Brand-new armchair detective here with 20+ years of experience watching Law & Order and a fascination with reading true crime books in bursts, and then nothing for months or years. I apologize for bringing up things possibly already answered, as I don’t have time to read every post. Some of my questions are not meant to point fingers at anyone, so if any of my questions seem pointed, it’s not intentional. These are just questions I ask keeping an open mind and hoping to get concrete answers to circumstances surrounding this woman’s death. I shop frequently in the general region of these happenings so have a personal safety interest, as well. HOME SURVEILLANCE: Was the home surveillance system in place for a long while, or only recently installed? Could the setup be manipulated so it could be a day off, or some such? Were several days’ worth of comings and goings watched? Was CD wearing the same clothing leaving the home 2/8 as the day found? RE STEELMAN MAP: Very disturbing to me that her car was parked so far away from where she was found. RE FINGER CUTS: Were these consistent with a razor? We know she had self-inflicted cuts, but were they definitely from the razor? Was in a razor blade, or like a hand-held disposable from a women’s package? RE BLOOD ON FLOOR OF CAR: I read where this accumulation was more significant. Was this blood determined to be old? Does forensics have the ability to test age of found blood? Was CD car a one-owner, purchased used? Could the blood be from an event totally unrelated to CD? MISSING CELLPHONE & ID: She seems like a well-educated, smart lady. If she did this to herself and didn’t want to be found or identified straight away, seems she would have gone far out of the area to do this. If she did this she did it within a short span of her home and car. Why bother disposing of her own cellphone and ID? Makes no sense to me. PLASTIC BAG: Does placing a thin plastic bag over one’s head do the trick quickly? Seems our natural reflexes would take over and our hands would rip off the bag once the air supply is gone. FAMILY: Do the husband and son have a good relationship? Do the husband and CD’s mom have a good relationship? FRIENDS: Did she have a “best friend” or acquaintances only? A sister? A lover? A confidante? METRO BUS: Her Metro pass wasn’t used, but she could have used cash. Who does that? Do the buses have dash cams, and were these thoroughly checked out for 2/8/16? WORK: Was everything okay at work? Professionally? Personal relationships with co-workers? HOME: How was her relationship with her husband? -----My gut instinct tells me that this is not suicide. It seems like too much work and to many questions for it to be suicide. ASPHYXIATION & FRESH WATER DROWNING: To be determined as the cause of death, do they need to act in tandem, or would they have to be done in tandem? Could the asphyxiation happen in one place, then the body then placed in the fresh water? FOLDED GLASSES: This is odd. As a glasses wearer, the first thing that goes flying when roughhousing with a dog or child can be the glasses. Seems these would have either been a plant, or CD herself (so I keep an open mind about suicide). DRUGS IN SYSTEM: This was definitely ruled out, right? BACK TO RAZOR: Would someone contemplating suicide make first attempts on fingertips or wrists? Would a person with personal intent chicken out, look around car for a bag to place over their head, stuff in a pocket, trek to the culvert area, place bag AND lay face down into winter cold water? I don’t think so.
She couldve thought the bag wouldnt be painful vs bleeding out or that bleeding out wont meet her goal. Also, couldve been in sitting or standing position before passing out and landing face down. But then i think shed have face bruising. So, maybe the water rolled her body....whether it was suicide or homicide.

Didn't want to be found or identified1) left her badge 2) parked in an unusual spot? 3) shut her phone off 4) dumped her phone 5) dumped her wallet 6) walked some distance 7) hid in a culvert.

Troubling
1) razorblade in your pocket!? Really? Not in my 50 years. 2) Glasses folded on or near body

I do not want to believe it's suicide but wrestling with the possibilities of these items. I'm sure there are more examples.

How could any of these prevent her from being identified when she is the only woman missing in MLT?

How, exactly do people think she did this without drugs? I wouldn't believe someone who was actually depressed committed suicide like this. It doesn't make sense.

For those who think this must be murder, it is important to apply the same standards as to why you think it isn't suicide. I would ask the following questions:

- Do you think it would be possible to confront, lure and kill a woman and transport her body a mile and half away without leaving any physical evidence? There are no outward signs of struggle on the body, no defensive wounds, no indication that she fought or was overtaken in some way. Could a murderer be so sophisticated that they could accomplish this murder without leaving any trail?

- By the accounts of her family, this is a woman that has no issues. Everyone liked her, she was kind, loving and well adjusted. There are no reported issues with her husband or family. She adopts hard to adopt animals and is deeply cared for by those who know her. Those are the reasons that some would say she would not commit suicide, but by the same account, don't they apply to someone killing her intentionally?

I would be interested to understand from those who firmly believe that it is not suicide, how they answer the above questions. I waiver from day to day and the new info doesn't seem to firmly place any of us in one camp or the other.
All it takes is a gun or knife. Also, most people in emergencies freeze. Also, they could have incapacitated her, put her in their car, then gone back to grab things in and around her car.

That is a weird thing...the razor was found on her person, but not her phone or her wallet. If she wanted to divert suspicion, or make it look like murder...surely she would have disposed of the razor since it wasn't even used in her death. If she had sound mind enough to dispose of her wallet and phone? Though I doubt a person would want to commit suicide and not have their body identified, so it seems strange to me she'd get rid of her phone and wallet for that purpose.
Here's a potential scenario re: razor blade: She needs a razor blade to shave matted fur off her new cat. The only razor blades in her house are the handled disposable type that she shaves legs/arms with (and the handled type would be difficult to utilize for this kitty chore). Husband doesn't use a razor at all. Mentions to co-worker she needs just a razor blade and why. Co-worker brings one and CD puts in a pocket?? Maybe doesn't have time to use the razor on cat the weekend prior to 2/8 and forgets blade is in her pocket?

I could see if it was suicide maybe she did think no one would find her in the culvert.....I'm still having a hard time thinking it was suicide though.

The razor blade still baffles me. She may have used it for something, (ex: maybe to change her license plate tabs) thinking she would dispose of it later and forgot about it. My husband had done this once and I went to get something from his coat pocket and almost cut my finger. Luckily I touched the back side of it. I was furious with him for being so careless.

Perhaps she didn't anticipate being reported missing before she was discovered. And if she was like probably 50% of the people that didn't show up for work and no one hunts their husband down to ask, remain "missing" till late that evening.

Could she have had alcohol in her system?

Or would that show up in her toxicology report after her being missing from the 8th through the 14th?

IMOO.

Gosh I would hope under that scenario, she would have had enough sense to wrap it in tissue or something. I guess we don't know, maybe it was...?

I quite agree. I don't think she went to great lengths to not be found or identified.

Cheryl's phone was powered down shortly after her last text.

Cheryl mentioned to the car pooler to go on without her.

The car pooler asked how long it would take to get the badge, and Cheryl answered ten minutes.

" “Just go without me,” the text said. “I’ll probably ride home with you.” "

http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20160216/NEWS01/160219330

Cheryl mentioned that she Probably would ride home with car pooler. Probably is an uncertainty, imoo, as probably is not 100 percent.
Why wouldn't Cheryl just say that Cheryl Will ride home with the car pooler? Instead it is not an absolute. Why even say that she will ride home with the car pooler at all, if Cheryl knew that Cheryl would be back in ten minutes and catch a ride with the car pooler?
The sequence of the texts could hold that answer, though, BUT Cheryl's phone was powered down after the last text? Why?

Either Cheryl powered down that phone herself, or some one else did. How could someone else do it in that short time span of car being seen on video at 7am and last text at 7:02am, and With her car doors locked and secured?

IMOO.

I think stryker said she didnt usually lock her doors. Which means shed arrive with doors unlocked. But your question still stands.

Thanks. You're right. If someone brought it for her, you'd think they'd have the decency to hand it over in a state so as not to injure her. And she could grab something at work and wrap it a bit. So this theory of mine is kind of blown. :blushing:

It would be in her system. Her body wouldn't continue to metabolize it after death, as far as I know.

Curious to where we can see them searching (searching what) with no gloves on. Do you have a link?
I had asked the same thing about the gloves. I had seen a image of three or more searchers in red jackets standing at the culvert with no gloves. Someone here posted the photo. I dont know who.

I meant getting a kitty may have shown she was in a good frame of mind! Of course she had many things to live for!

Well if the kitten came from a breeder, it was probably pre-arranged.

I think we have 1000 people here that are living proof that people don't just mind their own business :) If one of us busy bodies had noticed her we would have probably video'd it ourselves. There are numerous ways to walk to the culvert from 58th. Main road with lots of traffic, cameras and mostly sidewalks and residential neighborhoods with no sidewalks. Most folks walking through those neighborhoods at that time would most likely be walking west not east. west is where all of the community transit, stores and activity are. Would be a little curious to see someone walking toward the east where there are just houses and apartment complexes.

im lazy so if I was going to off myself I would drive to the culvert area, why did she park so far away if she planned on taking a dip in ice water with a plastic bag over her head ? it just does not make sense..

Definitely prearranged for quite awhile. She had been planning on getting the new kitty since sometime after one of her other kitties died in September. She wanted to wait until after her January vacation. It wasn't a kitten though.

they sell combs for dogs and cat with a razor in it for de-matting dogs and cats.
much easier than a razor blade

The way I am reading the article is that at 7:02 CD texted, friend texted back, she texted back it will take 10 minutes to go get the badge. At 7:30 carpooler texted back and phone was powered off. Reads to me that is somewhere between 7:02-3 and 7:30 the phone was powered off? Were there later details that I am forgetting?
