WA WA - Leah Roberts, 23, Whatcom Co, 13 Mar 2000

I'm trying to catch up again on this case. There are so many dead links and the findleah.org web site is also long gone.

Yeah, the Internet tends to be pretty bad at archival. File hosts and websites go up and down. A lot of old threads here have linked photos that no longer work.

Fortunately, i did find an archived copy of the website online, from 2009. Find Missing Person Leah Roberts

I think that law enforcement should investigate the possibility that the disappearance of a young woman named Vera Izhevskiy is linked to Leah Roberts. Vera was a resident of Maple Falls, WA. That is near where Leah’s Jeep was found. Vera disappeared from Bellingham. Her body eventually found about 2 years later I think. Perhaps the person responsible for her disappearance had a connection to her in Maple Falls, was familiar with that area, or even lived there during the time of Leah’s disappearance. I think they should be looking for someone who held a number of residences all over the area. I also think that while Leah’s Jeep traveled to the Maple Falls area, Leah herself did not. My thought is that the person responsible for her disappearance took her somewhere closer to Bellingham - somewhere just off the Mt Baker Highway. I’d be checking criminal records showing a bunch of addresses in that area and/or with relatives or girlfriends also having addresses in the area. Then start looking into secluded areas between the Highway and those residences for remains. It’s quite possible that there’s areas that were secluded then, but not now because of more small acreage homes in the area. Because of the lengthy time period between Leah and Vera’s disappearances I think the perpetrator hid in plain sight in the area. He may even still live nearby, or has left and returned and left multiple times. Pretty sure he’s resided in a number of county jails in the area too....perhaps even in the Everett area and he’s responsible for the red herring attempt?

I wonder if that website is not up to date? A quick search shows at least a few other missing people from Bellingham with threads here on WS.
A search by county at NamUs shows nine missing women in Whatcom County including Leah. All are older cases than hers and, except for two who were 19 and 46, they were in their twenties when they went missing. I guess the more recent MPs have not yet been added to NamUs.

it's probably meaningless, but there is literary significance to April 23rd. A lot of it. It's the day Shakespeare was born and also the day he died. Easter is significant because of the Resurrection. On one documentary I've seen Roberts is reported to have said something like she felt "born again."

the disappearance of the cat - cheshire cat disappearing and reappearing.

there was a lot of "into the wild" stuff going on in the 90s. a literary minded person might have stumbled onto that story.

i have a feeling she's still alive and she planned the whole thing out with some dude from bellingham.

Hey, just started an account to ask a few questions about the case. Has anyone found the DNA test to be a match to one of the witnesses last seen with her (Leah R.) At the only sit down restaurant back then (The Elephant and Castle) or if they had security footage from the mall to see if she was following/followed by someone's car and could give a possible lead? Im sure they already reviewed it if they had it but I thought it was worth asking. Thanks for any response in advance!

The Whatcom Cty John Doe's NamUs has been taken down, and I know Leah was turned in, but I personally do not feel they are the same person.
