During one of the press conferences given by Cheryl's mother, sister, and niece, it was stated that her husband was too grief stricken to speak to the media. This was before she had been found.

Her husband didn't make any media appearances at all that I am aware of.

Her husband didn't help search for her.

Her husband located her car that day, and has been out of sight ever since.

If you take that information coupled with my comment up there, it appears to me that maybe he knew very early on that Cheryl had done something drastic. Only he would know what had gone on between them and what was said between them.

Sorry to feel the need to say, not sure about him not searching. Someone with the same surname as CD, stated on the missing FB page the husband was out searching, every day.

In regards to this possible suicide angle that reared it's ugly head yesterday after information about the self-inflicted cuts on the finger tips, I did some thinking about that after I logged off for a little while.

I want everyone who may read this to understand that what I'm about to type is theoretical , not factual, and it should be taken that way. I have no insider knowledge of any kind, and I don't know either Cheryl or her husband Mike.

I began by wondering about what kind of situation might arise that would actually propel Cheryl to take the drastic action of committing suicide. The Sunday before she vanished was Superbowl Sunday, which has nothing to do with anything except to refresh peoples memory about when she disappeared. Neither myself, nor anyone in this forum has any idea what that Sunday, or that entire weekend, was like inside her home. Cheryl and her husband apparently lived there as a couple, with their son living elsewhere on a fulltime basis. So what could have transpired that weekend that might have sent Cheryl into a forgetful, despondent, depressed and zombie like state by Monday morning ?

A) A huge, vicious argument
B) Proof of infidelity
C) A request for a divorce
D) A threat of divorce
F) knowledge of an incurable illness
G) Betrayal
H) Add your own idea here

Anyone who has ever had a gut splitting fight with a partner knows how quickly it can drain your entire being and send you into an almost catatonic state afterwards. Even though there may not be a conversation ongoing, your head still has all kinds of thoughts and ideas swirling around inside of it long after the arguing is over. Some people respond to these kinds of altercations by lashing out further, while some people respond by becoming withdrawn and internalizing things.

I can't sit here and say with any certainty that any of this happened. I also can't say with certainty that it didn't. Nobody in this forum was in their house during that weekend, so nobody can honestly say what may have happened. I guess the same would apply to the vast majority of their friends and family. Whether this information was shared with the authorities or not is unknown, but judging by some of their odd statements and revelations, it does sort of set the tone that they may know some things that happened here that none of the rest of us do.

With that being said, it is actually conceivable that if Cheryl was distraught about something that Monday morning, something big, then maybe the idea that she wanted to end it all is also conceivable. All you need is a bottle of pills, a bottle of booze, and an isolated place to lean back and give it time to kick in. Her state of mind that morning is really unknown for the most part, but numerous observers in here have commented about how unorganized and scattered she appeared to be, and how her daily routine appeared to be everything but routine that morning.

Unfortunately, if something like I described up there did happen, chance are good we will never know the details of what or when. The tidbit of information from the medical examiner yesterday in regards to the self inflicted cuts on her fingertips seems to indicate a precursor of things to come. I was one of the people that scoffed loudest at the very idea that this may have been a suicide when that report first surfaced. But after I've actually put some thought into it, and after observing the actions of her husband and what's been reported, I'm not so sure something didn't happen between them last weekend.

Something that may have been devastating to Cheryl.

I agree with all of this. I've gotten a suicide vibe from the beginning.

Just some thoughts since there seems to be no odd breaking news today.

In my opinion, one of three things happened. CB was killed by someone she knew and who knew her routine; She was killed by a stranger in a random, opportunistic attack; CB planned an elaborate suicide. Thinking this way, here are some of my thoughts:

- Someone she knew: MB has been ruled out according to LE. There is probably much more that we don't know, but I don't see that CB was very active on social media (I can't locate a FB, IG or Twitter for her. FB she shared with her husband). So the idea of her online meeting people and engaging seems odd to me, though not impossible. The badge throws a wrench into her "routine" unless that was planned somehow.

- A random, opportunistic attack: This seems least likely to me. There would be too many variables that would have to be controlled in order for this to be successful. The street she parked on (if it wasn't her usual street) has a lot of residential. Would they know that there are not cameras? If this was a homeless person or a drug addict, would they have the resources to conceal and move a body? Or steal a car and return it? Not likely, in my opinion. A psychopathic killer who was looking for a victim might choose something less risky. Unless they had done this in the past and felt confident in their methods.

- Suicide: I find it interesting that many (including myself) could easily be convinced that MB could do this with some elaborate thinking and planning, but question whether the same planning could go into CB planning something herself. There are several things that don't fit for me about this, but it is the only theory that seems to have all the pieces fit crudely together.

The piece I can't make fit in the first 2 scenarios is the badge. You would have to assume that until the text, the only people that might know that the badge was not with her were CB and MB.

Just some random thoughts of mine. I just hope that there is some explanation when LE finishes their investigation that cause all theses pieces to fit together and make more sense. I am frustrated by the ambiguity - I can only imagine what her family and friends are feeling.

What was her job? I read if I'm not wrong 'systems analist'? What is it about? Thank you.

Her official title was "Systems Analyst Programmer", and it can mean many things, depending on the institution, position, etc. Generally someone with this title is involved with computer programming in one way or another.

O/T but Mountlake Terrace has had at least one other high-profile murder:
https://mylifeofcrime.wordpress.com/2015/02/25/psycho-for-love-indle-king-jr-killed-his-russian-mail-order-bride-anastasia-solovieva/

I first heard of this a few years ago on Investigation Discovery. Probably on "Fatal Vows." I was riveted to realize they were talking about MLT and then even more so when I realized I recognized where the house was - not far from me. I saw it being refurbished not long ago and wondered if the owners had any idea. HORRIBLE.

ETA: On topic: I can't make the suicide theory fit with where she ended up in a culvert, a fair distance from her car. Maybe she did walk somewhere to do the deed but the culvert seems crazy. There are probably 50 secluded/wooded/brushy spots between her car and the culvert, and many more south and west of the transit center/I-5. Maybe she wandered around for awhile before taking action and ended up NEAR the culvert/creek/grassy area/ whatever. But IN the culvert? I dunno. Not sure the creek was high enough to wash her in, if she had entered upstream. Maybe.

Exploring a suicide angle (which I really don't believe is the case here), do we know if her work role at Fred Hutch was always as a Systems Analyst? Would that position enable her any access to financial information, or the ability to manipulate it?

Locally, we had a case where a veteran Probate Court clerk/admin had been stealing from the court for years without anyone noticing:
http://m.savannahnow.com/news/2015-...ears-federal-custody-ordered-make-restitution

If someone felt they might be caught soon, I could see the guilt/shame pushing them into thinking suicide could be the only solution to their problem.

Again, I'm just brainstorming and not making any accusations.

I love that we all have different ideas.

I just want to point out the guy that killed Samantha Koenig (who was a beautiful young lady) also killed and raped another older lady that was not what you would attractive or someone who catches you eye. In fact he didn't even have a certain profile of people he killed. Just killed when he had a chance to man, women, young, old, rich and poor. He was thought to have killed many people.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Keyes

It also could have been someone who was mental ill that the voices told him to do it etc.
A neighbor that didn't like that she planted her roses so close to his property line.
Someone she just cut off in traffic.
A guy who didn't get some from his wife or girlfriend the night before.
A sexual predator that has been caught before or not.
Someone that just wanted to kill someone.
I don't believe the suicide theory myself.

No matter who did this I hope they catch him before he does it to anyone else and to stand trial for taking such a beautiful soul from this world. Moo

Even though I made up this map way back in the beginning of this case, I have never been close to Mountlake Terrace.

Can someone local provide an idea of how Cheryl may have gotten from the Park-and-Ride to the culvert where she was found, without actually walking it ? For instance, taxi, bus, shuttle, etc...? Are there regular bus stops along that route ?

In other words, how could she have made it to that culvert and by what method, without being seen by people driving up and down the street ?

This http://www.communitytransit.org/BusService/ServiceChangeFiles/15Sep/111.pdf goes by 236th St SW and 48th Ave W. This would be 8 blocks north and 4 blocks west of the culvert. However, if she headed due east from 48th, i think she would have encountered the creek upstream from the culvert. I am not positive due to access issues: people's yards, brushy areas, etc.

Taxis are not common in this area. You would likely have to call for one. Maybe there would be a taxi AT the transit center but I don't know. Few and far between in MLT.

ETA: 236th and 48th are both arterials and well-traveled at that hour. If she had walked that part of the route, someone would have been sure to see her, if not recall her.

I am totally confused on this point. Would someone clear it up for me please, TIA.

Is the location where Cheryl's car was located, the usual everyday parking spot she used? She always parked in the remote area rather than the main lot?

Maybe Uber.

It appears CD's husband is active on SM. He posted a comment on a FB page where the link was shared about her Celebration of Life.

Maybe Uber.

Doesn't Uber require contact via either phone or internet? I am asking because I have no idea. But if so, there would be a record.

I am trying to kep up/catch up on this thread between work and other stuff. Yikes!

Has anyone brought up any local RSOs? I see a couple that I think live near the area she parked. Not sure if that is significant though. As if there is any DNA evidence in car, etc. I am sure LO already ran that.

All Community transit buses have cameras Inside. They would have looked into it and know this without a doubt. The Community Transit Pr guy was on the news that second day saying they have given all access.

Uber would have showed on a CC bill.

Very VERY few taxis. Would have had to call one. Usually 20+ minute wait.

I still firmly believe that Cheryl did not commit suicide.

  • #496
This is still most likely a suicide, especially now that the husband has been eliminated. The change in routine, and the text pretext was probably designed to cover up and buy her time to complete her plan. A serial killer or other predator would most likely not have done that.

I found a body with 10+ knife wounds to the torso. Anyone's first thought would have been that it was a homicide; but it turned out to be a suicide.
I'm in the apparently tiny minority of posters who agree with you. Waiting patiently for a COD. The comments made to media have been nothing if not confusing (case being investigated as a homicide vs self-inflicted cuts etc), and I hope there is a coherent update soon.

Can I quote the SM post of CD's husband MD? Or is that against TOS.

Or, I took a screen shot of the post.

...snipped with respect...

I have given this some thought in the last 24 hours and I was thinking about the fact that CD had lived in Mountlake Terrace all her life and that apparently her and MD were HS sweethearts. It is possible that there are places in and around MLT that have special significance to her. First kiss, first break-up, romantic entanglements in cars etc.
Up-thread I suggested that maybe she had walked up the wooded hill to the east of the culvert and taken some pills. I know that medications work differently on different people and in particular the sleeping tablet Ambien has had adverse effects on some causing somnambulism (sleep-walking), disorientation and even night-cooking (getting up from bed and preparing a meal while asleep). I think these two points could give reasons why someone would end up in such a bizarre location while trying to commit suicide...
