Still heartbroken they haven’t found this little man yet. The pain his family must be enduring.
Yes, it is heartbreaking indeed.
Outdoor searches are so very difficult. You can literally step over remains and not "see" them, as Mother Nature embraces and camouflages. If he isn't in the water and has been missed there, then searches should focus on those little hidey-holes where a child might tuck in against the elements, and then sadly perish. I'm glad that LE and the community have been supportive, b/c heaven knows the parents need it.

At least 100 people came together to honor Lucian Munguia's fifth birthday at Sarg Hubbard Park Wednesday night. Family friends and community members stood with the family and heard their cry for help.

[...]

"It was pretty emotional honestly to see the people here that weren't family but wanted to come out and be apart of it," said a family friend, Makayla Huckabee as tears run down her face.

[...]

Community members came early to drop a flower of hope into the Sarg Hubbard Park pond. With Lucian's love for water and his mom's love for flowers; it almost seemed like they were together as two sunflowers sparkled in the sun together.

My heart goes out to Lucian's family. This could happen in any family and is no one's fault. I'm so sorry he is still missing. Rooting for him to be found very very soon.

I really do wonder if someone seen him wandering around and just scooped him up.

Anything is possible, but I think he sadly ended up in water, or tucked himself away from the elements. Poor sweet child.

My heart breaks for family and community. It seems he was playing with brother and then out of sight for only minutes before he was discovered missing. I wonder what caused him to quickly wander away? I keep thinking he was familiar with the park and might have known where the areas of water are, or maybe he heard someone call his name? Hope he is found soon, alive and healthy.

This KXLY video is with Lucian's aunt and has video clips of Lucian playing, with the sound of his voice and laughter. It is from a week ago but I hadn't seen it.

It reminds me of another story, several years ago, when an autistic kid ran away from his dad in a park and disappeared. They found him, later, but it reminds me of how difficult looking for a child might be, and how much support poor families need.

People put together rally for Lucian, want update from police on search

[…]
Through today a small group has been rallying in front of the Yakima Police Department, and they're wanting an update to what police have done and are doing in the search.
[…]

"We don't want any evidence. We don't want them to release anything that would harm the case in any way," said rally organizer Liz Britton. "We just feel the community deserves to have clarification, and we believe that Lucian deserves to have clarification and people know what's going on."

In asking those questions to the Yakima Police Department, it seems they may not be getting many answers soon. Police say that there is no new update on the search, but that they are still investigating. They say they will only provide an update once they get any new information.

MISSING: Residents Push for Answers About 4-year-old Lucian Munguia, Who Mysteriously Vanished Weeks Ago

October 19, 2022

[…]

According to the Yakima Herald-Republic, residents in the area are pushing for more answers in the case. Five of the residents went to the Yakima Police Department on Monday morning and put signs up that read, “We need answers,” “Did you forget,” and “Justicia para Lucian.”

Yakima police spokesperson Yvette Inzunza said Monday that there has been no evidence of foul play and the investigation is ongoing, but the residents are reportedly concerned about the lack of updates in the case.

“We don’t need to see evidence, we just want an update,” Yakima resident Elizabeth Britton said. “This is about Lucian.” Another resident, Francisco Alfaro, said that without updates from investigators, rumors about the case have been spreading.
“Any information will help us understand where this is going,” he said. “Speculations are coming up because there’s no updates.… If YPD can clear up some of those, it would help a lot.”

The Seattle Times reports that last month, 20 Yakima officers, “three Yakima County sheriff’s deputies, two Washington State Patrol officers, and the Yakima Office of Emergency Management searched the park, using two drones and dogs.” The Air Force branch out of Spokane also helped search last month.

“I just want to assure the public that everything we can do, and the experts are asking us to do, we are doing,” Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray previously said. When authorities pulled back their search in late September, family members, including Lucian’s parents, Sandra and Juan Munguia, started leading search efforts. Police previously said the boy’s parents are being cooperative. No suspects have been named in Lucian’s disappearance.

"
'He loves to swim'

Lucian's love for the sea translates to other bodies of water, including pools, baths and even puddles.

"He loves to swim," Sandra said. "For a 4-year-old, he knows how to swim. He knows how to swim underwater and come up for breath."
