Found Deceased WA - Jason Fox, 19, Newport, 14 Sept 2020

Newport PD is investigating the ‘suspicious’ disappearance of 19-year-old Jason Michael Fox.

His father says he hasn’t heard from Jason since last week. The father is having a surgery tomorrow, and is confident the only way his son would not be in contact ahead of that is if something was wrong.

Newport Police say because the are getting conflicting information, this is being treated as a suspicious disappearance. They are asking anyone out there who could help to call 509.447.6476.

Newport Police are treating this as a suspicious disappearance, and although they have leads, the investigation is ongoing and much of the details are private at this time, Chief Mark Duxbury said. Outside agencies are assisting with the case, including the Washington State Patrol.

He could not confirm or deny if they have suspects in mind.

In a text message thread with Jason, M. (dad) asked his son where he was. Jason responded that he was busy and forgot about their plans. M. tells him he loves him. After that message, M. said, Jason disappeared.

"I am a realist, you know, I know the odds and it may turn into a making someone pay rather than my son gets to come home," said M., tearfully. "That's a hard thing to deal with, but I don't want I don't want to screw up that aspect of it by divulging too much."

M. said he believes he will have an update to share relatively soon, but for right now he and S. (step-mom) are just trying to get through the day and sleep through the night.

The Pend Oreille Sheriff's Department "said based on evidence gathered during the investigation, this is now considered a homicide."

This is dreadful news. I was hoping he just needed some time away from his family. I wonder if the so-called last text from Jason came from him or someone involved in his homicide.

Really does not seem like the kind of guy who gets murdered, just an average teen not trying to stick his neck out over anything. I feel especially terrible for his mom. She seems totally devastated. Dad's comments lead be to believe there are leads that are currently being followed.

The investigation is now considered a homicide. Those with any information regarding Fox's disappearance or death are asked to call the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office.

A statement on behalf of his family:

The loss of Jason is a devastating blow to our family. We fervently hoped for a different outcome. We would like to thank everyone who helped to bring him home. The long hours put in by both Newport PD and Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office, taking and following up on tips provided by the public as a result of the KREM 2 segment, the thousands of shares of the Facebook posts, the instagram and Tik Tok videos, so many people helped in this difficult time and we want to thank each of them. Jason is my cousin and he did not deserve to have his life end the way it has. My family is desperate in making sure that the people who are responsible for murdering him are brought in. There are multiple suspects and there are warrants for their arrests but Newport Police have not done their part even though they know where they are located. <modsnip> Police are not doing what they need to and my family is now going to make sure that it is known what has happened since the day my cousin has went missing. As for the picture if you where to search #JusticeForJason on FB you can see a little more. My family has decided to make sure Jason's story is heard because of what was done yesterday. As you already know he went missing Sept 14th and the missing persons report was done on Sept 16th but what has not been told is that Newport PD failed to file the report until a local news station aired Jason's disappearance I believe 3 days after so Sept 19th. The family is looking into legal representation and asking for help even if you just repost we are thankful. The family has offered a $20,000 reward for any info that results in their arrests. Again we know who did it and they have warrants for their arrests but no arrests have been made. My cousin was 19 and was supposed to be starting Nursing School this month. His parents where told because he was left in the woods for 3 weeks they could not see him. We fear another family will have to endure what we are because the ppl who are responsible are still free to do whatever they want.
