Duane Miles had last been in verbal contact with friends on 18 October 2021. Duane was going to go on a day hike to beat incoming foul weather on 19 October 2021. Duane was seen by a friend driving his vehicle south on Highway 101 near Kalaloch on 19 October 2021. Duane Miles was reported missing by family on Saturday, 23 October 2021. Duane's vehicle was located at Graves Creek Campground. The search efforts for Duane Miles began on 23 October 2021 and included 30 personnel led by Olympic National Park. The search transitioned to a limited continuous search effort on 1 November 2021
