GUILTY WA - John Hauff arrested for 8 hr. sex torture session in special chamber

Unknown about what physical evidence was found on her. She did wait a couple of days to go to LE. But whatever was found was enough that the believed her and began an investigation. Considering she was an admitted prostitute, that is a biggie.

Other bodies. A search of the property hasn't turned up any more remains.

Prior convictions. Nothing has been mentioned, and usually by now media would have them published.

Other victims. Unknown. LE has issued a request for other victims to come forward, but unknown if any have. One person commented on an article and seemed to confirm some of this happened to her. Unknown if she talked to LE. She also added some new info though.

Yeah it is a lurid story. But the fact that he made the effort and took the expense to build a "torture" room is pretty worrisome. Why make such thick walls to soundproof if he was only going to be 'working' with people who were there of their own free will? And the fact that he drove such a long distance to pick up a prostitute and then drove her back home is also worrisome. As someone else said if anyone ever reported her missing, it is unlikely that he would ever have been looked at because of the distances involved. Also was a long way and different jurisdictions between the pick up site and his home, which often confuses things in investigations.

Yup, exactly. He built a "torture room" but let the victim tell him to pull over and when unattended let her text her "boyfriend". The guy can build a torture room but NOT keep the victim from texting when she gets nervous and asks him to pull over? Right. Good planning that. A mastermind!

The evidence is flimsy at best. And a "torture room" does not equate to murder or serial killer or intent to kill or rape or non-consensual anything for that matter.

She went along, she got "spooked" and then STILL went along, there is NO physical evidence. Her word against his. All things considered show some physical evidence!

If I were on the jury he would walk based on the evidence provided. Well not just that....charges would be filed.

The guy is in his SIXTIES for gosh sake! How many killers start their careers in their 60's with NO PRIOR CONVICTIONS! Oh but he was accused of something therefore it MUST be true!

It's not her word against his. He backed up her story. He admitted that he tortured her in various ways and refused to stop when she repeatedly asked him to.

Also, there would have been no reason for him to not stop for her cigarettes on the way to his house. She was going willingly in the car. It's when the "session" became torture and he wouldn't let her go that the crime happened. And he's confessed to that part.

<modsnip>? He admitted the woman told him to stop and he COULDN'T because he was too worked up. It's in the links we provided. Do you have a link that says different?

He has priors. One being solicitation of a prostitute. Also provided at a link we looked up.

A.... He confessed.

B.... We don't know what the evidence is. We only know what has been released in the media. But I consider what is released to be pretty bad (considering he confessed and all). But when the jury is seated, they get to hear all the evidence, including info about any injuries she may have had and any other physical evidence.

C... Much of what we know the girl said has been backed up by the investigative findings (eg the torture room, it's contents, the texts etc.) which helps the girls credibility.

An excellent reminder of the facts:

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/120254324.html

"....When questioned by detectives, Hauff admitted he picked up the woman and brought her to his house for a "bondage session," investigators said. He told them the woman had asked several times to be released, but "he was so aroused that he didn't stop or release her." Hauff also admitted to having tortured the woman in several different ways...."

I'd forgotten about the rag. How many guys carry around a rag like that the first time they try something like this?

"....As the two neared Hauff's home, he took "a rag out of his pocket and put it over her mouth and the next thing she knew she was blindfolded and tied up..."

Another article about the COV request:

http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Arraignment-delayed-in-torture-room-case-1361912.php

Arraignment delayed in 'torture room' case

"....“Police discovered what can best be described as a torture room in the defendant’s home,” [Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sean] O’Donnell told the court. “Great care appears to have been invested in the room’s construction. The walls are approximately 8 inches thick, making most sounds – such as screams – emanating from inside the room almost undetectable.” The prosecutor went on to note that police recovered syringes, paddles, sexual devices and various restraints inside the room, as well as two items designed to administer electricity to the body. Also noted were a series of eye bolts on the floor and walls of the room, which support the victim’s claim of being chained around the neck and lifted.

In a request that a second attorney be added to Hauff’s case, public defender Gary Davis noted that his client could face additional charges depending what investigators find in coming days...."

Had we heard of her being "lifted"? By the neck? Oh my. It is almost inconceivable for me to believe that this was the first time this room and these instruments were used in this way. An incredible amount of thought and planning went into this set-up, IMO. Any man who had merely fantasized about this type of torture AND who is in his 60s wouldn't have gone on to torture a woman for 8 hours and be so aroused he couldn't stop. He simply must have done this many many times before. I think he's had to continuously raise the bar. I guess they are still actively looking for other victims. I wonder if Hauff is giving them information.

Torture case moves to Pierce County

"The criminal case against a 66-year-old Tacoma man accused of kidnapping, raping and torturing a prostitute he picked up in Seattle will be tried in Pierce County, a King County Superior Court judge ruled on Friday. Criminal charges were filed against John Joseph Hauff Jr. last month in King County, after the 24-year-old woman contacted Seattle police with allegations that Hauff picked her up on Aurora Avenue, took her to his Pierce County home and raped and tortured her...."

and

"...King County prosecutors said Hauff had already planned his crime when he picked the woman up in their jurisdiction, and believe they should try him. They are considering an appeal of Friday's ruling. "The state is arguing that intent was manifested in King County..."

and

"...He could have picked up a prostitute in the Hilltop area," O'Donnell said, referring to a Tacoma neighborhood that would not have required the 35-mile trip from Hauff's residence to Aurora Avenue. Hauff's alleged victim "had no idea he had this torture room back there. He did...."

and

"...The case was complicated by the fact that the victim initially consented to go with Hauff, who according to charging papers had offered to pay the woman $100 to allow Hauff to tie her up and use a sex toy on her, Prochnau said. She also allowed Hauff to blindfold her and bind her wrists during a short stop in Federal Way, the judge said. That consent ended the moment Hauff allegedly slapped a chain around the woman's neck, holding her against her will for hours, the judge said. And that happened in Pierce County...."

http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Search-warrant-reveals-more-about-torture-room-1385914.php

Search warrant reveals more about torture room case

".....A search warrant for the case, released this week in court documents, gives a few new details about the investigation. On April 26, Seattle police took tire tread impressions from Hauff’s 1998 Mercury Sable station wagon as well as the carpet and carpet pad from the vehicle. They also took tire tread impressions, DNA swabs, fingerprints and a Pepsi bottle...."

and

"...The 24-year-old victim told a detective that at Hauff's home, she was put naked on a table bolted to the floor and had a locked chain placed around her neck. The 66-year-old allegedly plucked her hairs, told her he was her master, pumped liquid into her bladder and beat her with a paddle, according to court documents. The woman told police she thought the torture lasted for eight hours...."

and

"....the woman began screaming when she had the locked chain put around her neck and cried, pleading to be let go. It states the woman asked if she was going to be hurt and Hauff allegedly responded “Yes.” Hauff allegedly said he was her master, and the woman said she didn’t want money and would walk home. Police say Hauff smirked and said, “No.....”

and

"...The victim told officers that when Hauff was driving her back he explained he was a follower of the "Gor" novels, including some volumes that describe sadomasochistic acts involving the humiliation of women...."

A very interesting decision concerning consent and deception:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2015168795_hauff28m.html?syndication=rss

Judge changes mind, rules rape case to stay in King County

"A King County Superior Court judge Friday reversed her earlier ruling and decided the case against John Joseph Hauff Jr., who is accused of raping and torturing a prostitute in his Tacoma home, will remain in King County. Judge Kimberley Prochnau based her ruling on Washington case law that had not been brought to her attention when she decided earlier this month to move the case to Pierce County...."

and

"....The heart of the debate came down to consent..."

and

In reconsidering her ruling, Prochnau reviewed California and Washington cases in which a victim's consent was given based on deception, including one Washington case from 1902. O'Donnell successfully argued that state law puts deception "on par" with force and intimidation in executing kidnappings or restraining victims against their will...."

I was just rereading our thread here. Can anyone comment about the plucking of pubic hairs? Obviously it would hurt like heck but was it intended as torture or to leave the victim hairless? Does it figure into the Gor role-playing ie are the women required to be hairless or is this a form of sexual kinkiness promoted in the books? I find it very interesting that the victim had pubic hair. Almost every single CL prostitute I've read about is shaven these days. That seems to be the norm, rather than something unique.

I also cannot get past this statement about Mary Meehan's death at the hands of Gary Ridgway:

http://www.francesfarmersrevenge.com/stuff/serialkillers/greenriver.htm

"....Several unexplainable items were found on or close to the body, including two small pieces of plastic, a large clump of hair near the pubic region of the body, a patch of skin attached to the skull, which contained fibers on it, three small bones, two halved yellow pencils and clear plastic tubing...."

Whose hair was in a clump near the victim's pubic region? Did DNA match the victim or Ridgway? Whose "small bones"? Surely they could have identified whether they were the bones of Mary's unborn child. Has that evidence been preserved? It sounds to me like Mary was tortured in some way, elsewhere, and dumped at the location she was found.

I also wonder what happened to Hauff's father's house--where there was supposedly (by records) a mission of some sort. All that is left is a driveway, very near where Hauff's business is located and just across the field from the "torture room".

If you google map S. 192nd near Sea-Tac, where Mary Meehan's and her unborn child's bodies were found, with Hauff's address, he was only 20 miles straight down I-5. Hauff's victim was picked up on Aurora Ave. N--just north of where Mary was found.

If you study the map, one can see how that 61 ft. boat might play a part.

John Hauff Pleads Not Guilty to All Charges

"Looking bedraggled but stoic in his red prison uniform and shackles, John Hauff appeared today at the King County courthouse for his arraignment. Answering "yes" each time prosecutor Sean O'Donnell asked if he understood a charge read against him, Hauff proceeded to enter pleas of not guilty to rape in the first degree, kidnap in the first degree, and assault in the second degree, all felonies..."

Will John Hauff's Gorean Bondage Fetish Set Him Free?
The alleged rape of an Aurora Avenue prostitute exposes a unique sci-fi sexual subculture.
July 13, 2011

Excruciating painful and graphic to read. It's a wonder that this young woman lived to tell the tale. Please be aware that there are many triggers here. The young woman was so traumatized, she told her mother. It takes a lot of guts to tell your mom about your travails in prostitution. Bless her heart. No telling how many women she might have saved.

ETA: An in depth article. I have many reactions and questions. I need to think about this for a while. Can I hear from someone else who's read it. I'd be very interested in your reaction. Who know that Tacoma was the Fetish Capital of the Northwest?

:eek::eek:Gadzooks! A catheter? This poor woman. John the john has some explaining to do. How much scarrier could that get?:gasp:

SteadFast, the only addy I came up with so far for this "person" is an apartment. There's got to be more addy's and sadly more victims.

OMG, I covered my mouth when I read that. I've had one of those, and it's quite painful -- and that's from a professional. OMG OMG OMG.

I'd like to see someone shove a tube down his private part and leave it there for a week!

This is worse than any horror movie I've ever heard about. Lock his arss up forever!

That poor woman. I am just heartbroken for her. What is going on in the world!!!

From March 2013:

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/rapist-in-torture-case-gets-stern-talk-steep-sentence/

King County Superior Court Judge Mary Yu made it clear on Friday that what John Joseph Hauff Jr. did to a woman for eight hours inside his homemade “bondage room” in April 2011 could not even remotely be considered sex play between consenting adults...

She then went beyond the punishment recommended by prosecutors and the defense and sentenced the Tacoma man to slightly more than 12 years in prison.

On the eve of his trial, Hauff pleaded guilty last week to second-degree rape and unlawful imprisonment with sexual motivation... Because Hauff pleaded guilty to a sex crime, he faces an indeterminate sentence in which a state board could later add additional time to his sentence and he could potentially spend the rest of his life behind bars.
