Her car was found in an area known for crime and there is public transportation near there. IMO dumped in that area because either they figured it would get stolen or go undetected since many people park there and ride the trsins/busses.

Quite possible she was killed in the park (it's very large and heavily forested, with water bordering it. ) and hidden there or in the water.

It's really sad and I feel for her mom & family. I just wonder if cameras bear the park or train station caught anything.

Were the keys left in the car that was left in a bad part of town? Leaving the keys in the car alone means "please steal me, I'm a potential crime scene but you get me free."

Three points always make a triangle, so car, phone, house triangle is not significant. Home - when and where was she last seen again? Morning after her shower?

This feels like middle of the night murder rather than late in the morning murder. If she was murder late in the morning, where would she be - a place that has sentimental meaning so she would drop her guard?

thats probably the nearest tower. If they were at the water in the park its possible. I grew up there and have been to that park almost weekly.

Is it possible that something happened between her home and her parked car, and the last phone ping was an after-thought phone-disposal to mislead police?

Where was her phone from the last conversation with her mother to turning off?

She's 33 years old, pregnant, ex-boyfriend, missing, person of interest, and she was last known to be living with her mother and step-father. At 33, did she have a job?

This has nothing to do with children communicating with parents, more about why a 33 year old pregnant woman is living with her mom.

'A spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said investigators have identified a person of interest who could be connected to the disappearance of Kassandra Cantrell, 33, but they did not name that person. ...

"We are treating this as a homicide investigation until something tells us differently," Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Ed Troyer said. "She is still missing under highly suspicious circumstances." ...

Cantrell went missing on the morning of Aug. 25 after she left her family's house in Parkland. Her mother, Marie Smith, says Cantrell had a doctor’s appointment for her first ultrasound on Wednesday and also planned to go grocery shopping, but she didn’t have any money on her and her EBT card has not been used."
Investigators suspect foul play in search for missing Parkland woman

More and more adult children are living with their parents.

In Seattle (mostly), Tacoma, and many surrounding areas apartments are typically fairly expensive. I don’t know what her past employment has been but perhaps, like many others, she couldn’t afford to rent on her own.

Maybe someone who has heard of her employment status in the past can post about that.

Apologies for jumping in late, and admittedly have not read the entire discussion. Do we have a map of car, home, grocery and phone ping location? I'm curious to have a closer look. This article specifies some locations.

Investigators suspect foul play in search for missing Parkland woman

Given the person of interest and related search warrants, it does look like that suspect could be known to the victim.
Here is her media thread to help catch up

Her mother mentioned she has an EBT card, so she likely gets SNAP. The maximum gross income for SNAP is 130% of the FPL for the assistance group size, which is just $1354 per month. So if she is working, she isn't earning much if she getting SNAP.

ETA: That's for an assistance group size of 1. Since she was over age 22, I would assume she would be her own assistance group.

True regarding SNAP, income guidelines just vary per state and the fact that she was pregnant would aid her in getting them as well (if she was low income). In my state, verification of pregnancy must be provided as proof if requesting assistance while pregnant. Not sure how it is where she’s from.

I would think the cell phone would be the last to discard as well HOWEVER.. from my unfortunate experience...whether somewhat planned or spur the moment/driven by emotion, people do not think all that clearly in the heat of the moment. IME, the assault occurs first and if the victim fights back against the assault, the phone is usually something the victim tries to reach for. The hope would be that obtaining the phone would be unnoticed by the perp.

I don’t know the stats on being successful but it’s been my experience that obscuring a phone while being assaulted is not easy. In my case, my phone was thrown into a field to further prevent my attempts. I have a feeling this happens quite a bit.

Unless the victim and perp are using drugs which cause paranoia at the time, I can’t imagine a situation where someone tells me to power my phone off and I comply. I would be interested to know how many stops her phone/location stops for more than 5 mins at that morning and also what time the phone ceases to ping. I’m thinking I read it was 1 ish in the afternoon but I very well could be mixing up that with another case.

If the other stops have been searched without findings, it’s quite possible her phone is close to where she is. I am not familiar at all with the area but I agree that it was probably not well planned out in regards to getting rid of evidence and that she is probably in water unfortunately.

Always tugs at my heart when women go missing while expecting. Reminds me of Kelsie Schelling whom I keep praying gets justice soon.

All MOO.

One thing that her mother mentioned was that she left without her EBT card or any money. I’m not sure how she knows KC had no money at all but if she really left without any type of resources it does seem that she planned to meet someone and not make any type of purchases herself before returning home.

Most people wouldn’t take off without access to at least a small amount of money. Which could mean she either planned to come back home fairly quickly or depend on the person she was meeting to provide that type of support (if she truly planned to be gone for a while).

MOO
I recall reading that her mom confirmed she did not go to the grocers as she had told others because there was no activity on her benefits card and no transactions on her bank card. I did not understand this to mean that she left home without them.

The income standards for SNAP are the same in all 48 continguous states and the District of Columbia, and a fetus is not counted as an individual with regard to the assistance group size for SNAP. Alaska, Hawaii, and Guam have higher income standards.

One of the venues the BD's workplace provides services to is located in Point Defiance.

Yes, but it has been closed since March due to COVID.

True. But it also means the BD knows the area pretty well, that goes for other venues and parks etc.

I don’t have a link for that but read it in several different stories. That was in the very beginning. It could have been in one of her mothers interviews but it struck me at the time that someone of that age would leave home with no resources.

But again, mothers don’t always know exactly what’s going on and she might not have actually known if KC had cash.

How does one get from home, to the location of the car, to the location of the last phone ping? Boat from Ruston, freeways, how?

Vashon Island is accessible only from a ferry. The dock is located by the border of Point Defiance Park. IIRC the ping from Vashon was triangulated with other towers which is why searches were done at PDP.

Cantrell’s friends believe she was going to the grocery store the day she went missing, but there has been no activity on her EBT card.

Her cell phone also hasn’t been used since the day she disappeared.

It last pinged off a cell tower on Vashon Island, which promoted a two-day search for signs of Cantrell in Point Defiance Park.

What are you saying has been closed since March? The 5-mile drive, walking trails and Owens beach have been accessible for some time now.

COVID-19 Update: What's open, what's closed

The rental venues including The Pagoda, etc. have been closed since mid-March. We were specifically speaking about professional familiarity that POI may have had with Point Defiance. I am very aware of which parts of the park have been open and or accessible due to COVID-19. This has also been discussed earlier in the thread.

Theres a freeway running near her home that would also give her access to a main street (center street) that runs up through Tacoma. South Tacoma Way is the same thing. The get to the island she would need to take a ferry at Point Defiance.

Source - Local.

Phone was probably the last thing to be hidden - along the lines of wanting to know who has noticed this dead person in my care is missing.View attachment 263291

It would make sense to hide the cellphone before the abduction or murder. Its still not clear which it is yet thought its not looking good.

.."but she didn’t have any money on her and her EBT card has not been used."

Because in Tacoma rent sucks and buying a house sucks. $250,000 will get you roughly 750 sqaurefeet, a yard thats close to useless, on street parking, and in a bad area of town. Spending $1000-1200 on an apartment gets you roughly the same thing. It sucks because people will work north in Seattle and Renton with high paying jobs then drive to and from Tacoma daily where houses are cheaper.

The "EBT card" not being used thing - Did they find that? Is it possible she was abducted in the store parking lot before she even had a chance to get into the store?

Maybe someone who has heard of her employment status in the past can post about that.

One news site said she was currently unemployed. She has worked as a nanny at times. Someone posted her nanny profile that had been recently updated stating she was looking for work.

It is weird to me that they felt the need to use flash bangs, take his truck etc, but then when he disappeared they still didn’t arrest him. Seems like he could be a danger to himself or others. I hope they have found him and that they are keeping tabs so he doesn’t go after witnesses. (That poor neighbor was on tv!)

Tacoma PD over react or they heard about the "kidnap the baby and raise it to hate women" comment that the PoI supposedly said years ago, which he may have changed since then. The only source Ive found on that is KCs brother posting it.

dressed up (relative to her normal mode of appearance) to go to a special meet up, grocery was far from her mind at that point in time.

rsbm

I'm still reading through the pages, but I had wondered, with the Nanny Ads posted earlier in the thread, whether she dressed up for an interview or to give the impression of attending an interview for a job - particularly if there were negative thoughts to an ex etc. that family members had and Kassanndra didn't want to say where she was really going?

I'm confused. At this time, it seems that there's no confirmation that she was pregnant. Has that changed?

Her mother mentions a document (?) related to a test that she had at the clinic. Do doctors provide something in writing when a woman is pregnant?

"Troyer said however that investigators have not confirmed that the woman was pregnant although they have been told that was the case." (link)

"But there’s something else her mother believes she may have left the house with last Tuesday. “The very first test that she took when she went to the clinic, its missing…I can't think of why she needed it unless somebody asked her for it,” says Marie Smith" (link)

You are correct that LE has not told the public if they have confirmed her pregnancy since that briefing on 9/1(? About a week after she went missing). There have been no updates or briefings since that briefing from LE except the POI update the next day. However her family and friends all say she was pregnant. Based on their detailed accounts of multiple appointments and whatnot it should be easy to prove. I think it’s just that the LE wanted to clarify that they hadn’t confirmed it yet so LE should not be cited as the source for that info. JMO. Also in case you had not found this yet, the keys were in her abandoned car.
