Info from her mom about the last phone location is a bit confusing, but we know that the phone stopped working around 1PM on the day she was last seen by family - which eliminates an over night connection. She left the house around 8:45AM and the phone was at the park around 1:00PM (same day).

Her mother said that she did not go to the park, but she did go to the park to walk dogs. That doesn't make sense.

"The 33-year-old woman went missing Tuesday morning after she left her family's house in Parkland around 8:30 a.m.
...

Her mother says Cantrell’s cell phone last pinged off the south Vashon tower just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday before it was either turned off or died. Police told her the most logical location of the phone based off of the ping would be Point Defiance Park.

But her mother doesn’t believe she ever went to the park. Smith says her daughter would occasionally go to the park to walk her two Chihuahuas, but she left the dogs at home.

Other than to walk her dogs, she had no other reason to be in her park her mom says, and her car was found on the other end of town near the Tacoma Dome.

Her mom doesn’t believe Cantrell was ever there either. “That is not a place that she would ever be. It's just not, there’s no reason for her to be there. It’s not a safe area, she wouldn’t be there,” Smith said.

YES !! At the very beginning I thought that was very odd that mom said that the park was NOT a place she would ever be, "That is not a place that she would ever be. It's just not, there’s no reason for her to be there. It’s not a safe area, she wouldn’t be there,” Smith said.
But then said, she would go there to walk the dogs.
I let it slide by, thinking mom is obviously a mess, worrying about her pregnant daughter but have kept it in the back of my mind.
Might be nothing, might be something.
We don't know.

I would read that as she would never be there without the dogs. She didn't have the dogs with her, so she had no reason to be at that park the day she disappeared.

For what it’s worth, I assumed the mother’s comment about KC not being a place she would ever be was referring to where the car was found (“near the Tacoma Dome”), especially because of the word “either” in the article. Like, in addition to not likely going to the park without her dogs, KC also was unlikely to be in the area where her car was located.

When I found out I was pregnant, I used a traditional red dye test and a fancy new digital version. Both of them said I was pregnant.
I’m not super sentimental but I kept them on my bathroom counter for a few days.
They both eventually faded and the results ended up disappearing within probably 4 days. So the whole thing about her keeping an actual test seems off to me. JMO.

Your red dye test faded also? That’s weird. I still have my positive test from my five year old son and from the baby I lost before him, and they are both still glaringly positive. Maybe different brands will react differently, but I don’t find it strange that she would have kept it, especially if it were her first pregnancy. But then again I’m like ridiculously sentimental so I’m probably at an extreme end of the spectrum ;)

It was not the actual test... paperwork from the doctor

Yeah, this. Pinging in Vashon doesn’t mean Vashon. As a Tacoma native, I feel as though there’s no reason in paying money to go to Vashon island for a couple hours. There’s lots of cameras/security at ferry terminals. It’s mainly work commuting for people that live on that island.

This. I’m a lifelong area resident and have been to Vashon several times. Unless you know someone who lives there or you want to spend the weekend camping in a yurt, there’s really nothing to do on the island and it’s not worth shelling out ferry fare for just a few hours.

Thanks for the reassuring word, Ed Troyer!!

I was just about to post with excitement that we have the first MSM coverage of KC in over a week. Q13 on a family-organized search this weekend - based out of Point Defiance Park and canvassing businesses in the area for surveillance video.

Yeah, I thought Point Defiance Park was a beautiful place with numerous gardens, scenery, wildlife, hiking and biking trails, etc.

It was mentioned early on that the five mile inner loop had just recently opened again starting at 9:00 am. It sounds like the perfect place to go for a drive or a scenic walk and not be seen by anybody who would recognize them.

Maybe the boyfriend asked KC to meet him there so they could have a serious talk.

Whatever happened to her must have occurred before 1:00 pm, when the phone was turned off. The perp may have covered up the crime, left the park sometime after one and abandoned the car near the underpass.

Imo

In my opinion, she's on the island. At first, I thought he took her to the island but with @MsBetsy 's previous post, the idea of KC's ex asking her to meet him there would make it easier for him to do the crime and leave. I imagine he had this planned previously.

Good. The only news better then that would be if KC was found alive and well.

I appreciate his post on facebook but seems it should be an official statement on the Pierce County Sheriff's page. This is almost like a token response and I find that disappointing and also the fact that media has virtually dropped it and is doing nothing to keep it forefront in peoples mind. LE really needs to do better and this is MOO!!

Honestly new outlets report on things that will get them viewers/ratings and if there isn't anything new to report on a case they drop it. Not saying I like it but that's the way it works in the media. They have called this a homicide case without a body, that's not typically done by LE which makes me believe they have some pretty good evidence and are probably busy looking for more or building a case against someone or multiple people. I don't think this is a dead end and the case will go cold, I think it's just taking some time which makes sense given they haven't discovered her body.

I'm also wondering if LE is allowing certain persons of interest to keep going about their lives in hopes that they will slip up somehow and it will lead to more evidence...

And it's just that simple. LOL
I tend to over-think things, like comments made in my every day life.
Even work related--I tend to think into things to much when learning a new program or a new product.
I need to remember, sometimes things are just simple, no over-thought needed.
It sure would save me a lot of anxiety.
Thanks for the reminder :)

I don't think she's on Vashon Island.

My guess is she met him a) somewhere halfway between their homes, maybe Wapato Park where one of the a searches was conducted just after her disappearance. (However we don't have confirmation that search was related to this case.) b) at ex-BF's place.

Violence occurred (although hope this is not the case).

Then maybe off to Point Defiance Park in her car, disposal of body, shut off/disposal of phone. On the way back to his home, he leaves the car/with keys inside in a less than desirable area and either walks/runs/Uber's/gets a ride to wherever.

Vashon Island, as others have noted, requires a ferry ride to get over there, there are many cameras and the schedule runs roughly every 50min. They have live cameras so people can see how long the lines are.

WSDOT - Ferries - Schedule: Sailing Schedule for Pt Defiance / Tahlequah

WSDOT - Ferries - Cameras

PDP on the other hand, has many places (cup handles) to pull over and see the view. There are many areas along 5-mile drive where there are cliffs and thick vegetation. Also this area was searched by LE after her disappearance.

If I have time tomorrow, I can zip down to 25th and the 705 underpass (where the car was found) and see if I can spot any cameras. I suspect with the light-rail stop, gas station/car wash and plenty of business at the preceding intersections there's bound to be footage.

IMO

Just because she left home at a certain time does not indicate at all how long she expected her trip to take. Look at all the wooded areas in that part of the state. There are fairly remote parks or just simple picnic tables where they could’ve met and it would not have been Difficult to take her into the woods from there. It’s hard to find even a living person in dense words let alone someone who has died. She could be anywhere even though her car is nearby.

if this was premeditated murder it would have been planned carefully as to a place of death and a location of the body. If it was a spur of the moment event it would not be well thought out.

We simply don’t know which it was. And there’s always a possibility she is alive, remote but possible.
