this question has been niggling my brain, too...
Was JW's dad in the practice of "mentoring" all young men at the MHP?
Or was GG the only one?
and was there an incidence that JW's dad felt necessitated the mentoring?
Did GG's parents request the mentoring?
:dunno:
I dont think mentoring was meant in an official sense. I took it like JWs dad had just taken GG under his wing like many parents do with their kids friends. I know we are "sleuthing" but sometimes words are just words and not meant in a literal sense. The only instance given of this "mentoring" was teaching GG to chop wood. Mentoring means to teach. JW (dad) taught him to chop wood. My dad has taught my husband to work on cars. I guess that could be mentoring, but he was only teaching him because it was something he knew about and my husband didnt. He didnt "mentor" my husband because he had a bad home life or no one to take an interest in his interests. He "mentored" him because it was something he knew about that my husband wanted to learn. Maybe GGs step and/or biological fathers didnt have the knowledge GG wanted, but JW(dad) did. You wouldnt go to an electrician to figure out why your toilet is clogged, would you?
I was just jumping off your comment. I have seen the "mentor" question many times and everytime I go to answer it, we are already on a new thread and I kept hoping it had been answered, but alas, it was still being questioned. So, JMO, I think mentoring was just used as a more sophisticated way of saying he taught him something.
