what could they possibly be preparing for more than theyve already gone through? im sure they feel weirded out that us sleuthers were looking at their page.

Preparing meaning they have probably gotten inundated with comments, judgements, etc. if an arrest or LE statement is coming up, locking themselves down would prevent anymore intrusion.

Basically saying they are tired of prying eyes.

Then return to the scene of the crime with her car? Can't see it. I'm wondering if there is any scenario that she would leave the parking area, willingly, in another vehicle.

I've said before, someone could have been feigning they needed help. Maybe saying someone was in their car needing aid. Cheryl could have gone over and been pushed/pulled into the car, or gotten into the car willingly and then the perp took off.

Or it may have looked like she went willingly, if the perp held her at gun or knife point.

Alright. I am home. I spent awhile in MLT today. I started at the corner of her street and traveled to where her car was found which was near the entrance of the trail that leads to the transit center. I did walk the trail and the little trails that go off into the park. I had never been there before, but found it to be a nice place. I didn't get any weird vibes at all. Perhaps it had been cleaned up but I saw nothing unusual or sketchy about the place.

I was thinking that even if it was not all the way light out she has likely been walking that same trail for many moons since she has worked at the hutch for so many years so she was likely very comfortable. I think it's interesting that she had mentioned to friends that it was creepy- but I also think that had there been some sketchy stuff going on there it was cleared out by LE over the last few weeks which may be why it felt perfectly fine to me.

It also makes perfect sense WHY she would park there even if the transit lot was full. It is likely a lot less congested in the afternoon when she comes home if she parks near the library.

The other thing that I immediately thought of when I saw the culvert was that it could have been an "a-ha that is where I am dumping her" moment for the perp. It seems sudden and an odd place. There is a lot of traffic on that road. I have been on that road a lot even at night and it gets a fair amount of traffic since it leads into Lake Forest Park. I truly believe she was hurt/killed at her car and taken to another vehicle. I do not believe she was dumped that day. Not in the daytime. No way. I parked and watched the flow of traffic and there were just too many people going by on an average day. It had to be later on.

Sidenote, another poster mentioned that a failed kidnapping took place a little while ago. That happened in *my* neighborhood. Although, I live on the other side of the hood in which it happened I keep going back to it. I am wondering if this situation is completely random and that it is a serial killer situation in the making. I hate to say that but of course my head is spinning with ideas. Here is the video of that failed abduction:

One more thought- I could NOT believe how close the library and police station were to the trail.

This person was in it for the thrill. I have no idea who else would be so bold. It's one thing to see it on the map, but it's literally right next door. Trail. Library. Police station.

I am very sad for Cheryl. We all could be Cheryl :(

Now that my sons are not home anymore I will hug my beloved wee Maltese tight. She has only love and warmth to give...

All the more likely then that she knew her attacker and went with them willingly, or perhaps offered them a ride back to the area of her house where she was headed.

But even so, still bold, yes I agree.

Just reposting some facts that have been mentioned before, taken from Cheryl's obituary because it was fastest to find:

"She graduated from Eastern Washington University in 1985 with a degree in Chemistry. [...snip....] ...Cheryl was employed by the Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) at Fred Hutchinson in Seattle for the past 15 years".

It's been widely published Cheryl was employed there as a systems analyst.

i thought about that, but the blood in the car doesn't make sense. If there wasn't blood it would make sense someone would give her a ride or she would head some place with someone. The whole thing is driving me freaking crazy and I have to admit- I leave for work very early (sometimes as early as 330 AM- and I am pretty paranoid and on major alert right now.

where did all the sidetrails lead? i dont think she said it was creepy but moreso she had noticed sketchy people in the area at some point. it makes sense she wasnt taken there that morning since police are asking people to come forward with info for that entire week. thank you for your input and walking that path, i dont have that courage. did you see the pull in at the culvert? theres also a sex offender nearby who was charged with kidnapping, im sure they checked that out.

No, I will be here the same everyday. But will only post if we have more information. I can't see anything knew to say... I don´t know what to say and I am also very sad for the rumors that run across SM. If they are right, I understand why LE is so tight lipped and I feel very sorry for Cheryl mainly, but also for all the ones who love her. Be vigilant each and every one of you, please. We never know if and when a nasty beast crosses paths with us or with our beloved ones...

Unfortunately we do not know how old the blood is or how much was found.

But, if we assume it was fresh - if Cheryl was abducted to a different vehicle at knife or gun point, if she walked willingly, there still may have been a bit of a struggle injuring the perp/their hand. The perp may have gone back to Cheryl's vehicle grabbing her purse off the passenger seat (a usual place to put ones purse while driving) and left some blood.

Mind you, in this scenario I am envisioning two perps. The second one keeping Cheryl subdued in the other vehicle.

As a MLT resident this is a thought I often have. Cedar Way is a busy street at nearly all hours of the day. It is a main atrial connecting multiple cities to other major roads/highways (Hwy 522, I-5, I-405, Hwy 104, Hwy 99, etc; even if you're heading to the Edmonds ferry from Kenmore or something you would likely pass right over that culvert-- it is HEAVILY traveled for a multitude of reasons (heck I was driving down it to visit some friends in Shoreline shortly after Cheryl was discovered, not yet knowing what was going on [I found out later why there was a police road block, though of course I correctly assumed why it was there as soon as I saw it]). I just can't comprehend WHY you would PLAN to hide a body there, seems too risky.

it isn't heavily walked. it took a week to find her body, and even then it was only because of searchers..or maybe a day??? who knows how long... :( maybe the perp wanted her to be found? i mean you cant really see down into the wooded side of the culvert from your car, can you?

About the park: For many years, I used to walk from north MLT and down through the park each morning to catch a vanpool just before 6 a.m. It was often a little muddy from 58th to the bridge across the little stream. Once there had been a tent near the entrance to the park at the transit center. Assume a homeless person, then vacated. A couple of years ago, there was an oddball who would be laying down in the park with no sleeping bag or anything. Just in his clothes. Once, almost stepped on him as he was sleeping right in the middle of the trail. I'd called the police about it and reported it.

There are a lot of trees there. It's not used a lot. Sometimes people walking their dogs or riding a bike. It's a nice little park. A little forest in the middle of the city and nicer to us nature lovers than walking down a sidewalk (236th) on a fairly busy street (and it is a longer walk than the shortcut).

Too bad about this story. And so few facts (that are sparse). I thought we'd hear more, but alas, nothing new.

I can't imagine it was random. Nothing really adds up to support that (a random attack would probably be the last choice on a list to pick from). But, who knows. Hopefully, there is some closure on this story. You would assume that there would be more information from the coroner's office. Well, maybe not.

The Seattle Times storyline about MLT residents afraid and armed or whatever. It doesn't seem to be that way. People are going on with their lives as before. It's a nice place to live.

About your last paragraph: I saw a lot of people out about. Women walking dogs. Moms pushing strollers. I'm sure people are on high alert, but I also think plenty of people refuse to live in fear and are carrying on.
For Cheryl and her loving family I sure hope there is justice for this poor lady. Nobody deserves this.

I'm with you. I can only lurk right now... It's so frustrating going in circles with no new information.

It took a week to find her body, but we do not know if her body was in that spot the entire time.

(And maybe that is what you mean to say too - I don't really follow the part of 'or maybe a day' in your post. Which is totally on me. Non-native English speaker).

Yes. The most frustrating time in every case. Hope something will break soon.
