That video of the guy in the blue truck might also be considered a distraction to Cheryl's case?
It could be. The difference in my mind is the attempted kidnapping happened only a 15 minute drive down I-5 from MLT.

Sorry if I upset anyone by dismissing the ROK angle, however, I'm going to move on to other possibilities. I hope no one takes anything I say personally, we are all here for the same reasons.

Hi all I am very new to all this so please be gentle :) I live in MLT, in fact, my home is almost in the center of all three points of interest in this case! I work at a neighborhood grocery store where the whole family has shopped at one time or another, in fact I was made aware of the fact that Cheryl had gone missing on the Monday she went missing by a family member who was shopping for groceries! It was very sad and surreal to say the least. I mean I have smiled at her more than once and ran into her at various stores in our area! In regards to this whole insane sad mess is that she was the type of person who would help a stranger without thinking twice, give them her last dollar or the shirt off her back! She was loved and liked by all and would never hurt a fly or plan an evil plot, so I find it hard to believe she planned her own suicide or any insurance scamming plot! This type of crime is a new one for my community and I'm sure the LE is doing the best job he can while trying to ease the communities minds without throwing out TMI! That being said, in regards to them saying that the public has no reason to be worried or concerned and then retracking that to say the public needs to be aware of their surroundings and be watchful, careful and attentive! Walk with a purpose and carry your panic button! I spoke with a retired Seattle detective who shops at my store and he told me that they had to retract prior statement in order to #1- give the illusion that they are looking for someone even if they are not and #2- if there is a sicko killer on the loose and people are told not to worry and another person ends up with the same fate they won't be held liable! Yesterday I spoke with a local area policeman who told me he knows stuff but no matter how much I asked he could not tell me but what he did let loose was they have no POE they are not "looking" at any individuals in depth and he has not seen any alerts or be on the lookouts! Basically he told me they are really just waiting on the toxicology report end of story!! Which now brings me to the article I found on Sunday- let me know what you think :) has anyone else seen this? It is an article posted on the Herald.net Sunday Feb 21st in the opinion section and it is called- we must fund mental health? I really need any and all opinions on this cuz it seems I am the only one who found it?? Also when I mentioned it to the policeman he said really as in maybe she had mental health issues?? He walked away and said just keep alert it takes time????

It seems like, at least at the time this street view pic was snapped, that she parked on the driveway all the way at the back of the house with direct access to the busy street. It looked like a place someone could access easily, hide out and surprise someone. View attachment 89616

SNIPPED
I parked and watched the flow of traffic and there were just too many people going by on an average day. It had to be later on.

Sidenote, another poster mentioned that a failed kidnapping took place a little while ago. That happened in *my* neighborhood. Although, I live on the other side of the hood in which it happened I keep going back to it. I am wondering if this situation is completely random and that it is a serial killer situation in the making. I hate to say that but of course my head is spinning with ideas. Here is the video of that failed abduction:

http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2016/02/police-release-video-of-capitol-hill-kidnapping-attempt/

Awesome work. Thank you for sharing your experience - I had been wondering about traffic flow near the culvert. I had posted the attempted abduction incident on the last thread and am glad to see video was released. While there were other crimes nearby, that one was so bold it made me wonder if this person tried again in a different area /different time . The victims would not fit the same profile but maybe that did not matter. I would think video will be checked for that vehicle in the area and they will be able to confirm. I would also think that CD would react the same way - scream / fight which would draw attention but maybe this time he got out. It could be totally unrelated but I thought if it was worth consideration.

Her mom and dad live in Lynnwood and she lived in MLT, I've worked at my store for a very long time so whoever was visiting the family in my area they would shop at my store. Hope that helps I really don't want to give personnel info so that's the best way to explain it ;)

i thought about that, but the blood in the car doesn't make sense. If there wasn't blood it would make sense someone would give her a ride or she would head some place with someone. The whole thing is driving me freaking crazy and I have to admit- I leave for work very early (sometimes as early as 330 AM- and I am pretty paranoid and on major alert right now.

I'm not sure that it has been confirmed that the blood or cuts were new. While I too am inclined to think they were related to events that morning - they may have been old. Based on what has been written, it sounds like she enjoyed the outdoors - hiking , hunting - etc so cuts/blood may have been from activities associated with those things.

Welcome to Websleuths bulldogs4evr, and thanks for your input from a local perspective.

It seems we have quite a few MLT locals, it has been nice to get pics and input from the area.

I don't see that parking near the trail would ever be so crazy you couldn't find a space. It's not that bad at all.

I did not see any cabs but I just opened up my uber and Lyft apps and they are around the area right now. Not sure if she would ever use those- but anything is possible.

Thank you - and I am crossing that theory off the list as I doubt she'd use a ride if parking isn't that bad. It would seem more of a hassle than driving back herself . At my P&R there are one or two marked taxis that sit around as well as one person that works independently and who I've seen sit at grocery stores. He drives people to/from shopping - mostly elderly and he's known. I thought perhaps the same may apply but it does not in this case.

Above BBM...I think that is a letter that a reader wrote rather than an article? And welcome!!

A lot of home-based businesses just employ the owner and will say "1-4" employees but only actually have 1-2 (owner, possibly spouse depending on type of business). My past businesses say the same info, but they've only employed me. I don't have any inside information about CD's business though so I guess it's possible.

I didn't mean to imply it wasn't anything of importance. You could be completely on to something. Just writing to say it could also be just her in business. :) I don't know anymore than the next person who ultimately got Cheryl. :(

Welcome bulldogs! This does not appear to be an article written by an employee of the paper, but rather a letter written by a reader of Herald.net. As I read it I don't think the writer is attempting to infer that Cheryl had mental issues. I interpret this to mean that the writer believes whoever did this to Cheryl must be suffering from mental illness or substance addiction and that funding should be extended for mental health/substance addictions in order to avoid these types of crimes. Just my opinion though....

I'm not sure how much I can say without quoting SM, so if any portion of this needs to be edited, let me know and I'll correct it to adhere to all policies.

---------

There is now a lot of consistency to the SM posts backing/confirming the one (KWWL) that was recently found by a fellow sleuther.

If the rumor is true, a lot of our theories are invalid. And we probably won't receive updates until the other agency has done their investigation.

Interesting information for sure. It almost sounds as if something was divulged at the funeral, doesn't it ? I'm not sure sure when you got involved with this case, but way back on thread #1, I had a possible theory and profile I tossed out there. It was embraced by some and rejected by others. I'd be interested in knowing your take on it. I still think this is a pretty good possibility, with what little evidence we do know.

The most often asked question was, "What about the blood found in the car". That wasn't included in the original theory. My answer: It was possibly blood left at an earlier time, or, it may turn out to be blood from another source, such as a package of chicken or pork chops that got sat down in the seat at one time or another. The car was 28 years old-----plenty of possible sources during that time frame to explain blood being found. As far as I know, the blood was said to have been sent off for analyzing and it hasn't been confirmed to be hers one way or the other.

Thread #1----post #1011 (It is showing up on my page 51)
