Grrrr, I found the Inside Edition page, but it doesn't look like it is on in my area:

http://www.insideedition.com/wheretowatch/listings.aspx?state=MO

I'm in Jefferson City and locally we have CBS in JC and we have NBC and ABC out of Columbia, MO.

I'm sure it will be posted online somewhere..... it will just be a matter of finding it.

sorry, I can't help, but don't live in that area.

Funny, but one of the flight attendants lived in Columbia, Missouri during the 1980's. Talk about a woman who is still spooked by that day. And I can't blame her. Being a victim of a horrific crime never goes away, especially when the perp. is never caught.

thanks Lorann

I am seriously considering suing him for libel. We have audio tapes of every conversation, and we never, ever, said anything like that.

Maybe we "spiked" his drink with acid, and he couldn't remember.LOL

If you did sue. All he had to say was that was not all the converstion.Be your word against his.

Well that is interesting. Maybe I should email the Columbia stations and see if one of them would pick up the story.

From what I have read about him here, I can't see why his word would be worth much!

Just remember there is always two sides of every story. All we are hearing is one side.

that would be cool. and appreciated.

I think the KOIN story did a good job explaining the crime, the investigation or lack thereof, the interview with H-bach, mayfield, etc.

It also explained how the statute of limitations for air piracy would have run out in 1976 if the feds had not indicted Cooper under a "john doe" indictment. that sure was interesting.

"The only thing about Inside Edition is that Mayfield accuses us of asking him to lie and tell everyone he is Cooper.

I am seriously considering suing him for libel. We have audio tapes of every conversation, and we never, ever, said anything like that."

And I hope you did share with Inside Edition the info that you have tape recordings of all conversations and also that there were two of you there during all interviews.

I would think Mr. Mayfield is sweating bullets along about this time. The spotlight is solidly on him.

If you were to sue him, it would be for slander - which is the spoken word. Libel is the written word. I recently had occasion to look up "slander" and "libel" on the www.wikipedia.com site. Very informative articles there.

If I were an FBI agent in the Portland office, I would be chomping at the bit to get a look at the files on this case! I think the "cloud" of "J. Edgarism" is now long gone from the FBI. left, you would enjoy reading the book, which I bought at Goodwill for $1.00.

For out-of-print books at very, very reasonable prices, visit www.alibris.com.

Hey LC!

Just got some free time - did you know Mayfield runs an aircraft business out of that location (scroll down):

Sunrise Aviation Corporation

They were the representatives for the Hiperlight biplanes he was flying.

I should say "ran" - Oregon dissolved the Corporation in 2002 for failure to file with the Secretary of State.

Time to make a phone call!

Adnoid: You sure do get the scoop.

Ya, I knew he built ultralites and sold them in the late 90's, and I think they went belly up.

In the 70's, he had businesses called Pacific Parachute Corp., Sheridan Flying Services, and one other.

Today, he basically repairs airplanes, Cessna's, repaints, mechanical, etc. Must kill him he can't fly them anymore.

He does have an ultralite, the one on the video. However, those only get to what, 70 knots or so, and only have a range of about 100 miles I believe.

He loves airplanes, skydiving, always has, always will. Hmm. someone else knew a lot about airplanes.

good job

ps Remember he got popped in 1977 for stealing an airplane from California. Well, put together the puzzle. Heck, one Cessna, say a 1956 is still worth 70,000 dollars today. Imagine, Imagine, Imagine

I just listened to he last KOIN segment. It really ticked me off. Why even bother with the story if the anchors were just going to laugh it off at the end?

Grrrrrrrrr People JUST. DON'T. LISTEN.

Duh! That's why he got away for so long!

I know, they burned this bridge

My media consultant told me that KOIN did that because they were afraid of being sued by Mayfield.

think about it, if the story is not believeable, why do a three part series about it during sweeps week? Either they have no credibility, or they are protecting their buts, or the anchors did it on their own. Remember, "I could have been an actor, but I wound up here". good old Don Henley.

Left, since scandi called and everyone was friendly and interested, have you considered calling the local FBI office and request a meeting? After the ET thing though. I am sure you have much more than what was on the videos, things, because you have been researching and interviewing for so long, that they don't have access to. You are the public coming forth with info on a crime - and just because the old agent didn't listen to the public, perhaps the newer generation will? It is clear you and your buddy did all this work and the ones responsible for pinpointing the one responsible. Maybe there is someone there that will listen but perhaps they can't come to you - you need to go to them. Just a thought. I want you guys to get the credit for not only exposing him but for seeing him put away - after all, he is getting older.

All those things require an FAA certificate. It's called an "A&P" for "Airframe & Powerplant", and all repairs and work done on any aircraft with a type certificate (i.e. not an ultralight) must be signed off by an A&P with a valid certificate for the plane to be legally airworthy.

For instance, with my Airman's Certificate I can add fuel and oil, but that's it. If I owned the plane I could also change the oil & spark plugs and some other minor stuff, but I could not change out an alternator or magneto even though I know how to do it.

So in other words, he shouldn't be working on planes? when we have been there, he has always had Cessna's and other planes torn apart. They are not ultralites. As a matter of fact, he was putting in some new electronics in a Cessna one time, like a guage, an instrument for artificial horizon. that type of thing.

Last time, his wife and him were using kerosen or something on a wing, and repainting it or something.

You see, people can fly in to his place, and I know some people store their planes on his property. He is even selling one plane now, a plane in someone else's name.

Just google his phone number, and it will list the Cessna, and how much it cost, etc. The tail number is listed in another person's name, but, so was his house a couple of years ago, so , that doesnt' mean squat.

Adnoid

Is it possible he is a "A and P" designated mechanic or whatever. Can that be verified. He sure does eye people when they pull into his lot.

KOIN mentioned his status in the community (in detail), but did not mention his various crimes or their serious nature.

WTH was the point of mentioning that someone else's pic was identified as the closest match by facial recognition software, when they follow that up with the fact that Mayfield's photo wasn't included!?!?!?!

Ridiculous reporting. I hope that people see how dumb that last KOIN segment was. But since viewers weren't given all the facts.... it's unlikely.

You are right. I can't disclose everything. But, I will tell you that we have been in contact with the authorities

My only goal has been to solve this case. IF it isn't him, fine, but until he is investigated by the fBI, how in the world can they say it isn't him?

Obviously, the current FBI doesn't show their hand, so , I don't know what is going on.

But, I think the more people who call the Portland office, the better chance we have. I don't have a vendetta, I just want him checked out, either charged or cleared.

good thought

That's why I was so surprised when I did the Google Earth fly over that not only did Sunrise Aviation loom above the ground, but also Ted's in bright red!! Did he post that location????
