps they were looking at him even closer? A lover? A hired hit? etc. etc.
ETA Bank accounts, credit card activity etc.

Self-inflicted cuts. Huh. If the ME thinks they are accidental, why mention it NOW, ahead of any real info? Well, why release anything piecemeal, really. This is very odd.
