WA - Civil rights activist Rachel Dolezal pretending to be black, parents say #2

  • #201
It all comes down to, for me at least, her lies about being a victim. The hate crime lies do the same thing lies about rape do - they cause skepticism where none should be and make it harder for real victims to achieve justice.

Also, such lies help to instill fear and make people think there is division when there might not be.

How she identifies is irrelevant to me. Lying and false accusations are very relevant however, especially now as black people in this country continue to face incredible hurdles and hatred or biases that can result in injury and even death.

Here, here, I agree imo from her own words (posted up thread) the daily burden of speaking for blacks was enough to shut down my interest in anything else she had to say. As an adverage white woman not much attention there. But as a light skinned blue eyed black woman every place she went she was noticed. Lie upon lie she must have had evernote just to keep track. The conversations about how she identifies as black sends the truth off the rails and creates a sideshow. She is a liar who manipulated people and used there emotional support for her own gain. In this case the race card is the joker. Jmo

Why black women feel so betrayed by Rachel Dolezal
The American civil rights activist accused of 'pretending' to be black touched a deep nerve for those still suffering from racism
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/gen...women-feel-so-betrayed-by-Rachel-Dolezal.html
As she donned fake tan, African braids and walked with pictures of her "fake" black dad and son in her bag, she reduced blackness to a costume, to an act, a game. She reduced our humanity and perpetuated centuries of cultural appropriation, gaining status and monetary pay offs in the process. By claiming to have personally experienced anti-black racism, Rachel Dolezal misled the black community about her expertise and made a mockery of black women’s lived experience of oppression. She usurped her voice for ours whilst simultaneously claiming to be "consistently committed to empowering marginalised voices." Further, she disqualified herself as an ally.

Dolezal used the injustices suffered by others for her own gain
http://www.abqjournal.com/604527/no...ices-suffered-by-others-for-her-own-gain.html
Even though she says she is “living my truth,” Rachel Dolezal has lied and lied and lied. And they were the worst kind of lies. She stole a story that was not hers. She stole a history of oppression and wore it like someone playing dress-up.

So what? some people ask. Didn’t she do good work? Aren’t we all the same under the skin?

Well, it’s all about the skin. The hashtag #transracial was trending right alongside #RachelDolezal as many people compared Dolezal slipping into a new identity to Caitlyn Jenner slipping into a bustier. Except, and here’s the catch, it doesn’t go the other way. Black people can’t pretend to be white when police raid the pool party, as black Twitter users said in sharply pointed posts.

There was a question about dogs and here's a quote:

Common to the origin and development of many breeds is a founder event involving only a few dogs and, thereafter, reproductive dominance by popular sires that conform most closely to the breed standard. These restrictive breeding practices reduce effective population size and increase genetic drift, resulting in the loss of genetic diversity within breeds and allele frequency divergence among them. For example, in a genetic study of 85 breeds, Parker et al. (2004) showed that humans and dogs have similar levels of overall nucleotide diversity, 8 × 10-4, which represent the overall number of nucleotide substitutions per base/pair. However, the variation between dog breeds is much greater than the variation between human populations (27.5% versus 5.4%). Conversely, the degree of genetic homogeneity is much greater within individual dog breeds than within distinct human populations (94.6% versus 72.5%).

http://genome.cshlp.org/content/15/12/1706.full

So, the general level of genetic diversity across all dogs is comparable to that of humans. However, purebred dog breeds are much closer to the genetic definition of separate races than human populations in two respects: they differ more from other breeds than human populations differ from other human populations, and the dogs of the same breed are more similar to each other than humans of the same population are. Getting to this point required lots of intentional inbreeding efforts. But let them run free and mate with whoever they want to and in a few generations every dog is a mongrel.

The gist of Today’s interview was, “Set the record straight: are you white or black?” Sure, that’s fun, gossipy, built-for-Twitter question, but it ignores the fundamental issue here: “Why should we trust anything you say if you’ve been lying for a decade?!”
Here’s another one “Today” should have asked Ms. Dolezal, who’d applied for the civilian police oversight board in Spokane. “Ms. Dolezal, given you’ve frequently cast yourself as a victim of racial bias seemingly at every possible turn and, some say on fabricated reports, if you’d been presented with a case in which a black citizen alleged discrimination against a white officer, would you immediately have assumed there was racial bias or would you have examined whether the evidence supported a claim of racial bias? If your application for a position of public trust contained knowingly false statements, how can citizens on the one hand, and the police on the other rely on your integrity?”

Coincidentally, the current Reader's Digest has a rather lengthy (for RD) article on racial constructions and their consequences.

The studies cited show that people who believe in essentialist (i.e., biological) definitions of race tend to be less creative, less inventive and less tolerant than those who believe in non-essentialist (i.e., socially constructed) definitions of race. The article concludes that we must give up essentialist definitions if we are to achieve racial harmony.

Although I find this result interesting, I don't think it means anything in terms of the beliefs of posters in this thread. We are too small a sample.

FWIW…..

A link to a fascinating (and sad, and appalling) article about racial identification and much more, dating from a court case in the 1920’s. The case was Rhinelander v. Rhinelander, about the marriage of Alice Jones (poor, and not as white as she needed to be) and Kip Rhinelander, millionaire, potential heir to the second largest fortune in NY, and as white as it gets.

The very end of the story, what happened after Alice died, will break your heart or make it sing, depending on your worldview. 

The fact that she was ordered to disrobe in court to show her "duskiness" makes me want to puke.

Yep. It's one of the most sickening things I've ever heard of that took place in a court of law. I agree with the author that Alice may have not taken the stand because she didn't want to testify about not being white. Amazing isn't it, that Kip's attorney didn't get his client's consent to do what he did, and Alice might not have agreed with her attorney's "strategy."

In any case, there's no way she wanted to do what he asked of her. Her last word on the matter was what she asked to be put on her epitaph. I read elsewhere that she never took off her wedding ring, and was buried wearing it.

From that article:
Joshua’s wife, Amy Palanjian , on Tuesday railed agaisnt her sisters-in-law for dragging her husband's honest name through the mud.
‘His sisters’ lies have hurt an innocent man and his family, and they do a disservice to all true victims of sexual abuse,’ she told BuzzFeed.

That's how Rachel works, apparently, as this mirrors how her own false claims do a disservice to victims of racism.

I hope he really is innocent then.

If I was a juror I'd have a really hard time convicting anyone if the witness is a known fabulist.

So is your daughter a different race from all the rest of your kids if her eyes are different?

Would you say these people are all Caucasian origin then?

They do exist, and as a matter of fact, I've seen black people with blue eyes in Oakland, CA.

I think DM may be overstating the case a bit when they phrase it "cleared".

http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2015/jul/14/prosecutors-drop-sexual-abuse-charges-against-josh/

The case was dismissed “without prejudice,” meaning prosecutors can re-file the charges at a later date. Thomas Kelley, a spokesman for the Clear Creek County District Attorney’s Office, declined to say why the charges were dropped.

I think it's pretty obvious why prosecutor had to drop the charges.

I believe he is innocent and am happy for his family the case was dismissed.

Nothing about the charges ever rang true, IMO. The timing of when they were filed reeked-- when E. went to live with Rachel. The person levelling the charges has serious credibility problems of her own, and the "supporting" Ntl Geo allegations by Rachel were as absurd as they were vile.

One more RD lie about victimization exposed and put to rest.

Allegations from Rachel implied that she was assaulted because her brother was curious about black women and their bodies.
They only problem is that Rachel is white, and was not pretending to be black as a child. But she was pretending to be black when she made the allegations.
So it really was not making a lick of sense to me.
