GUILTY WA - Heather Kelso, 29, & Kaden Lum, 2, shot to death, Bremerton, 28 March 2015

"The suspect was arrested at 8:30 a.m. at his workplace and booked into the Kitsap County jail on $2 million bail. He faces two counts of murder and one of first-degree assault. Law enforcement officials have not identified the suspect, but Geraldo Castro Dejesus, 30, has been booked into the Kitsap County Jail on those same counts, with the same bail. Kelso, 29, had obtained a restraining order against Dejesus on March 5. The order indicates that Kelso and Dejesus had a child together."

Restraining orders rarely work. The perp doesn't get put in jail and when they get served the restraining order all hell breaks loose.
There has to be a better way.:moo:

Yes, without a doubt, R.O.'s don't work -- a nice guy would abide by one, IMO, but the nice guys don't do things that provoke someone into getting a Restraining Order in the first place.

And the ones who are given a R.O. -- it just makes them madder. I can recall two women, in different individual circumstances, of course, who were gunned-down in their own driveways. Each case had to do with R.O.'s against them, time away from each other and the male going over to the woman's residence, them having a fight, and the man shoots the woman in broad daylight, and each woman is dead before the EMT's arrive. One was married/separated, and the other was engaged. LWOP for both men. Four lives wasted. SMH.

But what's someone to do -- as you say, there has to be a better alternative, but I cannot think of one. The woman could move out of town -- leave her job, uproot her children (if any), get out of her apt. lease or sell her house, arrive at this new town with her children, if any, no job, etc., etc., but that's not at all practical. She could buy a gun -- but that just makes it all the more dangerous, IMO. There's more to it than simply not answering her phone and not answering the door.

Yep. Restraining orders are a joke. When someone is a violent 🤬🤬🤬🤬, they will grab the RO and shove it up their mailboxes, then grab a weapon and go murder the subject of their sick obsession. Been proven over and over.

I don't know if he did it or not. This crime does not fit the guys character. He does not have a criminal history and he never abused his ex wife or kids. The guy I know would not do this. That's not saying he didn't. Protection orders in Wa. State against men pretty much require no evidence. It's just her word against his. Not trying to sully this poor woman's memory but I heard drugs may have had something to do with this. As you know drugs complicates greatly a homicide investigation. I for one will withhold judgement till the evidence is in.

DeJesus found guilty in East Bremerton killings - September 2016

A man charged with premeditated murder for plotting last year to kill his ex-girlfriend and her roommate's 2-year-old son was found guilty Tuesday on all counts by a Kitsap Superior Court jury.

As Judge Kevin Hull read the verdict against Geraldo DeJesus, 31, the father of the deceased child charged toward DeJesus and was restrained by sheriff's deputies, shaking an already tense courtroom.

Jurors deliberated three days after the lengthy trial over the homicides of 2-year-old Kaden Lum and 30-year-old Heather Kelso, DeJesus' ex-girlfriend and the mother of their daughter. DeJesus and Kelso both worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

DeJesus also was convicted of attempted murder against Kelso's friend, Mathew Dean, who was shot early March 28, 2015, as he fled the residence at the Kariotis Mobile Home Park in East Bremerton.

Jurors also convicted on another attempted murder charge, for Kaden's mother, Jalisa Lum, who was trying to shield Kaden when he was shot. Jalisa Lum did not know Kelso long and had moved in with Kaden after answering an advertisement for a roommate Kelso placed on Craigslist.
