@teatime Cheryl is shown leaving her house on surveillance that morning. How could she be in the culvert when she's physically on camera?

I suppose someone could have tampered with the surveilace system.

Does anyone entertain the possibility that law enforcement is purposefully giving out false information at this point to make the perp feel more at ease and/or to possibly get more information?

I believe her car was seen leaving the house, not necessarily her in it.

I think the text was sent by her. My biggest question is why CD? Was she singled out by the murderer, if indeed this was a homicide? The short time period from when the text was sent to the discovery of her car later in the day is puzzling. And this area is well trafficked yet no one saw anything suspicion.

The little bits of info released only confuses the public. Perhaps this is how LE up there operates.

Perplexing case based on what we know. No way is this a suicide IMHO.

As of a few hours ago, 100% yes.

I will come back with a link, but the DeBoer home has a surveillance system. MD was seen on camera, leaving the house at 6:50. Cheryl, a bit later. I don't remember the time, but link coming. :)

From the link:

A surveillance system at the DeBoer’s home shows her husband leaving the house around 6:50 a.m. Feb. 8, a few minutes before Cheryl. He arrived at this work in Mukilteo around 7:15 a.m.

I'm not caught up yet on all the posts from today, but early on this case reminded me a little of Leanne Barden's. I had put it out of my mind though.

I really feel for Cheryl's family.

I hope it's okay that I bring this post I just made over from the old thread.

http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/seattle?month=11&year=2015

Mountlake Terrace isn't on here, so I went with Seattle - not the same but comparable enough for our purposes, IMO. Seattle is 20 minutes from Mountlake Terrace.

The above picture was taken in November 2015. Other pictures in the area are from December 2015. You can see an ever so slight shade in some spots if you 'travel' the road a bit. The shade indicates the sun (however little sunlight there was) was shining from a point between east southeast and south.

I went with a November 23rd date. The sun that day rose at 7:26am east southeast, and was at south at 11:56am. Now I'm not a great compass reader, but a rough estimate will do IMO - the middle point between those two points and times would be approximately 9:45am.

It's my belief the Google maps picture was taken around that time, 9:45am. (Idk if and what it matters, but there you go). :)

What, you didn't have a sundial handy?! :croc:

Can you say more about how one might do this?

.../
The most likely scenario is she noticed her badge was missing, pulled on the side street where she knows there is parking available to look for it. Once she couldn't find it she text the friend. She would not risk being stuck in the park and ride garage before she located it. It would have delayed her significantly just due to the traffic on that half block. Especially if she usually wore it around her neck. She would have noticed as she was driving. Something happened during the search just after she sent the text.) .../
I really like this "most likely scenario!" It makes the most sense to me since there was reference to her normally parking at the transit center, and not where her car was found. I believe her husband would have checked the transit center covered parking first, and then the open lot. Failing to find her car there, he would have moved to the overflow parking area where he discovered her car.

It just makes so much sense like that. Driving to work...you realize you forgot your badge, so you pull off onto a side street, pull over and text your friend to go on without you (that was what she said) - drive home, grab the badge, and take the next bus that was coming 15 minutes later. No big deal. Very logical explanation.
So where it went wrong for her is that prior to pulling away from that parking space on 58th Ave.

That would make it a wrong place/wrong time situation.

Sorry to ask such a stupid question (and sorry if it's been answered before!) but are Seattle PD or the FBI or anyone like that involved? My theory on why LE's methods seem a little iffy is because MLT police are probably not at all equipped or experienced enough for this.

Kevin Pickard recently graduated from a specialized FBI Advanced Training. http://mltnews.com/mountlake-terrace-police-commander-graduates-from-fbi-national-academy/

I haven't specifically heard of any other agencies involved after the first few days.

If we believe the theory of abduction and murder by stranger or acquaintance is true, could the cuts on her fingers stem from trying to get out of the vehicle and in a panic hurting herself on something sharp on the passenger door where she had been forced to sit?

This theory would explain both the cuts and the blood found in the car, however I think it's more likely that the cuts had nothing to do with her disappearance and death.

What do you mean, what false information?
I think they've withheld a lot but I'm not sure any is false.

It's certainly possible that the cuts were caused by Cheryl injuring herself as she was trying to escape. If we believe in the abduction theory.

It does seem strange to me that the cuts were even mentioned if they're nothing to do with her death. I don't know if it's simply bad reporting. The wording "self-inflicted" rather than "defence wounds" has thrown me.

Of course, at the moment we don't know whose blood it was, or even if it was fresh. Was it immediately noticeable or was it discovered during forensic testing?

I have two theories at the moment regarding LE. They either know far more than they're letting on, with good reason to hold information back. Or they know very little. I'm going with the former for now.

I wanted to ask, since you brought this pic up.
I don't know if you have done this, but the thumbnail pic of the car can be clicked on and made much much larger.
Do you think that pet carrier was in the vehicle?
This looks to be the LE impound lot.
Anyway, what my post is actually about, is the Red tape on strategic places on the car.
There is red tape on the fuel door cover, red tape on the right rear window, red tape between the right front passenger window and rear window, red tape on the right side of the hood.
Above the fuel door cover it appears to have a black stain. Maybe nothing. But all that red tape would indicate something, right?
Would that be blood, or fingerprints?
Can someone bring a large copy of that photo of the car on the thread? It would be great if someone has the means to do so, and just keep the link with it, as well.
IMOO.

I figured the carrier and items next to it were all with the car but now that you mentioned it - that could be the property of the impoundment lot. And I meant scratches not "crutches" - auto correct got me!

Mountlake terrace police is not equipped to handle a case like this. I think this is the breakdown in communication. Besides strategy, they aren't sure what to say so they don't say. They're having to rely on the State Patrol crime lab. I also believe they are probably getting assistance from other departments as MLT only has 1 or 2 detectives. They mostly deal with stolen property or DV type stuff. Maybe minor drugs. I think I read MLT is only 4 square miles. It lasts literally only 1 freeway exit.

I just hope they are withholding for good reasons and not because they have Jack.

I'm literally weirded out by this as it's barely 5 miles from where I live. Thus why I'm up at 3am.
