So we are suppose to believe that Cheryl with her degree in Chemistry placed some critter blood of unknown source in her car and then barely sliced 2 fingers to staged the scene, then completed the suicide a mile down the road ?... I dont know why but I just can't go there and I have tried...

My main resistance to the suicide theory is I don't know of any woman who would willingly enter that culvert, much less choose to end her life there. The culvert looks like a disgusting tunnel full of river rats and roaches. It's basically like choosing to kill yourself in a landfill.

The stream that runs through the culvert is called Lyon Creek. Lyon Creek passes right by Cheryl's house. I wonder if she possibly entered the creek somewhere upstream, and her body was stopped by the brambles/grasses at the mouth of the culvert.

To locals who are familiar with the stream, would that have been possible?

(Link to an excellent map posted by Otto, showing the path of the creek:

I sincerely doubt that killers rely on the lack of PERFECT certainty in determining homicide vs suicide because it is VERY hard to leave no evidence of a homicidal act. There are always wounds, bruises, torn clothing, toxicological evidence, trace evidence etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locard's_exchange_principle

If you want to be a successful killer, you need to ensure the body isn't ever found. I'll stop there - we're constantly trying to think of ways to outsmart ourselves (this is the logical extension to spending much of your time finding bodies.... thinking up new ways to hide them)

I also kinda think, that if a killer who is planning on killing you, because they saw you as a threat to them or potential future problem, regarding something the victim could have knowledge about, or something along those lines, they dont just want you dead, they need you dead, as in, make it appear like a suicide, so case is closed.

With all due respect, those of us not at the scene are not in a position to know where the tape should have been. Those on scene make that decision based on what evidence they think they need to process. As I said, IF the body was wholly in the culvert/creek, on the west side, there is no need to tape off the scene unless there is evidence to process or any need to work there, without interruption.

There's no minute inspection of every blade of grass. Obvious evidence is obvious. One reason might be to close an area off to search for shell casings (not in this case). But once the body is removed from the water, if there is no indication she went in that side, and no evidence to process, then there's no need for the tape.

It is certainly not automatic that the area around a body is taped off. It depends on how access needs to be controlled and what is going to be done there. And what visible evidence/clues there are.

I've worked MANY death scenes where we didn't put tape up.

And we rarely put tape up overnight. You get in, process/search the scene, and get out. Leaving tape up overnight would be pointless unless staffed by police/SAR to keep people out. I do recall one scene we did leave a deputy overnight, with tape, because we couldn't start the scene search until early the next morning.
ok we now they had the west side taped off that night but what are the fire truck ladder doing looking for something in a tree or are they just up there supplying light ws12743867_1110735948945121_5524731094239002773_n.jpgws 12733504_1110735958945120_2967414975693585190_n.jpg images are from City of Mountlake Terrace Government

I've read your posts with probably a different interest than most. Interesting wording on this.

What quieter way than this, could you kill someone and have it look like a simple suicide? I say simple, b/c the "why?', the questions, the method, the everything, the killer doesnt have to give the victim a "story" and write suicide notes. The killer wouldn't make it bloody, or add pills to the mix, pills she doesnt even take. That would leave other questions...and likely more evidence.

Who was the first.person inside her car after it was found?

See my thinking would be to leave the phone and the keys locked in the car. Did someone get into the car before the police did?
We usually hear these stories ....car found phone and keys left in the car

Me too - when the person responsible for testing returns this week and continues with testing...... I think we will realize that all of those pages regarding blood were a result of an inaccurate term being used. I will go out on a limb and further speculate that the matter under review has nothing to do with CDs death.

This is where I am also.
I don't think there was an injured animal or animal blood planted.

I am lost. Can you elaborate as I am not getting it? Thank you :)

Some people new to the thread might not know any answers to those questions.

I am not sure what you mean but if you are referring to my comment about the blood not being planted or an injured animal, I think that the testing will reveal it is from the raw cat food.

If it is homicide, then we should probably focus on why the killer would go to such lengths to make it appear that it could be suicide. All along, I have felt that if it was homicide, it would have to be someone who knew her well. A random killer or one that didn't have much connection with her would have no need to make it seem like suicide. They would not need to delay her body being found. They would not need to make it appear she is missing. And if it was someone close to her, then they would have to know that so many people would resist the idea of suicide (no outward evidence of the normal risk factors for suicide). Someone close to her would have to know that suicide would be a tough sell.

I think that when this is solved (and I think it will be) many of the factors that we are looking at will be mere coincidences such as the animal blood, self inflicted finger wounds, etc. The reality is probably more simple than what we "know". I think it will: 1- the perfect, well planned murder; 2 - the not perfect, but extremely lucky murder or 3 - a suicide that looks planned well, but in reality made perfect sense to CB.

We know that it was said that the car was locked and secured. I am wondering if the car was unlocked before her husband found the car. Perhaps he locked the car, while waiting for the police?

What I am wondering is, did the police find the car locked and secured or did the husband find it that way first?

Oh, I see. To be honest I can't have an opinion about what could that blood be, but I feel that this and other things that appear so strange and complex have a very simple explanation. Hopefully we will see it when the crime is solved. I believe it will be solved and I still strongly believe Cheryl was murdered :(

My dad was the first to locate the car after informing the police my mom was missing. The officers trying to locate her car knew it was a Subaru and assumed it was the station wagon type, when in fact it was a sedan. So while they were searching my dad was able to locate it before them. He did not go inside, or touch the car after he located it.

Also some new info for you guys. Police found nothing of value on my moms computers to assist their investigation.
