I know the family has speculated as to Clemmons mental state. But I am wondering about possible drug abuse. The armed robberies, could have been to support a habit. The delusions and the 'naked family' business could very well have been because of drug abuse. Also the increasing anger. And yeah, I think he didn't want to go to prison for life, so thought he might as well get the death penalty as well as some 'payback' to the ones who were imprisoning him. It wouldn't matter if it was the same department, as long as they wore a uniform.

In many families, there is a family distrust of LE. And even if the family is dysfunctional, they will still cover for a family member, before they will cooperate with LE on anything. It is sort of an us or them attitude. Plus, they may really think the guy is mentally ill, and he is physically injured and if so then they may be thinking that he doesn't deserve to go to prison. They are probably also worried about his physical safety since he murdered LE officers. They may be afraid that LE will retaliate, and if they don't then he will most likely face the death penalty. So they think they have to protect him.

I'm sensing this is getting ugly... race/religion card?

Wouldn't be the first time the relatives said what a good guy the suspect was, and how everyone else was at fault.

OAKLAND — Oakland officers offered their support and sympathy as the Lakewood Police Department in Washington mourned the shooting deaths of four of their own.
"The members of the Oakland Police Officers Association are horrified" by the shooting, President Dom Arotzarena said in a written statement. "Unfortunately, the loss of four officers is all too familiar to us here at the Oakland Police Department. Our department is continuing to heal from the events of March 21, 2009.
"We have been in contact with our brothers and sisters in Washington. We stand ready to provide any guidance or assistance when called upon."

I'm in the Scanner thread in the Parking Lot....

Officer Troyer has said to quit speaking about their tactics but in the PL I feel safe enough to do it.

There are several things going on tonight. There's a shakedown. He will be caught. He HAS to. I'm only 7 miles from Renton for crying out loud!! lol

That's funny... on the local news tonight it was about Oakland mocking the Lakewood PD and how they shouldn't be doing paperwork in a coffee shop and should have that done, and that because of the recent Oakland situation they should have been on the ball more. That was upsetting to me. That police department in Lakewood is new and overwhelmed. It's a busy community. :(

Hi Gibby, It is really good to have you here. Back in the late 60's I lived in Parkland at PLU and then off campus. Back then Lakewood was like a quaint little bedroom for McChord AFB families and it seemed there were a lot of what we called back then trailers in small parks thruout the town. It must have really changed. Well, 40 years or so can make a big difference, right LOL

I was wondering how Oakland LE was feeling after all they had gone through in March. Here is background from Wikipedia for those of you unfamiliar with what happend:

2009 shooting of Oakland police officers
Location Oakland, California, USA
Date Saturday, March 21, 2009
1:08 p.m. (PDT)
Attack type Shootout
Weapon(s) SKS, semiautomatic pistol
Death(s) 5 (4 officers, 1 perpetrator)
Injured 1
Perpetrator Lovelle Mixon

The 2009 shooting of Oakland, California police officers took place on Saturday, March 21, 2009, when four Oakland police officers were killed by a convicted felon wanted on a no-bail warrant for a parole violation. The convicted felon, Lovelle Mixon, shot and killed four Oakland police officers, two during a routine traffic stop and two when SWAT team officers attempted to apprehend him two hours later. Mixon staged an ambush of the police from his hiding place and was killed in a barrage of gunfire as officers returned fire in self-defense.[1]

The killings made it one of the worst days for law enforcement in California history. It was the single deadliest attack on California police officers since the Newhall massacre in 1970, when four California Highway Patrol officers were shot and killed by two men in the Santa Clarita Valley. It was also the deadliest attack on U.S. law enforcement since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.[2][3] This incident brings to 51 the total number of Oakland police officers killed in the line of duty since 1867.

As for them "mocking Lakewood", I would hope it was more concern and disbelief that the officers would have gathered and briefed for their shift in a public place. I don't think any officers would feel safe doing that in many areas of Oakland. Although I know there are some nicer areas also. I used to work in Oakland and the wal from the BART station was a bit dicey, but the downtown business district was nice. Great shopping and restaurants.

Seattle, Washington (CNN) -- Investigators searching for the suspected killer of four Seattle-area police officers have rounded up several of his relatives and friends to keep them from helping him escape, a sheriff's spokesman said Monday.

Police have brought in five or six relatives and other acquaintances of Maurice Clemmons, "and we expect that number to grow," Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Some of Clemmons' family and friends have been trying to help him elude police and seek treatment for a gunshot wound, and they have tried to divert investigators by calling in false leads, he said.

It's not just shelter, transportation and bandages that the family is providing:

"But Clemmons, 37, remains a dangerous threat to police: Detectives have learned he has access to any number of weapons, including long guns, rifles, shotguns and handguns, Troyer said. He declined to elaborate.

"He's armed, he's wounded and he knows there are warrants for four counts of murder" that have been issued for his arrest, Troyer said of Clemmons."

You know what? I'm scared to even let my daughter go to school in the morning. This is just too close to home and he COULD be here. This state is FILLED with forestry; even the little island I am on could hide someone for a long time. Though I am inclined to think that, if he is truly injured, he does indeed have someone helping him. Someone very sick.........almost as sick as him!:banghead:

Anyone care to venture a guess and speculate as to how long it would take the infection from an improperly treated gunshot wound to kill someone?

I just can't wrap my brain around the mindset here. Is this a well thought out plan or is this family simply reacting in a knee-jerk sort of way? What in the world can they be hoping to accomplish?

I have found almost no info on family members so I don't know their professions or social status. They can't be stupid or they couldn't pull this thing off for so long. I don't know what funds they have available (however, $15.000 isn't peanuts). I'm starting to really wonder if Maurice hasn't convinced them all that the end day has arrived and there's going to be a blaze of.....misery.....that's what.

Might want to bookmark this, it's quite helpful for the layperson.

"In short, if a patient with an acute (severe;life threatening) wound doesn't receive emergency intervention in a trauma center (an ER with a trauma team and trauma room that can be ready to operate on a patient in a matter of minutes) in 60 minutes or less, their chances of survival decrease dramatically."

Don't just read the snippet. Check out the whole thing. It was written by a medical person for an author.

What in the frickin he double toothpicks are these people thinking?? They have no place to go except he77 or prison for the rest of their lives!!!!! My God, what about their children, parents, siblings? These people can not possibly think this maniac is Jesus. What do they think the outcome of this will be? Hello, earth to maniacs....don't you know this will only lead to innocent people dying? You will eventually be caught and hopefully sooner than later. This continues to become more unbelieveable by the second.

Answer to question...not soon enough! The human body is sometimes too resilient.

Again, we are dealing with the unknown. It is not known if this is severe and life threatening, or a fleshy, messy, dripping wound that can become infected, fester, etc., but is not on its own life threatening. We can but hope that it is though. One problem. If it is life threatening and he becomes septic, he may become even more greatly hallucinatory and go on a shooting rampage. I hate to say that if he kills those aiding and abetting him I will not be upset, I just pray it will not involve other innocent victims.

There is no way to tell because we have no clue as to how serious the wound is.
For all we know it's a superficial wound and he is going to be as good as new.
